August 17, 20231 yr An interview with Grodner and engineer David Crivelli was posted earlier about the adaptations made for Matt, as well as mentioning specifically the veto competition: https://ew.com/tv/big-brother-deaf-contestant-matt-klotz The Twisted Tasks Veto competition taking place on tonight's episode offered a particular challenge. The competition itself comes from the Scrambleverse and takes place in a 1990s music store. Each contestant goes into the store one at a time to find three record players. The Houseguests put on headphones and listen to the records, each one of which plays an audio clue. The players must then put all three clues together. "They go from station to station, and they have to play it like a DJ would to get just the right speed to hear a word," says Grodner. "And so it's a clear audio element." That would seem to put Matt at a huge disadvantage, so producers got to work on leveling the playing field. "Without knowing the competition at all, we had him test out a series of voices so that we knew it was a voice that he would be able to identify and hear in this competition," says Grodner. The process involved a bit of trial and error. "We generated a series of questions at different frequency tones and we played them back for him to listen," explains Crivelli. "And he identified the one that that worked best for him. The frequency of the voices was determined based on his strength of what he could hear. And that same tone and voice went to everybody." Just as important as finding the right tone and voice was finding the right way to deliver them. "What we know is that noise is a bad thing for people that are trying to focus and have an impairment with their hearing." says Crivelli. "Even with hearing aids, people have a tough time honing in on the stereo localization of who's talking and what's going on. There's nothing we can do about that. But what we can do is we can change the playing field and make it better for him by eliminating unwanted noise." And the best way to do that? "We found a set of noise cancelling headphones that worked with his hearing aids," says the chief engineer. But it wasn't quite as easy as just buying any old headphones because, as Crivelli explains, "When you cup hearing aids, they tend to feed back. So we had to find some headphones that could allow his hearing aids to be set to a level and not feedback." Still a bit of an odd choice of competition to have on a season like this but it does seem like they're trying to level the playing field a lot, the article's quite an insightful read.
August 17, 20231 yr Author I honestly think they need to find better competitions to accommodate their deaf contestant. I was pissed last night, and apparently Matt was very upset after the competition. Outside of that, man… Hasim… this guy  I think if the other side wins this week he is TOAST. I kinda want Reilly to stay now.
August 17, 20231 yr Then why didn’t they show us Matt’s time? Why only show the top 3 when you weren’t scared to show people timing out before? I’d be pissed if I were Matt too
August 17, 20231 yr At least they made some accommodations, but it is so CBS to make a huge step forward in casting like this and then do an audio competition knowing there’s someone in the house who’s deaf and would struggle with it. I know they need to have different types of comps, but there’s so much else they could do that don’t leave Matt unable to perform as everyone else did.
August 17, 20231 yr They shouldn't have had an audio-based competition at all this season, I'm sure the comps are planned months in advance but as soon as they found out about Matt's impairment, they should have scrapped/changed this comp immediately really. We don't know for sure how much it affected Matt (or if this is why the feeds were down for so long), I agree not showing his time doesn't really help CBS's case though. I'm sure we'll learn more one day if CBS themselves aren't willing to show it. I feel sorry for Matt regardless though, especially with Reilly at risk of eviction when she's the one who's been taking the time to fill him in on conversations he might have missed. I think Matt's got to be one of the most genuine houseguests we've had in a long time, he's so adorable and sincere (and, as messy as Reilly is, I'm actually rooting for her against the VERY intense Hisam, even though he's on the same side as my queens Cirie and Felicia).
August 17, 20231 yr The sad thing is Matt said last week he was worried about having competitions where he would have a disadvantage and Kirsten said they’d be in the wrong to do that and… here they are 😭
August 18, 20231 yr Author Yessssss!!! I need her to keep Hasim safe tho. Let’s target Jag and Blue (and get Blue out this week)
August 18, 20231 yr End Of Week 2 Ranking: 1.) Mecole 2.) Cory 3.) Cirie 4.) Felicia 5.) Matt (#Justice4Matt) 6.) America 7.) Izzy 8.) Blue 9.) Hisam 10.) Jag 11.) Bowie Jane 12.) Red 13.) Jared 14.) Reilly 15.) Cameron y'all non feeders are missing Meme's storage room rants :drama: she's an icon I fear
August 18, 20231 yr I don't watch the feeds, so this ranking is based on the TV show plus the stuff I read from the feeds on Twitter: 1 Cirie 2 Ms Felicia 3 Matt 4 Izzy Fields 5 Reilly (okay her HOH week was messy as hell but she's proven to be quite the sweetheart really I think) 6 Mecole 7 Cory 8 Jared 9 America 10 Hisam (perfect TV villain - not a horrible person a la BB24's villains, but so fun to root against + enjoy watching) 11 Blue 12 Jag 13 Red 14 Bowie Jane 15 Cameron (he's not even that bad, just a bit... odd) Honestly nobody I dislike this season (the racist aside). Bowie/Red are unremarkable atm, Blue and Jag feel difficult to root for as they're giving me Foutte vibes of being about 3 steps behind everyone else but they're perfectly nice.
