May 31, 20214 yr Author 59. WHAT WOULD YOU DO- City High (76,000) #3 No 1 in 16 weeks in 2001 Coming with a high pedigree City High encountered a couple of 2001’s heavyweights in DJ Otzi and Kylie Minogue which stopped it going higher. Co-written by Dr Dre and produced by Wyclef Jean it featured on the soundtrack of the 1999 film “Life” but was remixed to include a sample of Dr Dre’s “The Next Episode” for single release two years later. wt0_JCzHY08

IT’S MY LIFE- Bon Jovi (82,000) #3 No 1 in 16 weeks in 2000 Bon Jovi’s 12th top 10 single preceded their first album in 4 years and in W/E 3rd June 2000 it completed an all new top 3 trailing in third place behind S Club 7 and Sonique. It was helped of course by being co-penned by the man of the moment (circa 2000) Max Martin. 3BPcDkRIG1k

WILD HEART- The Vamps (83,130) #3 No 1 in 16 weeks in 2014 Honouring their usual path of being frontloaded, the Vamps second single started out the week in the runner up spot only to slip a lot by the end of the week, but “Wild Heart” opened with a healthier tally than debut hit “Can We Dance” though that only missed out on No 1 by just over a thousand copies. bKBOI8wtrj8
May 31, 20214 yr regarding It's My Life, Jon Bon Jovi claims that Max only got credit as a co-writer for being in the same room and that his impact on the song was less than minor.
May 31, 20214 yr "What Would You Do?" would have been a great #1! I prefer it to Kylie andof course DJ Otzi by quite some distance.
May 31, 20214 yr Love It's My Life, one of my favourite songs from them, what a shame they didn't wait until a different week given they never had a number 1!
May 31, 20214 yr That City High song was excellent - the lyrics certainly took an unexpected harrowing turn. One of the very few climbers in 2001.
May 31, 20214 yr Such a shame Bon Jovi never got a number one, 'It's My Life' is certainly up there with their best. Although I do think it's a bit of a stretch to say that it's more remembered than 'Reach' 'Wild Heart' is probably my favourite Vamps song, that would have made a great number one.
May 31, 20214 yr It’s My Life and What Would You Do? Are my picks from this lot. Both pretty decent songs.
June 1, 20214 yr regarding It's My Life, Jon Bon Jovi claims that Max only got credit as a co-writer for being in the same room and that his impact on the song was less than minor. So it sounds exactly like Britney Spears/NSync track by accident
June 1, 20214 yr sure he did something but apparently they didn't agree on the final product and Martin said it would have sounded completely different. Martin went on record afterwards saying that if they had choosen his preferred version the song would had broken all records.
June 1, 20214 yr It’s My Life was big but comparatively quite a bit smaller here than in mainland Europe I think, wasn’t it absolutely huge in Germany for example? I.e. in their end of year top five? Speaking only about the UK though, Reach has become a karaoke/party/talent show classic over the years and I’d say most people know it and could sing it. Not sure the same applies to It’s My Life, I don’t think it gets much residual airplay here like Livin’ On A Prayer and Always do. It Feels So Good is still on the radio a lot too, it was a pretty classic top three.
June 1, 20214 yr Yeah, IML was gigantic in Europe overall, not sure why it wasn't the case in the UK. It's also currently their 3rd most popular song on Spotify Edited June 1, 20214 yr by Sour Candy
June 1, 20214 yr yes in Europe sure it's the reverse, nobody knows S Club 7 but It's My Life was huge, I still remember being played in all bars and places and everybody going crazy, even at weddings it was a staple :D
June 1, 20214 yr Yeah, in terms of the UK there's absolutely no way 'It's My Life' is more remembered than 'Reach'. That song is very much enshrined in popular culture on a whole different level. Yeah, IML was gigantic in Europe overall, not sure why it wasn't the case in the UK. It's also currently their 3rd most popular song on Spotify I'd say it was a pretty gigantic hit in the UK, but that top 2 was impossible to overcome by anyone's standards.
