March 1, 20241 yr But the Tories don't claim to be wolves at all. They claim to be a non racist party, caring about levelling up and making the country more equal, they spun the line about how the hardest of Brexits would bring untold riches to the country. And most shameful of all is that they claim to be strong and stable on the economy whereas the vast majority are worse off financially and the debt is sky high. And under Boris Johnson, a large proportion of the population actually believed him! But they traditionally stand for the business/landlordism/capitalism then the centrist future leaders pretend to stand for slogans like you state above to get the middle ground needed to win FPTP elections. Same with Labour.
March 1, 20241 yr You could replace Galloways name for many other politicans there Rooney. Your missing the point of this protest vote in this by election! Just seen Sunak had an emergency speech to the nation outside Downing Street now as well 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this couldn’t have went any better lmao! It's shocking!! A pro Palestine mp gets elected and Richi Rich decires attacks on democracy!! A quick reminder thst the last two elections have been VERY dosgy, andthe Tories brought in voter id to disenfranchise the poor!!! f***in tosspots. They are the ones attackin democracy, not pepple marching for peace.

Just seen Sunak had an emergency speech to the nation outside Downing Street now as well 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this couldn’t have went any better lmao! Not sure I agree there Steve. Sure there are a lot of career based politicans parachuted in, but you actually have a large number of politicians who do serve their constituencies and people really well. Galloway is someone who genuinely only cares about himself, getting a piece of the gravy train and changing his opinion based on whatever the anti-Western agenda is. That's a really lazy argument. Not sure it was a protest vote, I think it was political ignornance about what type of person Galloway is and what he really stands for.
March 1, 20241 yr Yeah, Sunak's speech did have the strong smell of 'Let's make sure everyone knows how absolutely not rattled I am by doing some wordcount blustering, I can appear statesman-like like this'. Hopefully a soft launch for a shock general after the budget, I say, wishfully thinking that Sunak has seen that Labour can be vulnerable to Gaza and wants to bang out an election while there is still fighting. Definitely not great for making it appear harmonious and we're in for some unfortunate stories about shutting down protests I think. Galloway again had some good lines '"We're talking about little Rishi Sunak at the f*g end of his prime ministership...." , he's doing exactly what I expected him to do, riling up the establishment politicians and they are responding to him like unsuspecting rubes respond to an internet troll. I wish he wasn't a social conservative with ties to foreign governments because the left really needs someone with his tenacity and electoral-winning skills, but more a Tony Benn figure who isn't liable to start stoking up division for their own personal gain.
March 1, 20241 yr I’m not arguing about Galloway as a person you are doing that simply because you disagree with his views that’s all. I think it’s pretty disrespectful to the electorate to basically call them to unintelligent to understand what he was on the ticket as, I think you will find they are a lot better informed than you think. This is the reason they voted for him and not Reform for example. They are very well informed to see how the two main parties in parliament are tip toeing around this issue for their own party political reasons and as usual are on the wrong side of history on the major issues.
March 1, 20241 yr Author Edit - the 'Sunak and Starmer being two cheeks of the same arse' is a great line to be absolutely fair to him. And Galloway is what comes between them. He is an awful human being - an anti-semitic, homophobic bigot.

