Posted November 28, 200618 yr PRESS RELEASE 27/11/2006 The Record Of The Year 2006 – Ninth Event. Moves from ITV to Online. The Record Of The Year, a single award for a single year, has decided to move from terrestrial TV coverage to an online, internet event. “ITV has been brilliant over the past nine years†says Jonathan King, the founder and owner of the event. “The ratings every year have been fantastic. But we found that the voting was being dominated by fan base, which meant that popular artistes rather than records were winning, year after year. At the same time ITV were expressing the desire to reflect more credible artistes, whereas I believed genuine popularity was the key to the success. Also I could see the transfer of enthusiasm from terrestrial to internet activity. As a result we are linking with You Tube, My Space, Google, Grouper, Revver, Yahoo, AOL and all the other online sites and asking members of the public to create their own videos for our finalists and to vote for their favourite tracks. Combining The Record Of The Year with YOU DO MOVIES is the way forward.†ITV will instead broadcast a live show called 2006: Greatest Hits featuring artistes like Kasabian, The Killers and The Fratellis. The Record Of The Year finalists are a very different lineup. They are, in alphabetical order by title… CRAZY: GNARLS BARKLEY FROM PARIS TO BERLIN: INFERNAL HIPS DON'T LIE: SHAKIRA FT WYCLEF JEAN I DON'T FEEL LIKE DANCIN': SCISSOR SISTERS I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKER: SANDI THOM MANEATER: NELLY FURTADO NO TOMORROW: ORSON PATIENCE: TAKE THAT SMILE: LILY ALLEN SOS: RIHANNA The website ROTY2006.com will show the chosen public and amateur videos, compile the votes and announce the result on Saturday 16th December. November 28, 200618 yr So happy Westlife are'nt there :o :D Tell me about it. :o :yahoo: Although my excitement would be totally killed if Lily Allen or Scissor Sisters were to win this.
November 28, 200618 yr No Westlife & no Mcfly! :party2:    Personally, I hope Take That wins, but I think Shakira deserves to win (as a two fingered gesture to Radio 1's playlist for not including the popular track).
November 28, 200618 yr Take That will win I think, but overall I'd say that's a pretty good list of hit songs from this year. The only one I seriously dislike is the Sandi Thom one, but that was a fairly, erm, significant hit this year.
November 28, 200618 yr Is the winner decided by sales, airplay, votes, what? Votes, I still think it'll all be about the fanbase though and TT will probably win it, why is it included so soon? and where's JT?
November 28, 200618 yr Nelly Furtado, is the best in that list. and i'm not just saying that because i worship the woman
November 28, 200618 yr Why the hell is take that included???? Shakira to win.. will it still be shown on tv but the results announced from the net?
November 28, 200618 yr The only reason it's moved to the net is cos the new format introduced last year was an absoloute pile of $h!t
November 28, 200618 yr Only 2 other records have had a higher first (physical) week sale than Take That (Gnarls Barkley & Scissor Sisters) - so their inclusion isn't that surprising.
November 28, 200618 yr "Crazy" is my fave song from the list, but I think that either "I don't feel like dancin'" or "Patience" are more likely to win. Edited November 28, 200618 yr by Sound-Bite
November 29, 200618 yr Nelly, Shakira and Rihanna deserve to win it the most. If any of those songs win, I'll be happy. In terms of song, Patience isn't anything special, it's just that it's "Take That's Comeback :o :o !!!" that it's got so much attention. Edited November 29, 200618 yr by Ashley
November 29, 200618 yr My preference for this list: HIPS DON'T LIE: SHAKIRA FT WYCLEF JEAN SMILE: LILY ALLEN MANEATER: NELLY FURTADO CRAZY: GNARLS BARKLEY FROM PARIS TO BERLIN: INFERNAL PATIENCE: TAKE THAT I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKER: SANDI THOM I DON'T FEEL LIKE DANCIN': SCISSOR SISTERS SOS: RIHANNA NO TOMORROW: ORSON I own 7 of those (my top 7) on single so as long as Orson don't win I really don't mind who wins although obviously I'd prefer Shakira, Lily or Nelly as they were my 3 big songs of the summer!!!
