55. YVA - Vasaros Mergaites (2005) - 8.5

It’s almost impossible to avoid YVA on one forum with me and as my all-time # 1 act they predictably will have more songs than anybody else in this countdown.

 

Most popular Lithuanian girl group YVA is a sexy trio of lead singer Natalija Bunke, her sister Kristina Ivanova and Goda Sabutyte.

 

"YVA" (Ypatingai Viliojanti Atrakcija) is an abbreviation, on English it means Extremely Seductive Attraction. From 2005 to 2010 YVA released 4 albums and a compilation of their greatest hits. In the end of 2016 year the ladies did a comeback on Lithuanian pop music scene in original line-up with some new versions of their big hits. After 7 years of fans' waiting new YVA song "Kaukes" ("Masks") was released in October 2017.

 

Original and current line-up : Natalija, Kristina, Goda. After a debut album Goda left YVA, became a member of Lithuanian girl group 69 Danguje and was replaced by Gintare Valaityte. For short time period (before break-up in 2011) YVA had 4 members, when Ieva Stasiuleviciute joined to band.

 

All three ladies also are the participants of other Lithuanian girl groups. On the current moment of time they are Pop Ladies (for Natalija), 69 Danguje (for Goda) and fresh band Kristal (for Kristina).

 

“Vasaros Mergaites” (Summer Girls) became the summer hit of 2005 year in Lithuania and secured the success of their previous song “Berniukams” (For Boys).

 

P.S : If you are a big fan of pure pop from late 90s and early 00s you obviously must give a chance for YVA. Probably these beautiful ladies will stole your heart as they did with me.

 

54. Cats UK - Sixteen Looking For Love (1980) - 8.5

Cats UK is a British four-piece female band. Bea Rowley was a lead singer.

 

The group had to rename itself to Cats UK, because of the existence of Dutch band The Cats. However, this still does not uniquely identify them because of the existence of the reggae band of the same name, who were also from UK.

 

A third single and second number one in my chart "Sixteen Looking For Love" was the end of their singing career.

51. Pearls - Third Finger Left Hand (1972) - 8.5

Chart results : # 31 in UK

 

 

Pearls’ version of “Third Finger Left Hand” is a part of my holy trinity best songs about wedding together with iconic Reparata - Shoes and "Catch The Bride's Bouquet" (illegal for countdown, because it's B-side on "Things You Hear About Me"), recorded by Irish group Maxi (she represented Ireland on ESC 1973), Dick and Twink.

 

50. Boom - How Do You Do ? (2009) - 9.0

“How Do You Do?” is English language version of low-known Russian song “Holidays”, which surprisingly was covered many times on different languages, even on Lithuanian. German and the most popular version was recorded by BeFour and became top 5 hit in Austria.

 

Boom’s cover is my favourite, but I also like Dutch language version.

 

49. YVA - Pabuciuok (2005) - 9.0

Let’s continue to listen "Berniukams" LP with their third chart topper "Pabuciouk" ("Kiss"). Possibly YVA ladies had the problems with music material for debut album. For example "Pupytes" sounds more like demo version, not the final release.

 

As a big fan of group I like first YVA album, but after this release was very hard to see their potential and future rank of the best girl group in all music history.

48. Shampoo - Delicious (1995) - 9.0

Like two their previous singles "Delicious" also easily reached # 1 and was included in my top 5 favourite songs of 1995 year.

47. Supersister - Coffee (2000) - 9.0

 

Country : United Kingdom

Chart results : # 16 in UK

 

 

Supersister are three English ladies Tina Peacock, Louise Fudge and Eleanor Phillips from Sheffield. “Coffee” became their signature song, but the band wasn’t one hit wonder. Supersister supported Steps and Hear’Say on tour in 2001. Girls recorded a debut album under the title “Lip Service”, but it was never released.

 

46. 4 Roses - Norim Dar (2016) - 9.0

 

Country : Lithuania

 

 

4 Roses is a group of four girls (Giedre Girnyte, Egle Cepaite, Akvile Kisieliene, Dileta Meskaite), formed during Lithuanian version of famous international TV project "X Factor" and took 5th place. The name of group was changed, when Egle left the band. Under new title “Queens of Roses” the ladies participated in Lithuanian National Eurovision pre-selection two times with “Fisherman” in 2017 and “Runaway” in 2019.

 

“Norim Dar” (We Want More) is the cover version of Donny Montell’s song.

45. La Forza - Leisk Tave Paguosti (2019) - 9.0

Three Lithuanian pop and crossover singers Vaida Genyte, Renata Norvile and Neringa Nekrasiute have gathered together for a joint project - brand new female group La Forza in 2018. They have been giving concerts one by one for many years, but coming together in one group led to great challenges and ambitions that impressed the audience.

