I'm really surprised by Bieber's performance. I thought it would debut #1 based off name power and curiosity and then fall hard due to lack of quality, but it ended up debuting disappointingly but after a few days its still holding up well

Incidentally checking the US numbers has alerted me that a second Arizona Zervas song ('FML') is already impacting there, already #110 and the fastest rising song in the top 200. I wondered if he'd be able to get a second hit, the answer already looks like yes. It's a song from 2018 not a new song so I presume it's just another one gaining traction on TikTok.

No idea if TikTok is what prompted it, but that song was added to Today's Top Hits a couple days ago. Between him, Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi ('Bruises'), Trevor Daniel, Doja Cat ('Candy'), Billie Eilish ('ocean eyes' and 'idontwannabeyouanymore' getting on TTH in 2018) and potentially Dermot Kennedy, year-old songs becoming hits even though the artists have newer material seems to be the new thing :lol:

'ocean eyes' has already been a hit, not sure why they'd push it now unless it got some kind of second (third?) wind organically. It's a pretty ancient song at this point that's barely recognisable as a Billie Eilish song under what her image/sound developed into.

 

edit: I didn't realise the song was actually back in the top 100 right now, I thought Rush was just referring to when it initially charted, by which point it was already years old - I guess it has already had that organic third wind then. Still, I think it'd be weird and a waste of resources for them to try and actively re-promote such an old song that is already pretty well-known now and so different to her actual current material. It'll still continue racking up pretty decent streams regardless.

Ah, very similar to a formula I started keeping for my own curiosity in a spreadsheet in 2018 (and forgot to update after September 2019 oops) where I had gradually implemented ACR based on week-on-week decline percentages. I should probably update that at some point.

New posthumous track from Mac Miller out this week - he never had much chart success during his lifetime but I could see this one having at least some impact (there seems to be a consensus that his posthumous material is being handled in a much more respectful/less exploitative manner than some other recent posthumous releases).
