Is anyone else just not as excited for Eurovision this year as they were for previous years? I am finding it hard to get into a lot of the entries and feel the quality is very low this year...

No. The things that are keeping me interested are -

Ireland's staging

Moldova's staging

Sweden not qualifying

The crowd booing at Poland

Yeah. Not due to quality (I think it's a great year in terms of entries) but because of the state of things in the world I guess. I only realised we're 1 month away the other day and usually I'm counting the days. It's just not the same not having the possibility of going (even if I was at the live shows only once).

I’m hoping that when the rehearsal clips start dropping my hype will grow.

I think the crowd, the community, the side events like preview parties (which themselves generate hype and excitement) and the general buzz in the host city all add to Eurovision so much beyond the songs so I’d agree with that.

Songs wise there are plenty of keepers this year but nothing I’ve got hammering on repeat tbh. That may change with the rehearsals and seeing the staging etc but for now I do feel a bit more distant than usual to the contest.

I did find myself more engrossed in Melodifestivalen than I thought I would be with the lack of crowd, helped by a strong year for songs and generally good hosting, so no doubt once the events get going I’ll be whipped up in the bubble but for now there feels like a bit of a hype vacuum and I feel for The Netherlands. Hopefully they will win again before long and get to host it the way they want to.

April is dead because all the normal events that would happen to build hype slowly are not happening, so there's a bit of a malaise to this week. It's a strong year though.

However, hopefully that should change with the rehearsals, which the schedule is now out for - I'm making a topic.

A bit ironic given google says that the organisers have quickly denied this.

So Australia will not be in Rotterdam! I am intrigued to see how their home staging compares to the actual stage itself.

Apologies for self promotion, as ever when I post these things, but if you had... a casual 87 minutes to spare

A member of the Polish delegation has tested positive for COVID-19, meaning Poland will miss the Turquoise Carpet tomorrow, and possibly have to use the back-up tape performance in the semi final.
They were never qualifying anyway. I just hope it sticks with just them, a domino effect this late in the game would be horrendous.

Although now that they've all had the second rehearsals I wonder if they might prefer to stick with the version they recorded on Thursday?

Either way I don't think it'll make that much difference.

RUV claim it’s not someone present on stage but this can spiral out of control so fast it’s not a great position to be in. Really hope Daði & co managed to avoid getting infected.
A friend of mine who knows Sigrún from Gagnamagnið said that the six on the stage were all vaccinated before going to Rotterdam but idk how trustworthy of a source “a friend of a friend” is haha.
