The Exorcist "trilogy" was long hailed as among the worst - the sequel was absolutely horrendous and the third film had so little to do with the first films that the studio forced the directors to add an exorcism scene to the end - totally useless and bizarre. Anyway if people thought it couldn't get worse, they were wrong because the 2004 Renny Harlin prequel was absolutely insulting and utterly unwatchable TRASH.

Umm, that's a bit weird, cos "Exorcist 3" was actually based upon Blatty's book "Legion", which was his follow-up to the original book.... It also features the Father Karras character, so I dunno how you can say it's not related to the first, it's more of an official sequel than "The Heretic"... It's the second one that had nowt to do with Blatty's actual work...

The released prequel was a joke, but the one that they shelved, "Dominion", is actually a bit better, less of the CGI c**p, more emphasis on character and story. Still not perfect, but a damn sight better than Harlin's which was clearly rushed...

You're right but then the film should have been called "Leigon" like Blatty wanted. He had to rewrite major parts of the script to accommodate the studio demands. They wanted a major exorcism scene (not in Legion) and they wanted a character from the original Exorcist to justify their marketing of the film as Exorcist III. So they hired Jason Miller and Blatty wrote in this ridiculous sequence of scenes where two actors play the same person...

Anyway you're correct that it's a got more credit than Exorcist II (and it's certainly a better film) but Blatty caved to studio demands and the end result is a film totally unworthy of its name.

I haven't seen Dominion yet, actually - the other prequel kind of turned me off altogether :P

"Dominion" was actually written and directed by the man who wrote "Taxi Driver", Paul Schrader... It's a lot more psychological than "The Beginning", as you would imagine.... Trouble is, because some of the effects seem a bit unfinished, it does look a bit laughable in places, but luckily there's not really much CGI anyway..... And the finale is far more interesting...

Just seen the 6th in the Rocky serioes and it was ****ing good so some movies are crackers even if they sequels.

Sorry mate, but I can only really rate the first one, they just got increasingly more and more ridiculous, especially the fourth one with Dolph 'wooden top' Lundgren....  Hilarious...

Mind you, this new one ('Rocky Balboa') looks okay, I reckon it's gonna be a more 'back-to-basics' approach like "Casino Royale" did for Bond..

Batman Begins though which was the 5th Batman movie was the best of the lot though

you mean 6th dont you as 5th would be batman and robin (if you're not starting off again and not inc. the 1940s serials obv)

Rocky Balboa was brilliant, it was right up there with the original in terms of gritty realism and had quite a dark edge to it, 4 and 5 were dire but this one was great I thought