Yes but Steve, you're saying it's OK for him to have a platform just because you like his policies. Everyone in this thread would be rightly outraged if Lawrence Fox, Nick Griffin, Tommy Robinson etc. got elected. A large part of the Rochdale electorate voted for him because he fed in to their fears. Like all these other people, he profits from these issues and tops up his pension very nicely. He's going to do absolutely nothing for the electorate on local issues except pick up a pay check and make himself look good. The guy is an arsehole, dived Bradford even further in 2012. It's alright though as he's left-wing and he might insult Sunak or Starmer once or twice. Can't wait until he starts telling us all Putin isn't all that bad next.
March 1, 20241 yr But I don’t agree with ALL his policies, it’s FPTP that’s the problem and that’s highlighted perfectly in this thread. You have to hold your nose and votes for the least worst option. I agree with his views on Gaza but I disagree with his views on trans woman for example. What ‘fears’ did he feed into exactly - again centrist talk down to the voters like they are idiots when the candidate they don’t like wins. And there in lies the biggest problem - same with brexit. People knew exactly what he stood for in the most important issue over the past few months - the Gaza crisis and that what got him elected because he means what he says and says what he means. Something the two biggest parties don’t know how to do because of the triangulation game they have to play. Moving onto your slur about him topping his pension up - the guys 70 to he could easily have retired a decade ago but hasn’t which maybe says more for his passion on the subjects. The least worst option is not turning up, spoiling your ballet or voting for one of the indepedents either as a joke or campaigning for local issues. The guy is a massive anti-semite, hates Jews and his solution to the Gaza problem would be to destory Israel. But that's alright hey, as he can shout a lot and has radical left wing views? I genuinely cannot believe some of the rubbish in this thread from people's views I generally respect, even if I disagree with some of them. People have warped themselves to thinking the biggest issue is the Gaza war and what the country cares about the most, nope it isn't. This is a man who has duped Muslim voters to thinking he cares about them, he says what people want to hear. Yet he supports regimes and dictators who have killed far more Muslims than Israel has. He's jumped om the bandwagon for his own ends. I would have thought an intelligent bloke such as yourself could clearly see this!

We are usually POLAR opposites, but it seems we have found an issuewhere we are both 100% on the same page: George Galloway. 100% agreed with everythinf you ssid. If I were there ans had rhe MISFORTUNE of this pos running vs an outrageous Labour candidate , I'd spoil the ballot with a write-in votr for the Senator from Vermont.
March 2, 20241 yr The hilarious thing is that he already has the Tories, who have been systematiclaly detsroying democracy, bleeting on about "radicals" desteoying democracy. The irony!

But clearly the biggest issue in Rochdale was Gaza in this by election. You say he wants to destroy Isreal and yet the majority of politicans in Westminster sit back while the Israeli government has unleashed atrocities in Gaza and what the Courts of Justice have described as genocide.
March 2, 20241 yr I knew he was an anti semite, but didn't know he was homophobic too! Definitely has socially conservative views on family. Said some anti trans things.

Yeah you say you don't like him, but it's this type of rhetoric that gets extremeists platforms and in to power. He's a blatant anti-semite and is milimg the gravy train for his own personal cause. People are excusing his well documented personal views & beliefs because they support some of their policies & they like what he has to hear. Maybe the biggest issue in Rochdale was the Gaza situation? I'm not sure it was absed on what I have read yesterday in some of the analysis pieces. Of course it was an issue, but like I said, this is also a man who supported Saddam Hussein and Assad. Let's be real, he's going to be booted out in the next GE, just like he always is, which highlights the skills of his political nous.
March 2, 20241 yr Author Definitely has socially conservative views on family. Said some anti trans things. Unless it affects him. He has been married four times.
March 2, 20241 yr Oh a lot of straight "religious" people think marrying amd sleeping with several women is fine but if you fancy someone of the same sex then it's a travesty. I was slightly in favour of his being elected but we don't need more homophobes in the HoC. Waay to many already.
March 2, 20241 yr Galloway must be feeling like a cat who's got the cream right now (see what I did there?) Pretty horrific that he has BNP backing and has refused to disown their support. This whole thing is giving me nightmares that somebody like Ann Widdecombe to find her way back to frontline politics.

I can imagine you reading the type of things which may highlight the issues of the day in working class Rochdale. Anything which proposes nationalisation of minor industries is an extremist to most establishmentarians which is why throughout the thread the centrists have been undermining him by not talking about Gaza but by slurs against him. Which is fine some things he’s said have been wrong and that’s politics. Edited March 2, 20241 yr by Steve201
