Posted November 16, 200618 yr I mean think about it - boy bands release the same old tired generic ballads over & over again and are adored by legions of drugged up girls and OAPs across the country because they like 'hot'. Girl bands IMHO are MUCH better - all of them right down from All Saints to Spice Girls to Bananarama, Clea, Girls Aloud the lot. But why is it much harder for them to be successful. Here in the UK Girls Aloud, Sugababes & All Saints struggle for a top 3 with every release yet $h!t like McFly & Westlife can get to the top of the chart 90% of the time with any massacred cover or $h!t attempt to be Queen song they release. Girl Bands used to be big in the 1996-1998 era with Spice Girls, B*Witched & All Saints all having numerous chart toppers but why has the momentum worn off in recent years - it can't all be down to the slide in pop music as like I say - Westlife & McFly continue to do well. Whats Better :smoke: Sales say otherwise :P The only boy band songs I have a soft spot for are Stay Another Day If You Come Back Back For Good And the 3 big Backstreet Boy ballads. :P I have never ever bought a single or an album by a boyband except Busted - I adored them :( :lol:
November 16, 200618 yr i read that its an actual psychological condition the way girls react to a boy band :wacko: when boybands start out their aim is to target girls that don't have boyfriends yet cause the girls imagine their favourite boy band member is their first for now until they grow up and get a real one, boy bands are cashing in on this specific mental state it has very little to do with the music <_<

November 16, 200618 yr ...because it's not the music. It's all the little girls whose hormones rise at what they call fanciable boys. Just beacuse they fancy them, they'll by any old rubbish. Not to say that most of the girls in girlbands are not good looking. The fact is that guys prefer to buy their music rather just because they fancy them. Most of them are not Girlbands or Boybands. The true meaning of a band is that they play instruments. So most of them are Girl or boy GROUPS.

In the end, woman and gay men usually prefer pop music, while straight males usually prefer rock, alternative, trance, etc. So it´s not like a straight male will buy albums of sugababes and girls aloud just because they look hot.

November 17, 200618 yr If a teenage boy fancies a member of a girlband he might have a poster of his favourite up on his bedroom wall and buy a couple of singles (maybe). But is he likely to stand outside in freezing weather for hours on end waiting for his favourite to emerge from a hotel? Probably not. Is he likely to go to bed with photo of said 'hotty' under his pillow fantasising that she is his girlfriend? Probably not. Is he likely to need counselling when girlband decides to split up? Probably not. In general, teenage boys 'lust'. In general, teenage (and pre-teenage) girls 'love'. And 'love', not 'lust' is what leads to obsession. These girls are convinced the person in the boyband is their true love and that they are going to marry him. They probably practise signing their name as 'Mrs Whatever'. And Obsession means one thing- 'Record Sales!'. An obsessed teenage girl will buy everything that boyband releases. Maybe even several copies. The music is probably secondary. And the marketing men know that. That's why the Managers of Boybands always try to hide the fact that some members may have girlfriends or may be gay (at least initially). Because the teenage girls need to believe they are 'in with a chance'. So boybands will always have much more fanatical fans than girlbands. And fanatical fans = record sales. ^_^

In the end, woman and gay men usually prefer pop music, while straight males usually prefer rock, alternative, trance, etc. So it´s not like a straight male will buy albums of sugababes and girls aloud just because they look hot. however its different now to that of years and years ago in the start of the 21st C when boybands rules the charts totally. now we have the cult of the gulity pleasure which has seen the backstreet boys, nsync selected as one of the 250 songs you must own by kerrang!. so random girl bands can play big indie rock fests and indie kids can buy and like girls aloud records (but not the covers obv.)
