Daz Sampson is back trying out for Belarus again, with Belarussian singer Katya Ocean

"Kinky Boots" was a bop but obviously novelty/a joke, whereas I think this is genuinely decent! Belarus could surely do A LOT worse than this. Case in point....another song that has been submitted....

 :drama: No Kazna. That is not it.

I hate Braids SO much, I know that different countries have different 'acceptable' standards but I really expect even if Belarus chose this the EBU would see sense and tell them to go back to the drawing board. Not the image the contest wants to be portraying at all.
Literally anything Belarus sends this year is going to be a bit...tense to say the least so I say they might as well just go all in and go for something trashy like Braids!

Not as good as Daz obviously but THANK GOD they didn't go for "Braids" girl!

I quite like it actually, even if it screams "we just want to blend in and make as little impact as possible this year"

I was hoping this was going to join Shum and Russian Woman in a trio of cyrillic language bops, never mind.

They have a bountiful history of incredibly sexist songs, also apparently this song is propaganda lmao how is this let slide

Meh. We needed an obvious last place in Semi 1 anyway.

At least this doesn't mean many people are going to be including Belarus in their 'problematic faves' list this year!

well, the song itself is kinda nice lyrically for Slavic people cuz almost every single line contains catch phrase or phraseological unit, which is interesting to listen to and trace how whimsically they are intertwined. Unfortunately, the sense of the song touches so many moral and political strings that I don't really know how to react. Given the fact that the band considers itself as anti-opposition and, apparently, supports current government, then lyrics go from zero to... something scary.

as for "To Women" song, I won't probably make an insight to any of you that they just express an opinion of conservative part of CIS countries (which is still HUGE at the moment) on not exactly women but on the whole 'tolerance' and 'feminism' things that are pretty much ridiculed all around the ex-USSR territory. Modern Europe doesn't understand and doesn't accept such an attitude, Eastern countries willingly do.

p.s. of course the song won't make it to the final, it's obvious. No one at the contest cares about Slavic countries with unsteady political situation. Besides, the band doesn't show any vocal abilities nor 'show'.

Yeah I got bad vibes as soon as it was released (because any Belarusian artist representing them this year is implicitly okay with the political situation there) and reading those translated lyrics and hearing from people who know Russian confirms it.

Good thing it's not even a good song so there's no dilemma in wishing this a very happy 4 points in the semifinal.

Well, they're in the semi final with Russia so they'll probably get somewhere between 12 to 24 points combined from them but that's probably (hopefully) it.

Conservative view on ladies is not always equal to sexism.

Yes it does

:')

This 'song' is absolute garbage that no one outside of the 60-dead age bracket would ever listen to these days.

Because many USSR countries are still ruled by a bunch of old misogynistic/homophobic/racist/etc. f***s. Things are changing over here so it's just a matter of time until they are dead and so is that 'opinion'.

The EBU has decided this is against the nature of the contest and Belarus will be disqualified if they do not modify the song!

that's a...wow.

I mean, yes, lyrics are kinda borderline but nothing really was sung in-your-face or in similar manner, so...preventive steps, I assume?
