Posted October 27, 20204 yr If so, please can you help me. Please leave this thread here mods as I need help. I want to buy a brand new all-in-one PC online in UK. No tower, no laptop, no refurbished. My current one just switches itself off all the time after I dropped it and had it repaired once so enough is enough. I don't know whether to get Dell, Acer or HP. My old school mate was going to help me but is always busy. He said a Dell. I don't know anything about RAM, Rom or REM or what spec I need. I have no music on my pc now and don't download anything, just browse the net, Youtube, Facebook, forums, banking etc. The more reviews I read the more confused I get. :( Okay up to £800. Can you find me one please. Oh and I hate laptops. :o Edited October 27, 20204 yr by Crazy Chris
October 27, 20204 yr i feel like if u don't have any specific purpose in mind, nd you just want to browse any of the three you mentioned would be fine! i've had the best experience w/ acer from all of the above but i have a HP screen now (not computer tho) and it runs fine with my laptop

This one's Acer and inherited it from my daughter. My previous was a Dell. Should I go cheaper or a spec. up? He doesn't rate HP at all, except on sausages or bacon. :D
October 27, 20204 yr Author I'll look and post one in this thread and then see what you think. Maybe tomorrow as this devil keeps going off. Six times yesterday. Something to do with the on/off button. John said if he lived nearer he could override it so it stays on all the time. They did that in the PC shop, £80 so not paying again. Pity as apart from that it's fine. October 27, 20204 yr Author post a few links here and i can add a poll to your post so we can decide! Okay then but may be tomorrow now.
October 27, 20204 yr I've had the same Acer laptop for over 7 years and it's still going although there are cracks/bits missing around the power button which make it a small nuisance to turn on from scratch (I don't fully shut it down anymore so when not in use it just stays 'on' with a blank screen) so it's a brand I trust enough personally
October 27, 20204 yr Author This is only 3 years old as my daughter only had it a year as she was at Uni so used a laptop. When she died in April '18 I got it so not that old really. Got 9 years out of my Dell.
October 28, 20204 yr No tower? It's much better to get a tower for the long-term, then you can be modular about it, all-in-one PCs make me really suspicious, sounds like you can't move it and can't even upgrade it then. With a tower (I doubt it but) if you wanted to play games or make art then you could upgrade your parts later if what you have isn't enough. Though if all you want is internet browsing, I'd go for these stats at a minimum: - Brand really doesn't matter all that much, Dell, HP, whatever will all have good and bad points but if you pick a named model, google its name + 'review' and check it's not horrible - Intel i5 processor with at least 1.5GHz, preferably 2+ (don't go for i3, that's for fobbing off people who don't mind a slow computer, and i7 is the really expensive one - most computers have Intels or at least an equivalent) - 8GB RAM (you could get away with 4gb if you're doing nothing with it but even 8gb's fast becoming really slow, I upgraded to 16 last year and it's so much better) - 500GB Storage Space if it says Hard Disk (HDD), or 128GB if it says SSD (I don't know what you'd store, games, programs, but it's nice to have this stuff and even 1TB (1000GB) is really cheap these days, SSDs are faster to load things but have much less space) - make sure other parts are at least in working order - comes with Windows 10 or similar OS, is 64-bit rather than 32-bit, nearly all programs are transitioning to 64-bit now - integrated graphics card is fine if you don't play games, if you do, you'd need a better one - if there's anything else you don't really need to worry about it if it confuses you Most probably the second-cheapest new computer the site is offering will have all of that if they're decent sellers but check first. I'd also see if you can get help from your friend or someone else who can put a computer together if you really want a decent rig, I'm not up on latest prices, but in the past it's mostly been cheaper to do it that way rather than buying it all in one.

Some electric connection is likely loose. Maybe just look and see if you can buy a new on/off part and try a different shop. I'd consider fixing a PC before buying a new one if otherwise it's fine - as very likely it has those same stats I just posted or similar if it's only 3 years old.
