Just had a thought that The Joshua Tree could be No.1. Had thought Thriller up to now. Will Brothers In Arms be top 4 and what about the superb Terence Trent D'Arby debut album? We haven't had No's 50-41.

Edited by Crazy Chris

Thriller only number 4. It think it might be Brothers In Arms if that hasn't featured yet.

Oh yeah hadn't thought of that. You could be right. A lot of people say it hasn't aged well.

The Stone Roses another vastly over-rated group.

Agreed.

Has to be The Joshua Tree then.

I don't own any U2 albums but I like many of their songs so I don't mind them topping this poll.

Gary Davies' voice sounds a bit different these days. Steve Wright,Tony Blackburn and other ageing DJs still sound the same.

Today Pick Of The Pops at 2pm on Radio 2 plays the top 20 best-selling albums in the UK in 1983 followed by the top 20 from 1987. To mark National Album Day.

Numbers 9 and 10 received the same numbers of votes and were placed joint 9th.

It was reported on the programme that Kate Bush missed out on a top 10 place by just 2 votes.

The albums that were in places 41-50 were:

Bob Marley & The Wailers– Uprising

Culture Club - Colour By Numbers

De La Soul – 3 Feet High And Rising

Diana Ross - Diana

Eurythmics - Be Yourself Tonight

Grace Jones – Nightclubbing

Janet Jackson - Control

Simply Red - A New Flame

Terence Trent D’Arby - Introducing the Hardline According to…

Tina Turner - Private Dancer

The Dire Straits album has aged poorly for me, ‘Private Investigations’ was a lot better. Basically love all the top 10!

Would have had Soft Cell a lot higher!

I'd have had Culture Club in the Top 10 as it's a great album. Also Terence's debut as it's fantastic too.
Yeh Culture Club were a defining 80s act so deserved to be higher but they only had 2 successful eras.

It is hard to argue much with the list as a lot of the higher placed albums consistently do well in such polls.

It would have been interesting to have had Bad shortlisted instead of Thriller as it seems to be more popular in the UK and would maybe have given Joshua Tree a run for its money.

Personally i cant stand The Smiths or U2 but if others do then fair enough.

Hope the beeb do similar polls for the 1970s and 1990s albums.

Yes a lot of critics also say that Brothers In Arms hasn't aged well.
