Update for week ending 2 September:

 

Shout out this week to Heat Waves - its 17 week official Top 40 run only peaking at #19 was quite impressive but it’s had a long 2nd wind which has been lost to ACR. I make it 28 weeks in this Top 40 now but peaking at a lowly #24, which must surely be unprecedented.

Along with the longevity of Heat Waves, seeing Mr. Brightside nearly back into the Top 40 after 17 years is incredible, and the fact that Perfect has had better longevity than Shape of You certainly isn't something I would've expected haha

I place Heat Waves at #23, which would give it a peak equal to its year to date position.

 

Talk About would be frustratingly stalling at #11.

 

Next week will be carnage - will Blinding Lights leave the Top 50 after 88 straight weeks?

Well as an ABBA fan I’ve never been so pleased about ACR and the 3 track rule - Don’t Shut Me Down absolutely needed both to make the Top 10. Drake would have most of the Top 10 and nearly half the Top 40 thanks to what are obviously largely album streams.

There’s been talk about the possibility of Ed breaking Bryan Adams’ record for the uninterrupted spell at #1 by a single artist - but without ACR he’d still have a chance to do it with a single song. Bad Habits would be comfortably spending a 13th week at the top and with sales dropping away very slowly.

 

Heat Waves would have taken even longer to reach the Top 10, finally making it this week.

1 more week until he beats his own personal best, will be interesting to see if he can do it or if Shivers will finally become a real #1 next week.

Update for week ending 7 October:

 

The Ed songs have swapped places so Bad Habits wouldn’t be breaking Bryan Adams’ record, although will still be interesting

to see if anything other than Ed himself can move ahead of it before Week 17. Bad Habits is now just a few k behind Good 4 U in total and in fact could overtake both Olivia songs this week.

 

Ed and Dua closed the gap on Stay, which is still going strong after 12 weeks and would very much have been the biggest hit of the last few months without Ed.

 

Perfect doing ridiculously well - ironic that when it was in the official top 40 last year it was nowhere near the true top 40, and now that it’s in the true top 40 it’s starred out. Both that and Mr Brightside are closing in on the year to date top 40. :drama:

Ugh at Perfect getting such a big boost from the release of new Ed material, but at least it won't be re-entering the official chart for a long time.

Good to see Shivers cementing itself as a proper number one anyhow and My Heart Goes making the top 20.

That's incredible. I was sure that Olivia would be #1 on the year-end chart because of the massive lead she had but at this rate it seems like Bad Habits might actually take it! What's the latest that a single that ended up at #1 on the year-end chart has been released before?

We haven't had a year-end #1 released so late since Eminem - Love the Way You Lie.
