The Drake album had only the 5th best opening day on Spotify this year despite Toosie Slide being on it so clearly there is some sort Drake fatigue.

Indeed - 6 songs in the top 10, people really must be sick of Drake.

This gives us a good reference point to see in a few months when Drake drops his proper album if indeed the marketing difference between 'albums' and 'mixtapes' is significant though. Feel free to quote me if I'm wrong but I'm almost certain his summer album is going to do a fair bit better than this has done - by Drake project first day standards this hasn't really been that big so far. (Of course having 6 of the top 10 and 14 of the top 30 is still huge but Drake is one of the couple of artists for which that level of success is pretty much what you expect).

The online reaction to the Playboi Carti collaboration seems to have been nearly universally negative, unsurprising that it's the highest album track on day 1 as it had the NMF playlist spot and was the most hyped leaked song but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets overtaken by several other songs pretty quickly. For what it's worth, that track and 'Toosie Slide' aside, I feel like the general reaction to this online has been slightly better than that to his last couple of projects.

Yes 6 tracks in Top 10 but individual totals not great for anything bar Toosie Slide and even that is only just over 520k

Oh, you are funny sometimes.

But it still received success?

Only on about the same level as Ariana's 'boyfriend' (and with a much lower peak than that had), if you're citing that as an example of an underperformance then 'Money In The Grave' definitely fits that description as well. He also had 'I'm Upset' as a single from his last album that made nearly no impact at all (and as I mentioned in the quoted post 'Signs' was also a pretty middling hit comparable to the Ariana examples you posted), he definitely isn't completely guaranteed major success with everything he releases.

I'm not really sure why 'Money In The Grave' wasn't a bigger hit tbh, I think it's one of the better singles he's released in the past few years and it definitely wasn't as lazy as songs like 'Toosie Slide' and 'Life Is Good' that have done much better this year.

Also only 2 unheard songs on Drake's Mixtape, surprise release, and some of the songs are on Youtube for months, and still amazing numbers, see you in a month or 2 when his proper album will come out and with a push and all new songs. That would be funny.

I think the Drake tracks will fall quickly in the coming days. Toosie Slide is probably going to #1 officially though.
Say So needs an increase this week to avoid ACR (I think). I hope the remix holds up and it can repeak

People slating Drake...ITS A MIXTAPE, surely being on a chart forum you cannot be that stupid. When he releases a mainstream album in the summer records will.be broken. For the record, not even keen on him but the lack of knowledge from people desperate for males to flop on here is disgusting.

What records?

I, for instance, hadn't heard any songs from the album apart from Toosie Slide and I listen to a new music A LOT. While some 500k Drake fans around the globe are familiar with Chicago Freestyle, most people definitely are not.

Also, Pain 1993 is heavily pushed by Spotify on its playlists so there is clearly some marketing for this project.

Edited by SKOB

exactly, he's #1 on every global playlist on Spotify, even he's now the cover of HH, which is a pop playlist

the urban playlists have been pushing this like if there's no tomorrow

It would be stupid to expect a million streams for Pain1993

but it's not stupid to expect >400K when it's #1 on the most important urban playlist in the world, it's also on Today's Top Hits

plus on album release day

call it whatever you want but it's an underperformance

Not stupid, I know it's a mixtape? Doesn't stop him making actually good and creative music.

I did actually used to be a fan of his in the Take Care era but he's gone rapidly downhill.
