It is indeed. I actually spotted the book in a shop window yesterday when I was in the city. :D

I might have a look for it and find the exact quote which states this - I won't believe it until I see it. :lol:

Its very nice to say that Mariah is the best selling chick on the planet, its also very nice to say that Emma Bunton is the best selling lass on the planet...the fact is..the book of records is a load of B.S! Even if i hated Madonna's guts, i would still say that she was officially the biggest selling female artist. And anyways...the book of records is known for its unoffcial content..i'd rather see wot the record companies say even though Mazza's record company would even have the cheek to say that Charmbracelet sold 20 million copies! :lol:

 

I aint dissing anyone here and i'd even say that warners are a bunch of pricks too...they never certify Madonna's albums and they should get off their lazy butts and highlight the fact that Madonna has sold 180 million albums for them since 1983! :o

The Guiness Book of Records is a pretty reliable source. You can't discredit it just because you don't like what it says.

My source is from warner Brother records that came in September 2005

Erm the Guiness World Records are one of the most official sources you can get.

 

Also, it's a well known fact that record companies exaggerate sales figures to make their artist appear more successful, just face it - Madonna has been beaten, she is NOT the biggest selling female artist anymore, you can whinge all you like about it being false or it being a typo or unofficial figures or whatever, but this is 100% true and you'll have to get used to it.

This was clearly proven the few weeks back when they said 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson had sold 104 million. That award made them lose alot of credibility imo. I mean it was only in the 2005 edition of their book where they said it had sold only 54 million. They also said he had sold 750 million records in total which is just ludacris :lol:

 

I remember thisispop did a breakdown of all of Madonna's singles + album sales and the total came to 310 million, obviously she has'nt sold that much so I pressume it was shipments or something. WB said Madge had sold 200 million albums a while back, but record company's always go by shipments. So I think Madonna has definatly shipped more albums and singles, but it's very difficult to say who has sold more. Also the Guiness book of records often tend to go by number of weeks in the chart :wacko: The arguement between Madge and Mariah will never ever end :lol: It always makes an entertaining thead though :P

 

Also according to media traffic The Emancipation Of Mimi has sold 7.735.000 copies and Confessions has sold 7.500.000 copies :unsure: Apperently you have to add 7.5 % to the totals as well. These figures seem out of date though, as both albums have sold over 8 million by now as far as I know :unsure:

I just think it's typical that something official has said that Mariah HAS sold more and Madonna fans will ALWAYS find a way to argue with it, it could come from the friggin' Pope himself, and they still wouldn't believe it, they're just gonna have to get used to it.

 

Well as I say the last I heard Confessions had sold 7.6/7.7ish, and Mimi had sold just under 10m.
