Jackson's 250k demands for awards gig

Michael Jackson cost the World Music Awards £250,000 in perks and luxuries.

The star's demands for his appearance at the Earls Court ceremony included special provisions for hair and make-up, a private jet and the demolition of a wall between two hotel rooms.

Organisers of the Wednesday night event also had to hire out the whole of the five-star Hempel Hotel, near Hyde Park, costing an estimated £50,000 a night, while police were forced to protect the site from hundreds of gathered fans.

"He's got one of the most expensive riders in history," a source revealed to the Daily Mirror. "Loads of other hotels, including the Mandarin Oriental, turned him down because they were worried about being besieged by fans. They were also nervous about his demands."

The paper also reports that Jackson had a wall between two suites removed to create a playroom for his children. "Yes, it's eccentric but he wants to create a homely environment for them," added the source. "He's going to be on stage with about 30 children.

"He was going to perform the Earth Song but changed his mind because of the Jarvis Cocker debacle at the Brits a few years back."

The singer did give a good deal in one area, however. "Stars backstage have demanded £20,000 of foie gras, sushi, very nice red and white wine and the finest champagne," said an insider. "But Jacko wants KFC.

"He got flunkies to go there the other day and was impressed they got his huge order within three minutes, so he wants some fried chicken again."
