One of the reasons that 1979-1983 was the golden era for chart music is that songs like this and 'O Superman' by Laurie Anderson which featured in the last semi could get as high as number 2. Although it's a minute shorter than the album version,it's still almost six minutes long. There is no chorus,the lyrics are spoken rather than sung,the last three minutes are instrumental only and the whole thing is very quiet and delicate. It gave Dire Straits their highest chart position which they repeated in 1986 with 'Walk Of Life'

Every time it was on Top of the Pops, they cut it short as soon as the instrumental part started which made it sound totally incomplete :(
