rwylm is so underrated, it's one of my favourite taylor songs

i love 'invisible string' from that section too!

41-45 are all fabulous and probs all about the right kinda position give or take a few in either direction <3 As much as I love RWYLM, I'm glad it missed the top 40 considering what just beat it due to 11s.

46-50 are all a bit too high but I do stan them all

#38-#40:

38. Speak Now [Avg. 8.53]
39. marjorie [Avg. 8.53]
40. epiphany [Avg. 8.50 (more 10s)]

I am avoiding delaying this anymore so lemme do my section now xx

So in this section, and kicking off the top 40 we have a trio of album tracks!! We have the titular song from her 3rd album and two album cut gems from her latest two albums!!

It is v. fitting both the underrated 13th tracks from her latest two albums that are both about her grandparents are back-to-back here!!

Starting off the top 40 is the BEAUTIFUL epiphany   A career masterpiece and highlight, I'm SO glad this snuck top 40 here by the smallest margins!! It's in my top 10 Taylor songs of all time and 2nd on folklore for me after cardigod. I'm also glad it made the top 40 here as its so underrated literally everywhere else its insane, bottom 3 in terms of album streams and most people's personal tastes is absolutely disgusting :( Anyway it doesn't quite reach the highs of finishing 4th in the first folklore rate, whilst also not bombing as much as it did in the folklore poll series where it went out pretty early in like 13th. In terms of folklore songs in this rate, it finishes 9th! There's something so hauntingly beautiful about epiphany and for me it was the perfect song to encapsulate the lockdown & mood of mid 2020, it was the song that hit me hardest and just made time freeze and feel completely lost in this song. the first part relays her grandfather's experiences in war whilst the 2nd half is about COVID and just works perfectly. the lyrics are simple and beautiful & the instrumental is just stunning and really creates such a vivid atmosphere. I need the song to be used in a movie trailer, esp like a war movie, asap, I would have legit goosebumps. Anyway as ever I could go on about this beauty forever so lemme leave it there x epiphany received an 11 from Jonjo and five 10s (including myself, this was probs my next song in line to receive an 11!) but a couple 6s drag it down here.

Onto 39th is pretty much evermore's counterpart to epiphany in the form of marjorie, a beautiful song which is about Taylor's grandma and her dreams/aspirations & life <3 The lyrics are once again so beautiful and personal and the production is fabulous! I love how the production subtley increases as the song goes on and it rly hits so perfectly in the bridge. This was an instant fave for me from evermore and easily remains in my top 5 today! evermore has taken quite a beaten recently as now only 3 songs from the album remain!!! (tho they are the best 3 so good job there buzzjack x) marjorie is the highest non-UK charting song from evermore in this rate :o I'd probs have marjorie around here so wd again <3 <3 marjorie received the most 10s in this section with seven 10s but as with epiphany, a couple of 6.5's really affected it here!

The last section for this situation is the titular track from Speak Now! The song peaked pretty high off the back of the album's release in America and is a fab song which charts a wedding scenario! Ngl I adore Speak Now to death but its lowkey far too high here, should probs be around ~60/70th and there's def stronger SN songs that have already gone out! Still a classic though and it works perfectly within the album. The bridge slaps too as ever. Speak Now's exit means 4 more songs remain in the rate from Taylor's 3rd album! Speak Now only received three 10s and no 11s but scored NOTHING lower than a 7 so that consistency allows it to place pretty high here!

it's been a while but here's a quick hint for 35-37

(hints probs won't return again until the top 25 unless y'all rly don't want anymore xx)

It's time to open the song that was playing on the radio.

So glad to see epiphany make the top 40 here! It's my 2nd favourite on folklore too, so underrated

I love the other two songs as well!

It's time to open the song that was playing on the radio.

i'm thinking teardrops on my guitar radio version?

Love the commentary for Epiphany. Such a beautiful song. I saw a date recently where it came last!!! No way.

I disagree re: Speak Now - it’s so so good and I play it a lot.

Marjorie I also like but I can take it or leave it now.

