No Britons in the French Open men's singles second round after defeats for Cameron Norrie and Liam Broady on Monday.

Andy Murray and Dan Evans had already made first-round exits on Sunday.

Norrie had his chances in a 4-6 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 defeat by Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan, while Broady gave a good account of himself against Jiri Vesely.

Broady, in his first appearance in the Roland Garros main draw, lost 6-2 5-7 6-3 6-2 to the Czech.

Heather Watson was unable to prolong British interest in the French Open singles after losing her first-round match to France's Fiona Ferro.

Watson, 28, was the final Briton in the draws after five of her compatriots were beaten on the opening two days.

But the world number 56 lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to Ferro, who is ranked seven places higher in the world.

Watson's defeat means she has lost six straight matches since the professional game returned in early August.

Serena Williams has withdrawn from the French Open because of an Achilles injury.

The 39-year-old had been scheduled to play her second-round match against Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova on Wednesday.

The US Open winner Dominic Thiem loses a five hour marathon match to Diego Schwartzman in the quarter finals.

The floodlights and the roof they now have on one court at Roland Garros have been a great help in keeping the schedule up to date.

Good they had the roof, who knew the weather was so miserable in Paris in early October

Nadal-Djokovic in the final, not sure if that's what I expected... I really thought Schwarzman would play better and at least make it more difficult to Nadal... Novak has been playing really bad but everybody seems to be nervous when they play against him...

the women's tournament has been very disappointing, with the favourites all failing, especially Halep

The Women's side is completely true to form once again, someone I've never heard of winning the whole thing
Only 19 years old and didn't lose a set in her 7 matches. Very impressive but it's a pity Kenin's injury prevented her from competing properly in the second set.

Isn't that what's great about the women's game with the unpredictability of who wins the Grand Slam.

And now drawing level with Fed on 20! Still think when they have all retired Djok will be on top. Nadal has the French in the bag but Djok has the other 3 for the next foreseeable few years. Can't see Fed winning another unfortunately.

The fact it was yet another final between Nadal & Djok shows that the only way anyone else is winning a Slam is if any of the top 3 don't compete or smack linespeople in the neck.

so impressed with Nadal, never seen him playing so well, the last 2 games, against Shwarzman and Djokovic were unreal

Kenin should have won, she's much better, pity about her injury... that girl that won, she wasn't bad, but for instance in the semis

she was making crazy errors, she only won cos she was playing with the 150th in the world or something... the unpredictability of women's tennis is not good, cos it comes with bad tennis, it's just who's making less errors, not who's making more winners... you cannot compare the quality of the men's final this year with Nadal-Novak vs. the quality of the women's final with that 19 year old and Kenin... and same with the Quarterfinals and semifinals...

It certainly was a great performance from Nadal. We have been privileged to watch players like Djokovic, Federer, Nadal over the years not forgetting Andy Murray.

World number one Novak Djokovic beat Borna Coric to reach the Vienna Open quarter-finals and all but secure the year-end top ranking.

Australian Open champion Djokovic beat Croatia's Coric 7-6 (13-11) 6-3 to reach the last eight in Bulgaria.

Djokovic could only be passed by Rafael Nadal, who would need to take a wildcard into next month's Sofia event to try and overhaul him.

However, if he wins the title in Vienna on Sunday, he cannot be overtaken.

Djokovic will play either Lorenzo Sonego of Italy or Poland's Herbert Hurcakz next.

Russian debutant Andrey Rublev earned his first ATP Finals victory in a dead rubber against Austrian third seed Dominic Thiem, who was already assured of his place in the semi-finals.

US Open champion Thiem, 27, could not recover from a slow start as Rublev won 6-2 7-5 at the O2 Arena in London.

Thiem reached the last four by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal.

Tsitsipas and Nadal meet in a straight fight for the other spot from Group London 2020 at 20:00 GMT on Thursday.

I've been watching some of that tournament. There have been some high quality matches. This is the 12th and final year at the 02. It's been a great venue but it had to move on one day and Turin will host it next year.

Novak Djokovic moved past Alexander Zverev in straight sets to reach the last four of the ATP Finals.

The Serb world number one beat German Zverev 6-3 7-6 (7-4) at the O2 Arena in London.

Djokovic, seeking a record-equalling sixth title at the end-of-season tournament, was pushed much more in the second set but raised his level at the crucial time in the tie-break.
