November 22, 200618 yr Comparing Leona with Christina and Mariah is like comparing school dinners with Gordon Ramsay -_- She is a wanabee with a reasonable to good voice but she is light years behind Christina, Mariah, Kelly, Shakira etc, she has POTENTIAL and thats it Totally mate. Leona is Karaoke Mariah.... She shouldn't even be on that list, she's done absolutely nothing to prove that she can stand up to these other singers who have vastly more experience... I dont think you can even talk about her being a contender until she's released her third or fourth album...

Yes she has a good voice and all I do really like her, but she has no right to be up there when other huge names haven't been included. ^_^ I feel a poll edit coming on!

'X-Factor'/'Pop Idol winners and runners-up just seem to be fed into a meat grinder and then spat out when they've served their purpose (ie to make Walsh and Cowell more loot.... <_< )
November 22, 200618 yr If she does win she won't have any sort of long lasting career I don't think. Look at Brookstein, one #1 single, a complete flop of an album, simply because teenage girls didn't fancy him I think. Shayne is different though, everyone goes on about him being a flop, but his debut album is close to selling 500k, a #1 million selling single, and a #2 single selling over 200k, yes his third single flopped but because of one flop I would hardly say he's finished.

Those figures are good for an alternative or metal band who aint expected to sell loads, but NOT good for a manufactured act, the sole purpose of which is to shift units and make money for its corporate paymasters...

Erm i'm not sure about the album, I think it came out after No Promises, which was at the end of April, so early May perhaps? Which is like 6/7 months, I don't think 500k is that bad for a pop album, not many pop artists sell anything nowadays. :(
November 22, 200618 yr I think technically Leona's voice is just as good as Christina's and Mariah, but experience wise, obviously she would never compare to the others. She may not have proved herself with an album release but I think those X factor performances have proved that her voice is way better than "reasonable to good".

What I've seen only proves to me that she's good at impersonation. It's one thing to do a bunch of covers on a TV show, quite another to slog your guts out for your craft 24/7, have your own voice as an artist, tour the country out of a transit van and, it may sound cliche, but 'pay your dues'.... I would say Ben has done that (at least the first and last points anyway..), as for the rest of em.....
November 22, 200618 yr Other - Lucie Silvas. Amazing range, amazing tone, and more importantly, CONTROL of her voice. Anyone with a voice can hit a note, but its more important to know how to use your voice than to simply have one. And she does :)

Operatically trained vocalist, so control and knowing how to hit a note is an absolute given...
