Anyone else getting sick and tired of the constant whingeing and crys of sympathy from those that lost out with Farepak ?

Companies go bust every single day leaving staff and creditors out of pocket etc, Endowment policies were mis sold with thousands of people paying tens and thousands more than they should have without compensation in most cases, company employees lose a lot of money with the collapse of pension schemes yet there are none of this self indulgent whingeing there has been from those who lost money on Farepak

Why oh why were any of them such dumb morons to be handing out that sort of money UNSECURED (Farepak was not part of the FSA) in the first place ? if they wanted christmas to be safe they should have put the money into high interest savings accounts in the banks where you know it will be safe but they stupidly gambled with their xmas money so lost out

If I see another person on tv parading their kids crying about xmas being over I am going to throw something at the tv I swear to god, christmas is already over for the homeless and the tens of thousands of pensioners who will be spending christmas alone !

These people gambled with their money and handed it over no questions asked, a fool and his money are soon parted, it was hardly a money making scheme they got vouchers less than the value of what they paid in over the year (erm banks pay 5% INTEREST you dumb ****s :P )

Before anyone has a go at me and says they are poor so could not have bank accounts that is totally wrong, anyone can get a bank account in this country, several such as the Nat West Step account do not need credit checks or any financial information and so on. To put some balance into my thread if there is any evidence of fraud in the Farepak case the directors should face the full weight of the law

tbh im not sure they are whinging any more then anyone else who looses out when deals go wrong...

wether they are justified in their whinging or not depends upon wether or not any illegal activity has taken place... i suspect not, therefore their whinging is tough!

I think what got to me most was the cynical use of children on tv and in the media etc, crying kids always tugs at the public and media heartstrings and so on, banks and newspapers etc have made huge donations and some MP's have given up pay and so on but did the media do that for the Maxwell pensioners who suddenly found they had lost their income or the Railtrack shareholders/employees who lost everything, no, I just am sick of children being paraded in the media trying to gain extra sympathy and donations more than anything else

So little Tommy might not get a PS3 this year or an IPod because of Farepak but xmas is hardly over  xmas is about spending time with family and playing games and so on not about materialistic possessions

If that was me and I had put money away for christmas then lost it, I would be annoyed, I think most people would.

I wouldn't trust a company to look ater my money though tbh, why can't people just put the money in a bank or even keep it in a box at home etc?

i think that farepack customers were largely thick scum people with just enough intelligence to understand that they are too weak willed to be relied on to save money......

Exactly. While I would not necessarily believe Farepak people got what they deserved they acted like utter t**** just handing money over like that in the first place so hopefully people will realise in future to stick money in the bloody bank

So why did they actually hand money over? Were they getting interest or something? What was so good about it?

No interest whatsoever, they would just pay a certain amount per month and at xmas time get a load of money off vouchers and a hamper to the value of what they paid less fees so they could have got everything a lot cheaper had they just shopped at Tesco's and Toys R Us and put the money in the bank gathering interest, it was purely an instalment plan thing for seemingly weak willed people

lol true they were

Yeah I would not say they deserved it I am not that harsh lol but they were silly to invest all this money into a scheme that operated like this that was not a member of the Financial Services Authority they either knew or should have known the risks involved

I regularly invest in the stock market and before I put money into buying shares in a company I check out that company thoroughly and make a calculated decision based on their financial records that are registered at companies house whether or not to invest.

I would not be dumb enough to hand an unlicenced and unregulated by the FSA company like Farepak £200 of my money each month (typical amount that was being handed over to them by these mugs and HOPE I would get it back at the end of the year

I do feel sorry for them but they need to realise it could be alot worse! At least they've got roofs over their heads. I mean compared to people living on the streets they're going to have an extremely comfortable and luxurious christmas.

Absolutely

Any little brat of theirs who screams on Xmas day because he hasn't got a brand new IPod and widescreen tv for xmas because of the Farepak thing should be dragged infront of the TV and forced to watch a news report from Sudan, that is REAL suffering

I kinda object to the fact that they appear to be getting bailed out when others aren't (eg, people in Company Pension schemes who are being totally shafted, ..); BUT, to me this is yet another example of the unnacceptable face of Capitalism, rich getting richer and fukkin' over the working classes... Farepak bosses knew damn fine that things were not going well quite a while in advance and continued to allow people to put money in... And Farepak bosses themselves have cetainly not lost out in any of this, many are incredibly well off and are living lifestyles the poor sods who put money in can only dream of.. If you ask me, they fukked this up, so they should be forced to sell their nice big houses and cars to compensate their investors... Time for some "Corporate Responsibility" if you ask me... <_<

Okay, maybe they were a bit thick, but if that's a crime...... And it's not as if this was some sort of dodgy shares or city deal, this was a reputable (or at least they claimed to be..) company, they did this so they didn't have to take out loans or get credit cards and get into debt for Christmas, so in that sense they were acting fairly responsibly....

... some of those thickos are taking out loans at an apr of 143%

a fool and his money are soon parted.....

Strange, the people I've seen interviewed made a point that they went into this Farepak scheme instead of taking out loans or credit cards.... Have I missed summat....?

But, Rob, you have to bear in mind that the banks tend not to give loans to people on low incomes, so these nasty little loans companies or loan-sharks are a lot of people's only recourse... Also bear in mind that there are precious few banking institutions in many poor or disadvantaged neighbourhoods - especially housing estates, most of the banks having shut up branches in these sorts of areas long ago....

They are mugs, just get little Tommy cheaper presents this year, its not like it is child abuse or likely to result in legal action buying cheaper presents instead of a PS3 and an IPod this year. Kids have to realise they can't have everything in this world at the click of their fingers.

Loan sharks don't **** about, miss payments results in broken limbs not county court judgements and anyone who gets themselves in with a loan shark just to appease some little brat is beyond help

exactly craig...

my parents always told me "you cant have what you cant afford".... common bloody sense.

strange isnt it that thatcherism told us to "cut our cloth accordingly" but has also fueled this 'must have' generation...

Yeah same, I think Britain takes its lead from America though as opposed to Thatcher, those that were bought up in the Maggie era are the current generation of parents and the struggles they had before Maggie came along should have taught them to remember where they came from and be careful financially.

In the unlikely event of me becoming a parent in the future my kids will have what I can afford and nothing else, I would never get into massive debt for them

Although I never went without, I was never spoiled, I got most of what I wanted at Xmas but santa would always leave at least two things of my list so I knew I couldn't get everything I wanted.

I do feel for these people that have lost money but i would rather keep money in a box in my house rather than give to a company like Farepark, it seams stupid as people could save from Jan-late oct/ early Nov and then just buy stuff with the money they have saved. Or they could spread the cost of christmas over the year and buy some stuff in every month.
