There's a couple of things I don't get... Yes, I've read on various sites fans saying they won't buy the single because there are no Bsides. Sorry, but I don't get that reasoning just because that even though we've had bsides on the other singles, most people usually downloaded the bside off the net waaaay before the actual single release so what exactly motivated them to buy the single then and not now ?!

I also don't get why they've put 3 remixes of Never Touch That Switch and 3 remixes of She's Madonna. I'm not a big fan of remixes to begin with but even to the people that do like them, I think one of each would be more than enough. He's got so many songs, surely one of them is good enough to release as a bside. I get a feeling that he just can't be bothered and if that is the case then I'd rather not have anymore songs released. Sin charted, I think at number 22. I'd be shocked if She's Madonna charted the same or even at 20. He's really giving the press all the ammunition they need

Not surprising at all that the song is doing better outside the UK, the way the attitude is toward him in England at the moment, I don't think he'd do well with any song, even one that's a total masterpiece.

Regarding Bongo, wasn't that to be released in France ??? And he's said various times that Bongo was a song he'd heard a few years back and really liked it and wanted to cover it because he thought it was a very Robbie song. Just like all the covers on the album, he only recorded them because its the songs he's personally loved and not part of some master plan.

Its at number 10 ( from 13 last week ) in The Euro Airplay Hot 100, so it looks like the other european countries like it.

EMI are total S**T though with this no promotion thing -.

There is now talk of a new Swing Album being released in the Summer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - hope they do more TV advertising this time & keep away from setting up too many stupid & unnecessary websites ( not everyone has a PC capable of downloading ) - they need to gat a grip on reality.

Whoever runs EMI needs firing -_-

They need to get someone like Simon Cowell in charge, now he's a man (Like him or not) who knows how to sell albums. <_<

And where did you hear about Swing being released in the Summer? That's an awful idea yet again imo. Robbie needs to take a break and stop constantly releasing albums so soon after the previous one. People are obviously getting tired of him, especially in the UK as they would with any act for that matter.

Swing has been done by him already and since than has been done to death by so many others. It is an awful idea and would make it look as though he is doing a bunch of covers just to sell, when infact it's because of stupid EMI haveing him contracted to do so.

New swing album for Robbie this summer

Robbie Williams is to release a new swing album by the end of the summer.

Executives at the singer's record label EMI are worried after his recent Rudebox album failed to live up to expectations and divided fans. They hope that the new album will turn around Robbie's fortunes and help him to win back his reputation.

A source told the Daily Star: "Rudebox has failed to match the sales of any of Robbie's previous albums and a lot of people are very worried. There's a swing album in the can and the top brass want it in the shops as soon as possible.

"Staff at the label have a lot of affection for Rudebox. But the public hasn't. Everyone's confident that another collection of swing songs will re-connect him to his fanbase

I PERSONALLY DONT FEEL THAT EVERYONE IS TIRED OF RW AT THE MOMENT - YEAH SURE IT WAS TOO MUCH RELEASING AN ALBUM AT THE SAME TIME THAT HE WAS ON A WORLD TOUR . THE BIG ERROR WAS THE RELEASE DATE & ALSO RELEASING RUDEBOX AS A SINGLE AS IT PUT EVERYONE OFF THE ACTUAL ALBUM.

I DO FEEL THAT A SWING ALBUM SHOULD NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL AT LEAST CHRISTMAS BUT I THINK THAT BOTH EMI & ROBBIES MANAGEMENT HAVE GOT LOST SOMEWHERE IN THE FOG & DONT LISTEN TO ANYONE ANYMORE . I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT THEY DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT S**T OF HIS CAREER.

Rob has said it himself in various interviews last year, that there will be a Swing album out this year so no surprise there. And the way I understood him there will also be an original album out. The way he said it, there will be lots out this year, now whether he's changed his mind on that or not who knows but he did say there will be too much.

I just hope he'll do something like the RAH one off with the swing album :cheer:

Yes, but then he said he needs to take a break for a long time in a later interview. :(

I'm one of those people who said lack of b-sides would make me think twice about buying all versions of the single. I will definitely buy at least one though -and probably all 3 anyway. It depends on actual tracklisting, as there are conflicting versions. If CD1 just has a radio edit and instrumental, I wont bother - If it has NTTS remix, then I probably will. I love NTTS - though I did 'listen again' to that Pete Tong show, and was not impressed by the remix I heard there ^_^

I do like some remixes, but they can take a fair time to grow on me - I have listened to the Lovelight remix CD a fair bit recently, but would MUCH prefer some different bsides too.

I like to have a proper physical copy of songs I like -even if I have them on download beforehand. Those downloads just somehow don't feel 'mine'

Yeah - a download does not have the same effect as having a copy in your hand with the artwork, etc.