#37-#35:

37.State Of Grace [Avg. 8.571]

36. Bad Blood Ft Kendrick Lamar [Avg. 8.578]

35. Teardrops On My Guitar [Avg. 8.58]

At number 37, we have State of Grace. It’s the opening track on Red and I think it’s a fairly average song if I’m honest about it. I do like listening to it, like I’m doing right now to write this rate, and when I do listen to it, I’m like, oh yeah this is pretty cool, but then never go back to it. There are a few other songs (Treacherous being one example) which I think would have been worthy of coming higher than this song. State of Grace was one of the promotional singles. Apparently, it is about the tumultuous feelings evoked from the first sights of love, which sets the tone for an album about lost romance. The song peaked at number 13 in the US. Some people will be very happy it’s one of the highest songs from Red and probably would have liked it to have hit higher: John-James gives one of their 11s; Ultra, Doug, Blacksquare and Qween gave it a 10.

Next at 36 is Bad Blood featuring Kendrick Lamar. I’m probably the only person in the world who prefers the solo version. I just feel like the rapping is unnecessary and takes away from the quality of the song. Idk. Lol. Probs just old. Anyway, the song peaked at number 1 in a few countries including the US, Canada & Australia and reached number 4 in the U.K. - not a bad days work really and of course I forced myself to love it at the time. And the video is just brilliant. The song finds Swift chronicling the tension between herself and another female musician. Of course media speculation pointed to Katy Perry. This also received an 11 from someone - Dexton - and one 10 from Jade. My 7 wasn’t the lowest score given because Among Haus gave the song a 6. The song mostly received 8s & 9s.

And at number 35 is the last song to leave from the debut album: Teardrops On My Guitar - radio version. This song is so great. I’m glad it made the top 40. The song didn’t receive any 11s and only one 10 from John-James, however it received mostly 8s and 9s with just one 6 from Cremey as a chink in its armour. Crazy to think this was just the second single. I wish I’d been around to enjoy the success of this at the time although it wasn’t released in the U.K. until a year later than in the US. Still, it would have been good to be stanning then. I just love the innocence in the video - she’s so cute. It also reminds me of all the times I’ve gone to bed with a guitar…
I am so hyped to see Out Of The Woods reach the top 35! I feel like that was completely underrated at release.

State of Grace   What an EPIC song. Her best album opener and an all-time classic, should've been top 25 here.

Bad Blood (Remix) is slightly too high but I love it, way prefer it to the original. I'm acc SHOCKED it finished top 40, I thought it's divisiveness would've seen it out at the same time as the Red to Rep lead singles.

Teardrops on my guitar is a throwback gem but again slightly too high. I also prefer the pop version to the radio version!

And on that note, unsurprisingly self-titled is the next album to fully depart after the xmas album!

#34-#31:

34. Welcome to New York [Avg. 8.59]
33. Cornelia Street [Avg. 8.61]
32. my tears ricochet [Avg. 8.63 (less 11s)]
31. seven [Avg. 8.63 (more 11s)]

First to drop out in this set is a promotional single from 1989. Ryan Tedder helped Taylor produce and write Welcome to New York. The song is described as "a synth-pop song that explores her freedom after she moved to New York City." Lots of 10s were given (me, Doug, Ho-Lee Smokes, MrAndrewMan, Nina West), some 9s, mostly high scores. Lowest was a 5 (Qween).

Next is an album track from Lover that seems to be popular among her fans. Cornelia Street refers to "a street in the New York neighborhood Greenwich Village, where Taylor had rented a townhouse." An 11 was given by Doug, my fellow mods London and Ultra gave it a 10 along with former mod John-James. Other high scores were a 9.5 (jtkoon) and a 9 (DionTheSats123). Lowest score is a 7 (Jade) which really isn't that low!

In this spot, a track from folklore leaves us. Taylor said that my tears ricochet is about an "embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of obsession." Again, lots of 10s (me, Blacksquare, Doug, John-James, Nina West, Ultra) a 9.5 (Jay). At the lower end, a 5 (Among Haus).

Here is another track from folklore. Seven is "a folk song with nostalgic lyricism blending present and past perspectives, which convey a 30-year-old Taylor introspecting on her childhood and recalling the purity of her relationship with an old friend, and the then 7-year-old Taylor incapable of understanding the domestic violence her friend experienced but realizing it years later." Two high scores of 11 (Jade, MrAndrewMan) and a 10 (jtkoon, Ultra). Lowest score is a 7, which again, isn't very low! (Dexton, JosephStyles, Klumzee, Tafty).
4 really strong songs! WTNY is a major bop, my tears ricochet is stunning and seven is one of my favourite taylor songs.
