imagine if they hadn't put Afterglow as track #1 on every existing playlist on Spotify :o

but seriously imagine if he had been given a regular treatment, like Dua or Harry,

would be on 5 streams :D

He wasn't put on any new music friday playlists. I believe those are way more powerful for new songs. So the #1 on TTH and hot hits isn't as useful as it appears because he is missing from every new music Friday playlist on Spotify. Didn't dua debut at #1 on hothits and tth with her lead?

What's the precedent for songs released at midday instead of midnight? I know in Aus that whenever a big artist releases midnight US time everywhere on a Friday, they basically almost always without fail, take until Sunday or Monday to actually peak (while having dipped massively in the US/UK in that time) because of time zone nonsense, so I'm interested in what the day 2 streams are like because they may well be higher than expected.

(that said if the song itself doesn't have much retention value, there's only so much you can do)

This. For some reason the forum seems to heavily exaggerate the effect of these playlists despite seeing songs like Willow and Afterglow which have good placement but fail to give results. There is a correlation between "hits" playlists with the top charts but it's not a relationship based on causation.

Flop Sheeran down to #10 on Apple :D :) ;)

Leona must be getting better playlist support on Apple than Spotify

cos One More Sleep is #4 on Apple!

I thought willow had poor placement ?

Ed down #1 to 19 on today's Spotify update with 277K

Mariah with 699K, Wham with 692K

You live in an alternative universe if you think HH is not important and doesn't dictate the charts

of course there are exceptions, like this week when people only care about xmas songs

but now it's Christmas Hits dictating the charts, people don't know how to use Spotify if not using playlists