August 18, 20231 yr Author Heading into Week 3, A few thoughts. Top Picks Of The Moment: 01: Cirie - I think the feedback for Cirie this week is that Big Brother is a long ass game. The vote flip this week was unnecessary and really only harms her alliance. 02: Matt - I feel so bad for him, it’s almost like he was casted as an alternate, made the main cast and they completely forgot about any type of accommodation. Maybe they were hoping his chip wouldn’t be pulled for Veto this week, but it was, and I don’t believe for a single moment they made the right accommodations. I’m just as triggered for Matt this season as I was for Taylor’s experience last night. 03: Hasim- WHAT A WEEK lol. I put Hasim high this week because, well, this was the week of Hasim! God what a shit social player, I think everyone in the house has their backs up against him at this point. I don’t see a path for him making Jury unless The Professors win and keep him safe (which they should - great shield) but they will dump him as soon as the other side wins. 04: Mecole - she’s iconic on the feeds, but I want more on the main show! She looked absolutely stunning last night. 05: America - alright I need America and Mecole to start working together ASAP! 06: Izzy shes had a great week by the sounds of things? Starting to become a voice of reason and has started checking people.. what is happening?! Maybe Izzy won’t end up being the mess I think she will be! 07: Felicia - SHE GOT HER BUTTER! Real Butter! She’s such a feed queen, really she is the light of the season. Probably the best older cast member we’ve had in a long time - she’s really jumped in with both feet and I’m impressed! Mid Tier: 08: Jag - aka this weeks Zordon. What is with this twist?? Was it really needed?? 09: Blue - a bit of a flop oop. 10: Jared - what a week, went from thinking he was HOH to fumbling picking someone for safety and again getting unnecessary blood on his hands. He should have just sent Felicia, that’s a pretty unbiased choice. 11: Cory - I absolutely think he should be higher, but I need more. He’s in a great spot, likely will do well in this game, but for now I’m bored. 12: Bowie - still fodder 13: Red - k Bottom: 14: Cameron - No.
August 18, 20231 yr omg YES blue and jag are giving BB20 Hive vibes so I don’t get why they’re getting so much hate? Well I can think of a HUGE reason why but still Also the fact that I have Meme and Cory so high in my rankings compared to limited feeders shows how poorly edited the episodes have been. It started with the Luke episode but then cutting out a large chunk of Hisam’s veto speech? Only showing the top 3 times to cover their ass for not accommodating Matt? Hell, Izzy never got a prominent spotlight in the episodes until NOW, and she’s not only surgically tied to Cirie, but has played the most aggressive game so far IMO. Production, what gives???
August 18, 20231 yr I like Blue and Jag but they do give Hive vibes, obviously in that case the other side was vile so you’d obviously root for the Hive whereas the problem here is that we’re all rooting for the other side to them so them being nice but not really the best at the game is much more of a determinant than it was for say Rockstar or Bayleigh. There’s definitely a huge disparity between what’s actually happening and the episodes I agree, Izzy is such an entertaining and chaotic character with an aggressive game and the episodes make if seem like she is pretty much invisible. This is the best cast in years where it isn’t just one or two carrying things, it’s an actual split house and so many interesting factors at play where things could pretty much turn upside down, it’s a shame the actual episodes aren’t showing what an amazing season this is.
August 18, 20231 yr I couldn't even root for the Hive / Foutte, they were just so piss poor at the game not that I really enjoyed everyone in Level 6, it was only really Tyler / Kaycee and I tolerated the rest to keep them safe (it worked). Haleigh and Rockstar were great characters but flush otherwise. Jag/Blue/etc seem to be more put together than them at least but they're definitely giving those vibes so far.
August 19, 20231 yr Author I think CBS needs to realize that what draws people into Big Brother is the social element. Now that we have The Challenge on CBS I was hoping they would un-bloat the show with (dare I say it) more basic competitions. That last off-site HOH was cute, but, just... so long. I would have loved for 90-Minute Episodes like what they're doing with Amazing Race and Survivor. I need them to focus more on what's going on socially and strategically. Let's be honest the Wall Comps are a bit boring these days (PRESSURE COOKER NEXT WEEK THO OMG). OTEV is great - but Big Brother is hardly known for what its competitions actually are.
August 19, 20231 yr Jag won veto BLESSSS and with talks of possibly nomming Red instead of Hisam, the feeds are gonna be GOOD this weekend

Agreed for sure, when you already know who’s HOH or who’s won veto if you’re online even slightly, you don’t need to have 20 out of 40 minutes of the episode taken up by comps that are usually pretty similar. There’s so much chaos going on with the social game that’s more interesting than it’s been in years, but on the main show we aren’t really seeing that. Pressure Cooker will be amazing though I cannot WAIT. If Hisam survives, he is going to live in that box all week
