Posted December 8, 200618 yr 01 Corrinne Bailey Rae - Well a huge album and a big single shows that they did get this one right. Though she may turn out to be more like Katie Melua as far as the charts go with singles struggling but selling loads of albums. 02 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Touted as the American Arctic Monkeys after they found success on Myspace throughout the world. The album did alright for an act of their size when released just missing the top 20 but all they've done all year is release 2 limited edition singles. Had they bothered to promote it could have been better. Shame though, it's a great album. 03 The Feeling - Think we can safely say this was a good prediction. 4 top 20 singles (3 top 10) and an album which has sold a lot too. 04 Plan B - From a genre that's not as popular as it was before was always going to hinder success. Never made the top 40 but only one single released. 05 Guillemots - I think this is a success to some extent. They've had bucketloads of critical acclaim and their album did stick around unlike most indie acts who chart between 11 and 20 and fall rapidly in the next few weeks 06 Sway - Critical acclaim again including a Mercury Nomination, but as with Plan B - from a genre that's not as popular is it was. 07 Chris Brown - Run It made number 2 at the beginning of the year but he's been quiet since then. Thank God! 08 Marcos Hernandez - :tumbleweed: 09 Kubb - Touted as the new Keane. Luckily the British Public decided one Keane was enough and let them flop. Single Grow was never off the airwaves but only just scraped the top 20 because it was $h!te 10 The Automatic - Had one monster hit, pun intended, and an album which has done alright. But I doubt they will ever match the success of Monster. Raoul may be lucky to go top 40, certainly won't beat its original pick. So who did they miss? The only ones I can really think of are Gnarls Barkley and The Kooks. No one else who's broken through last year had really done anything a year ago... Next year I'd expect Klaxons and The Horrors in there :puke2: and Hopefully Air Traffic and The Hours  Edited December 8, 200618 yr by RabbitFurCoat
December 8, 200618 yr Well they missed Lily Allen, The View, Fratellis, James Morrison, Paolo Nutini & Sandi Thom for starters. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt regarding Dirty Pretty Things & The Raconteurs as those acts nucleus came from existing groups. But they have done better, than they have most years....
December 8, 200618 yr I remember when they had The Ordinary Boys for 2004  then again they did ok that year. ^_^

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt regarding Dirty Pretty Things & The Raconteurs as those acts nucleus came from existing groups. But they have done better, than they have most years.... But none of them had released anything this time last year bar Sandi Thom. Every single act they choose in every year has released something or is about to release something. All of the acts you mentioned bar Sandi had done nothing last year!
December 8, 200618 yr Author 01 Corrinne Bailey Rae - Like A Star had already made the top 40 when this list was released... 02 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Had released Is This Love? 03 The Feeling - Had already released Fill My Little World 04 Plan B - Lots of hype and a version of The Prodigy's No Good that had been going round 05 Guillemots - Already released an EP and Trains To Brazil 06 Sway - Already released Up Your Speed. 07 Chris Brown - Huge amount of hype from America 08 Marcos Hernandez - I'm sure they did have a reason for including him  09 Kubb - Already released a couple of songs .Wicked Soul might have been one 10 The Automatic - Already released Recover
December 8, 200618 yr I agree The Kooks were a big miss, as they'd already had a couple of top 40 hits in 2005. Did Gnarls Barkley have anything out in 2005 or was there any big hype? All i can remember was them appearing early in 2006, couldn't remember anything about them in 2005.
December 8, 200618 yr Zane Lowe was playing Crazy months before it came out... Ah thanks for clearing that up, ive never really listened to Zane Lowe before. Does he regularly play songs months before release? It he does, i'd be interested to listen to him more often.
December 8, 200618 yr Ah thanks for clearing that up, ive never really listened to Zane Lowe before. Does he regularly play songs months before release? It he does, i'd be interested to listen to him more often. Normally he does. He generally hypes up songs about two/three months before they're released and then he just stops playing them and moves on to new stuff to hype up. I expect Just Jack to feature pretty high on the new BBCs sound of 2007. ^_^