 

“Leisk Tave Paguosti (Let You Go)” was their entry for Lithuanian Eurovision pre-selection - 2019. In the end of year Vaida left La Forza and made the decision to withdraw from the general musical activity herself.

 

44. Shampoo - Trouble (1994) - 9.0

Chart results : # 11 (UK), # 16 (Netherlands), # 17 (Australia, Belgium)

 

 

“Trouble” was the most successful song for Shampoo and peaked near Top 10 in United Kingdom.

 

Dutch cassette release of their beautiful debut album “We Are Shampoo” is the most interesting thing in my small music collection.

 

43. Loose Chippin's - Girls Getting Naughty (2000) - 9.0

Loose Chippin’s were British low-known pop group that were made of 5 girls - Natalie, Carly, Nikki, Danni and Barbara.

 

My sister was a big fan of Atomic Kitten and Steps, she bought a lot British music magazines (mostly Smash Hits, TV Hits and Top of the Pops) in 2000-2004 years. I discovered Loose Chippin’s through Buzzin' teen magazine, there was a half-page note with preview of their debut video "Girls Getting Naughty".

 

42. Magnit - Viskas Bus Gerai (2016) - 9.0

Four years after YVA split the most beautiful lady in Lithuanian pop Kristina Ivanova wished to re-launch her music career and created new girl group Magnit. The first line-up also included Karolina Juskaite, Emilija Katauskaite and Laura Navikaite.

 

"We are four different personalities, different in appearance, character and hair color," laughs Kristina. "But we have one thing in common - love of music." "How will we stand out from other bands? Our songs are different - there will be no usual struggle between good and evil, and there will be no depression permeated with tears or rose thorns. We are happy and we will infect our listeners with this feeling, ”the girls burst with an enthusiasm.

 

"Viskas Bus Gerai" (Everything Will Be Fine) was the third number one for Magnit and 15th chart topper for group leader Kristina in my chart.

41. La Forza - Jeigu Tu Iseisi (2018) - 9.0

I was impressed by La Forza vocals, beautiness and style, so took “Jeigu Tu Iseisi” (If You Go) as my comeback entry for Worldvision music contest on ESC United forum. Unfortunately I got my worst result, the last place in the semifinal with only 8 points.

40. Lash - Beauty Queen (2001) - 9.0

Chart results : # 31 in Australia

 

 

Lash was the alternative/punk rock band from Perth, Australia. The members Belinda-Lee Reid, Jaclyn Pearson, Jessica Bennett and Micaela Slayford met at Catholic Santa Maria College.

 

"Beauty Queen" is the second single from their album "The Beautiful and the Damned" and appears on "Freaky Friday" soundtrack. Main vocalist sounds a lot like Courtney Love, maybe Hole fans will like it.

 

In 2001 year Australian chart was translated on MTV Russia, but I forgot that "Beauty Queen" was peaked in the end of chart, not in top 10. Lash had # 1 debut in my chart, but after it became a victim of allSTARS* superhit "Things That Go Bump In The Night".

Yay, another Pearls track :dance: Third Finger Left hand is a goodie, and I know Shampoo stuff, but I didnt recognise that Cats UK track - though I know the earlier single hit they had! I wonder if there will be any more I know at the top end :)

John, from top 40 you obviously know Girls Aloud songs and main Cats UK hit, four other tracks were represented in UK chart and one song is well-known for big hate wave on Youtube and in other media.

39. YVA - Katyciu Dainele (2006) - 9.0

"Katyciu Dainele" (Cat Song) was a main YVA hit from their second album "Katytes" (Cats), which sold enough discs for Platinum certification after only one week.

 

A debut group album "Berniukams" sold 40 thousand copies during the year and became the one of the most desired and successful recordings of Lithuanian pop music in 2000s decade.

Pop Ladies singer Anzela Adamovic was embodied in her good friend and stage partner Natalija Bunke in Lithuanian version of famous international TV show "Your Face Sounds Familiar" and performed "Katyciu Dainele".

 

38. Skandi Girls - Do The Can Can (2004) - 9.0

"Do The Can Can" was released in December and the ladies really wanted to get UK chart hit on Christmas. In my chart Skandi Girls were very close to the top and hold the second place for four consecutive weeks.

 

Lene from Skandi Girls said "We want to put some fun back into Christmas!" and I agree with her. There are no Christmas for me without the festive hits from Skandi Girls, Fast Food Rockers, Cheeky Girls and the one other single, which we will see in top 30.