I just hope in future that they dont stop making CD's , that idea is out there already so I hope it dont come to pass. :(

I don't really know what to think of the idea of a new swing album. Part of me would like that, but in any case I think a summer release would be much too soon. I don't know get their logic of throwing out one record after another and thinking this will help EMI and Rob after the Rudebox fiasco, I tend to share Scotty's opinion. I'm afraid if they keep releasing stuff within such short periods of time, it will rather put people off, especially in the UK :(

  • 2 weeks later...
finally... getting some airplay.. i want this song to go top 10 at least... so damn radio stations- play it!
top 10 i will be surprised if it doesn't reach top 5 personally this is a fnatastic song and should reach #3 or more
It's hard to know really, he is not 'cool' or 'in' at the moment and has'nt been for the past year or so, so it would'nt suprise me if it did'nt go top 10. It is getting far more airplay than Rudebox and Lovelight combined, well here in Ireland anyway and quite a few other parts of Europe. But as far as the Uk goes, what with all this downloading taking over the chart it is difficult to know really. Most songs that are'nt even out yet are all in the top 20 on downloads alone, while She's Madonna is not even in the top 100 I don' think. His fans are not the type that would download the song when they already have it. And the fact that their is no B-side on the phsical single is completelly off-putting. -_-

1. Unklejam, Love Ya

(Virgin)

For all that Britain clutched OutKast to its beating bosom, no one (bar Big Brovaz's common-or-kindergarten version) has really tried to emulate their sound. From the falsetto screech to the hook's incitement to 'shake it', new trio Unklejam could scarcely be more open about their debt if they stuck Andre 3000's name on the end of their debut single, a blatant nod to 'Hey Ya!'. But though their ideas may be slightly second-hand, they're worth another airing, and the frenetic percussion, dramatic stabs and androgyny make this as infectious a slice of electro-funk as Prince hasn't made in a while.

2. Randy Newman, A Few Words in Defense of Our Country

(exclusive through iTunes)

One by one, the grandees of American song have taken a stand against the Bush administration: Springsteen, Neil Young, even Tom Waits. And now the inimitable Newman, who leafs through history for reassurance that the past has seen worse. King Leopold of Belgium, Hitler, Stalin all get namechecked. 'The Spanish Inquisition put people in a terrible position, I don't even like to think about it,' he sings, then deadpans: 'Sometimes I like to think about it.' Who else could get away with that? Incidentally, he's had 17 Oscar nominations, but won only once. Good luck at the Academy Awards next week, but really, it's a medal he deserves.

3. The Twang, Wide Awake

(B-Unique)

The Twang are hardly the first bunch of closely-cropped, Stone Island-wearing geezers to be saddled with the 'new Oasis' tag. On the strength of the aptly titled 'Wide Awake', however, they appear to have the tunes to match the fuss surrounding them. With a fusillade of chiming guitars, infectious, early Happy Mondays-like grooves and menacing, spat-out vocals courtesy of swaggering frontman Phil Etheridge, this debut single might be in thrall to 40-odd years of modish British beat groups, but it has a distinctive, belligerent charm all of its own. What the world is waiting for? Rubbish name aside, they could be.

4. Robbie Williams, She's Madonna

(EMI)

So hysterical was the chorus of hostility that greeted Rudebox that it might almost have been a dry-run for the persecution of Jade Goody. In fact, Rudebox is Williams's best album - the first one he's ever made that feels like the work of someone who actually likes music - and this Pet Shop Boys collaboration is the perfect introduction to it. Dumping a less favoured suitor in the wake of a better offer from the Material Girl herself - 'I love you baby, but face it, she's Madonna' - Robbie (in his dreams, at least) achieves the perfect blend of deference and braggadocio. Shame about the transvestite-themed video, though.

5. Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit, The Epic Tale of Tom and Sue

(Young and Lost Club)

There is a rare alchemy to Johnny Flynn's debut single. A playful wisp of a record that is plucked out on an acoustic guitar and loosely entwined with bluegrass fiddle, its stripped simplicity means it could easily be taken from a brittle old-time shellac. Flynn, an abundantly creative 23-year-old Shakespearean actor, has shaped a sef-penned poem into a two-part tale that unfolds with pastoral simplicity. 'I'm rosy as a flushed red apple skin/Except I've never been as sweet,' he sings blithely on 'Tickle Me Pink'. This first track is a sing-song treat that is illuminated by a sense of naive wonder and spooky fatalism.

Unfortunately Rob is not flavour of the month at the moment in the UK or Ireland for that matter, but he is doing a lot better in the rest of Europe.

It aint gonna do well in the UK charts or in Irish Charts - It looks like anything to do with Rudebox has been condemned to death - its their loss really - what a waste of a great album & EMI need a kicking,

I would dearly love to see the release of The Actor as a single ---- I adore that song & I think it would do really well - it has a terrific catchy beat to it.

You know what else - every time I hear the track ' Better Man ' - maybe its just melancholy at the moment but it is one of the best songs ever... I love it & wish Rob would sing it more often live........ I dont think that he appreciates or even realises the quality of some of the songs that he has written...No Regrets - another fantastic song.....
