April 5, 20205 yr Author Came 1st in 2019 and topped semi-final 2. While it only came 3rd in the jury vote it was only 10 points lower than first place - North Macedonia. It came second in the televote. Among jurors in the final, it only took 12 points from 6 countries - France, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Sweden. The same as North Macedonia but 4 fewer than Sweden. A favourite throughout the 2019 season it's appeal was spread evenly across juries and televoters resulting in their first victory in 44 years. April 5, 20205 yr Author Came 2nd in 2016 and topped semi-final 2 with a 43 point margin. It was the runaway jury winner in the final finishing 109 points ahead of second place, which looked like an insurmountable margin to overcome, for many people. Alas, as we know it didn't come to pass and came in 4th in the televote only taking 12s from 3 countries - Albania, Malta, Sweden. It did better with the jury, but not as outstanding as its final score would suggest - taking 12s from 9 countries, 2 fewer than Ukraine. This is a fan favourite and its loss to Ukraine has been the source of ongoing discussion since that night. Edited April 5, 20205 yr by Colm
April 5, 20205 yr Author Won in 2018, topped semi-final 1 and won the televote in the final. Toy has been quite divisive since its win, often being seen as a novelty song featuring chicken noises. It's easy to see why. It doesn't stop the second verse being genius. Netta is a star.
April 5, 20205 yr Author Came 2nd in 2012 and topped semi-final 1. Notably only for coming second to one of the most popular winners of all time - it only received one 12, from Belarus but received points from all but one country - Switzerland.
April 5, 20205 yr Author Won in 2010 which disproved a few theories. Firstly, that one of the Big 4 (or 5) could not win because it wouldn't have had the exposure of being in a semi-final. Secondly, that the staging needs to be spectacular. Lena just sang a great song in a black dress and did it well. She got 12s from nine countries - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. This is the only winner of a Big 4 (5) since the turn of the century and only Germany's second ever win after a 28 year wait. Edited April 5, 20205 yr by Colm
April 5, 20205 yr Author So, we've lost four winners, meaning we have six left. Meaning we have 4 non-winners in the Top 10! :o
April 5, 20205 yr the non winners being who? Il Volo, Kristian Kostov, Common Linnets and Polina Gagarina? Edited April 5, 20205 yr by diva thin muffin
April 5, 20205 yr Author We'll have to wait and see. Any shocks so far? As shocking as this thread could possibly be.....
April 5, 20205 yr Enjoying this Colm. To answer your Q, it's hard to say, as some contests were close and some weren't. 2015 for instance has 3 in the top 10 and it was very top-heavy on scores, so it's no surprise to see them all in the top 10. Really like "Satellite", that whole top 3 in 2010 was a great start to the decade!
April 5, 20205 yr We'll have to wait and see. Any shocks so far? As shocking as this thread could possibly be..... I'm very surprised that Conchita is in the top 10 as I didn't remember her win being so massive. Also surprised Toy isn't in the top 10 and maybe would have even expected Fuego to be there too but certainly not outside the top 20.
April 5, 20205 yr Author We certainly have pre-conceptions to what were big winners and what weren't. I didn't think Hold Me would be higher than Running Scared. Edited April 5, 20205 yr by Colm

April 7, 20205 yr Petition to get Bré banned for treason Says the person who ranked Jemini ahead of zalagasper
April 7, 20205 yr Says the person who ranked Jemini ahead of zalagasper "Sebi" was boring and overrated and it literally goes nowhere and zalagasper were entitled, ungrateful and incredibly rude in Tel Aviv. I have no regrets in ranking it below a trashy so-bad-it's-good bop :D
April 7, 20205 yr Author Why does a song have to GO SOMEWHERE? Sebi is among my all time favourite Eurovision songs. You either get it or you don't so I can see why people think it's boring. Edited April 7, 20205 yr by Colm
