This one has been doing well in the US for weeks already, but its sudden high entry here seems to be because of its music video release - although weirdly that doesn't seem to have given it much of a boost at all in the US (only up 2 places to #50 today).

'Blinding Lights' has overtaken 'The Box' to #2 on Apple Music now. His new song 'After Hours' at #64 thus far.

 

Most of the BRITs songs I highlighted earlier haven't risen significantly since that update but 'Falling' has risen further to #30 and Dave's songs have continued rising a fair bit too ('Black' now at #43 and he's up to #23 with 'Location', #62 with 'Streatham', #68 with 'Professor X', #69 with 'Disaster', #86 with 'Funky Friday' and entered the top 100 at #95 with 'Psycho').

 

Probably expect a few top 200 entries / re-entries on Spotify tomorrow for Pop Smoke as well after his untimely death today. He has 5 songs top 200 on Apple Music so far ('Dior' #48, 'Shake The Room' feat. Quavo #58, 'Welcome To The Party' #118, 'Invincible' #168 and 'GATTI' w/ JACKBOYS/Travis Scott #190). Idk why 'Dior' is his highest as it was basically just a much inferior clone of 'Welcome To The Party' which I thought was his most popular song (and probably his best, not that I'm a huge fan but that and 'GATTI' are kind of bangers x) but apparently not.

 

edit: seems 'Dior' is his most streamed song on Spotify as well (probably helped by the fact it's included on both of his mixtapes) although 'Welcome To The Party' is very close behind when combined with its remixes with Nicki Minaj and Skepta.

It's not exactly his most streaming friendly song to be fair, it's hard to imagine it slotting in well in playlists or being a song that people would want to listen to on repeat. Only got to #56 on the weekly Spotify chart the week it came out and #22 (with a daily peak of #15) when his album came out. I wasn't really expecting it to be even his second highest song.

I actually agree with this, it was undoubtedly the most powerful performance of the evening so I was expecting a much bigger effect for it too.

I mean yes it was a great performance, I just don't think it's one that will drive many people to put the song on heavy rotation when they clearly never have before (if anything it's more likely to drive people to listen to the whole album like Rich said, which helps all his other songs as much as 'Black' itself!), it just doesn't have the replay value of his more radio-friendly / 'poppy' songs like 'Location' and 'Funky Friday' (and 'Thiago Silva' to use a similar example where one of his songs did actually become a major streaming hit after a viral live performance). Looking at some YouTube stats for example, it has 500k fewer views than 'Professor X' but nearly twice as many likes, indicates that people do like the song a lot but it's not something that they repeatedly come back to which isn't going to make it a huge streaming hit (as we already know it wasn't by his standards). Besides, didn't we establish the other day that the BRITs didn't really impact streaming that much last year? I don't think it being boosted from basically negligible streams to top 40 on Apple Music (#34 now) is insubstantial. I'm pretty sure it's got back as high if not higher than it ever got on iTunes before as well.

 

I really hope the song can make a return to the top 40 but it'll be too late for this week and have a feeling that its streaming isn't going to hold up enough for it to make it next week.

Also new entries for Pop Smoke with Dior at #40 and After Hours for The Weeknd at #20 (which is a lot higher than I was expecting with no NMF or anything)

Fab to see 'Black' top 40 on Spotify too <3 interesting it's actually higher than Harry Styles on Spotify when it's behind on Apple (which is usually a better platform for Dave).

 

'Blinding Lights' overtaking 'The Box' to #2 today but Billie has expanded her lead a decent amount (76k ahead).
