Sovarasma opens 2025 with an earnest song about Palestinian identity.

zeyne is a Palestinian-Jordanian singer, songwriter and producer. zeyne is known to blend Western music with traditional Middle Eastern instrumentation, harmony, melody and style, drawing inspiration from Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. The

"Asli Ana" is a song of reawakening, exploring the concept of decolonisation by challenging the Western concept of "civilisation", which unfortunately has become a tool for oppression and imperialism. It highlights the importance of preserving the culture and history of the ancestors and indigenous people, in the world where assimilation has become common. The rhythm of "Asli Ana" is of the traditional Levantine folk dance dabke. The video shows her dancing alongside professional dabke dancers, while also featuring traditional Palestinian embroidery, or tatreez. She also wears traditionally male garments, which breaks stereotypes. The song is a tribute to Palestinian folklore, and contains instruments and melodies of Palestinian heritage. All in all, it is a song of Palestinian identity and resistance, as zeyne explains, “It’s about owning who we are, without compromise.”

Asli Ana feels like a culmination of this space (a platform for Palestinian art and culture), a vibrant expression of identity, history, and resistance.

After more than a year of relentless and indiscriminate assault and attack from I*rael, many Palestinians have lost their homes and struggled to find a safe place to survive. There is a real threat of the erasure of the Palestinian identity. This song really moved me for its unwavering perseverance of identity, and it's especially sombre with how politics are shaping up globally, with the underrepresented and oppressed becoming increasingly susceptible to mistreatment and being silenced.

Although I only sent the song part of the music video, please take time to watch the monologue in the first 2 minutes which explain the context pretty well. :D

BJSC 172 marks the 50th entry for the country Sovarasma

The song was first released in 2012, and a studio edit of this song came out 3 years later. Pim Stones is an English singer with Thai heritage. I first got introduced to this song through YouTube recommendations I believe back in 2012. I instantly fell in love with his deep vocals and the emotional nature of the ballad. I also love the orchestral nature of the song too, with the epic brass coming in the final chorus. This song came first in my personal chart for more than 30 weeks, and every year until 2015 I think this song came back to re-enter at number one to mark its anniversary of release. It has such an impact on me that I spam voted this song in multiple personal charts. 😭

Niceland will know this one and the lore of this song with uhsting in their teen years :kink:

Sovarasma withdraws from BJSC 173

Sovarasma will not be present in the upcoming Buzzjack Song Contest (BJSC) since BJSC 132

The official Sovarasman broadcaster Longorama of Sovarasma (LRS) cites financial difficulties as the primary reason of withdrawal. The decision comes after a series of commendable performances by Sovarasma. Notably, in BJSC 161, held in January 2024, Sovarasma was predicted to be a strong contender. Forum member RobBot anticipated a top-five finish, stating, "I think Sovarasma will dominate on the 18s front though but think Cor Lupus might have a tad more universal appeal." Then, Sovarasma competed with Fat Dog's "King of the Slugs" which came 1st with 354 points -- no winner from thence has surpassed this points record. Unfortunately, hosting BJSC 162 and 163 has proven to have cost LRS a colossal amount of money. The expenses have not yet to this day been offset by rising tourist figures. This also comes after inviting one of the biggest Sovarasman artists Pim Stones to compete in BJSC 172, which surpassed non-qualification predictions to finish 28th in the grand final. However, despite their musical successes, the financial challenges have proven insurmountable at this time.

As BJSC 173 approaches, the contest will undoubtedly feel the absence of Sovarasma's unique contributions, such as their introduction to new languages and impactful concepts. The situation serves as a reminder of the various challenges that participating nations may face beyond the music itself. LRS will be sorting out their finances and hope to make a triumphant return to the contest in the near future.
