Following up the biggest radio hit in history—"Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira with Wyclef Jean —is no doubt daunting, so Epic is doing soft-shoe with the Latin siren's "Illegal" from her tepidly received "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2." This gorgeous ballad mourns the loss of a lover in the singer/songwriter/producer's most understated performance to date, as Shakira laments, "It should be illegal to deceive a woman's heart." Santana effectively weaves a quiet electric guitar thread throughout, like tears accompanying the loss. It may take MTV/VH1 fuel to catapult "Illegal" and convince top 40 that there's room for two ballads, alongside Christina Aguilera's "Hurt" —but this forlorn masterpiece is as instantly reactive on the slow side as "Whenever, Wherever" was on the fast. —Chuck Taylor

i'm glad he picked up on the understated part cause it could struggle because of this, it is such a contrast from HDL but i'm hoping the US public give this song a chance
Great review! I'm glad someone likes it  It definately is understated but I don't think that's a positive when it comes to singles...

wow a great review!

However i think singles hould be something that attracts instantly to radio, growers dont really tend to do well.

I hope it does well over there but i am still doubting that it will do well over here :(
I think & hope it can go top 20, as long as it charts higher than Obection :P
