The mother of pop superstar Robbie Williams is swamped with letters from his legions of loyal fans each week - despite the majority being simply addressed to Robbie, Stoke.

The mail from across europe somehow finds its way to Jan William's door each week, even though it is lacking both a proper address, postcode or country.

And Jan says she has been overwhelmed by the suppport and praise her son has received for his new album Rudebox, which has already reached double platinum status.

Jan said: "I have had lots of letters about Rudebox. They just put Robbie on the enverlope and somehow it finds my house. I get lots of mail from all over Europe, I get bags-full all the time. There's been a lot of mail about the new album which is really complimentary.

"When I get stopped in the street - and I get stopped a lot - everyone who stops me says they love his new album.

"After hearing it a few times now i think its really good, I've really got into it."

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "it goes to show how our people pull out all the stops to ensure mail gets to its destination.

"Of course it helps to be the mum, of an international star like Robbie, but there are often ordinary cases where our posties use their local knowledge to deliver against all odds."

Rudebox went to number one in the UK album charts in its first week of release. It then went on to hit the top spot in countries throughout Europe, shifting more than two million copies in less than two weeks, making it the fastest selling platinum-awarded album this year.

Lovelight, the latest single from Rudebox, was released on monday and this week also saw the release of Robbie's latest DVD: And Through It All: Robbie Williams Live 1997-2006. The DVD contains footage from more than 50 live performances, including gigs at Knebworth and Slane, as well as rare TV footage.

Jan said: "I really like the DVD. I've played it about three times now, not always on my own. People have asked to see it when they have come round and we've really enjoyed it."

At present Robbie is embarking on the final leg of his close Encounters Tour, scheduled to end in December, in Melbourne, Australia.

Robbie himself has admitted to the Austrailn press that during the past year he has worked harder than at any time since he left Take That.

The singer, aged 32, was even forced to cancel the Asian leg of his tour, due to "stress and exhaustion".

But according to Jan, the rest has done her son a world of good.

"He's looking forward to doing the last leg of his tour and hes feeling well, after having rested," she said. "The boys from Stoke are over there with him - his best friend Jonathan Wilkes and musicians Kelvin Andrews and Danny Spencer. He's really happy with everything."

Robbie himself can next be seen in his native Potteries in December, when he joins the cast of this years Christmas pantomime alongside his best friend.

Jonathan has revealed that Robbie will be taking the rold of the Genie, in this years production of Aladdin. But like his appearances with Take That on their recent tour, Robbie will only appear in the form of a hologram.

Jan has quashed rumours that Robbie will show up in person during one of the performances in Hanley.

She said: "He cant be there in person, but he will do what he can.

"Hes very good with children and he loves panto; hes a child at heart himself
