The Futureheads have left their record label - but they say they're "over the moon" about it.

Frontman Barry Hyde has revealed that the group and the Warners-owned label 679 Recordings havfe parted company after two albums - 2004's self-titled debut and this year's 'News And Tributes'.

Hyde told BBC 6 Music: "I'm over the moon about it to be honest with you, 'cos I feel like we're free now. We weren't happy as a band on that label."

He continued: "It's good to get out of the shackles of being tied down to something. I think it's put us in a very strong position 'cos we're still a band that people like."

The label refused to comment when contacted by NME.COM today (November 20).

The band head out on a UK tour later this week, calling at:

Preston 53 Degrees (November 25)

Glasgow ABC (26)

Sheffield Leadmill (27)

Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall (29)

Warwick University (30)

Falmouth Princess Pavilion (December 1)

Portsmouth Pyramids (3)

Cambridge Junction (4)

London Astoria (5)

I dunno whether thats a good or bad thing personally.

But they seem happy that their label have dropped them so it must be a good thing from that perspective.

Apparently they were dropped because the follow up sold five times less than the debut. The debut was probably five times better though...if they can sign with Rough Trade or Domino or someone who'll take better care of them then I reckon they'll come back strong...otherwise it's goodbye.

sanctuary seem to be going down the indie route now what with charlatens and ctc so they could put them on another reactivated label of theres (if not their rough trade)?

Sanctuary are, as the name suggests, a haven for a band with a proven fanbase who'll buy anything they do.

Nah, Futureheads still have indie pedigree and can definitely come back strongly on one of the bigger indies. 679 was wrong for them cos it's still a major, albeit a subsidiary.

so that'll be sanctuary then

I don't think sanctuary is indie though. I mean independent, not some mucked about version of the word.
I can't see them going to Sanctuary - the company's on its last legs....

Their debut album was very average apart from their brilliant cover of 'Hounds Of Love.' :) I didn't even take any interest in buying their second album as the majority of the singles were fairly poor.

nah management company. was in mw last week. 20 years of big life. they had a record company called raw tv for that soup dragons band and then set up a joint label with universal but that folded in 1998

Aha. I think they had The Orb on their books too.
