Birmingham chairman David Gold has branded Jose Mourinho's call for Premiership reserve teams to play in the Football League "disrespectful."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger backed Mourinho's plea for Chelsea reserves to play in the Football League.

But Gold said: "Jose often talks about requiring respect, but this is disrespectful to Football League clubs.

"It's not the Football League's problem if his players aren't getting enough competition," Gold told BBC Five Live.

Mourinho claimed English football should follow the example of Spain, where big clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are allowed to field their B teams lower down the professional football ladder.

The B teams cannot be promoted, and they are not allowed to enter Spanish cup competitions.

Where would he expect his team to enter the League?

Mourinho had said: "I would love to see it.

"I can tell for sure that if that happened players like Lassana Diarra, Mikel John Obi, Salomon Kalou, when they are not selected for the first team, they have a competition to play in a different level. So they should have a look."

Wenger echoed Mourinho's call, saying: "It's a very good idea.

"I've said it many times because it happens in France. In France there is two divisions difference and you cannot come up.

"It gives them competition against teams who are fighting for the top level and instead of giving players out on loan, you can get them good competition."

But Gold said: "That may be fine for Jose and I'm sure it would be nice for him if he had three or four teams playing in the League.

"Where would he expect his team to enter the League?

"To allow it to happen, straight away you would have to dump a club into the Conference to make room."

One of the worst ideas ever. :manson:

Gold is exacly right. This would be very dis-respectuful to lower league teams, and it would make a bit of a mockery out of the leagues below the Premiership.

I think its very selfish what Mourhino is saying, as its his fault that a lot of his players don't play often enough. Your only allowed to field 11 players on a football pitch at once so what is the point of buying 23+ world class players when you know half of them won't play? I mean its not that hard to go and organise a few local friendlys during the season. I'm sure a lot of the lower league sides would jump at the chance Chelsea, Arsenal etc etc play at their ground even if it is midway through the season when they would play one another.

Eugh how $h!tty would that be? -_- Having Chelsea winning the Premiership and Championship, Manchester United winning League One and Arsenal winning League Two, year in, year out? No thanks. -_-

England's league is far better than France, Spain or Italy anyway.

Chelsea and Man U's reserves are not leagues above Arsenal's.

That idea will never happen though. Anyway, will you have to transfer your own reserve to your first team if the manager wants to play them or what??

They probably are leagues above.

Erm, no they aren't, you probably don't know a single Chelsea or Arsenal reserve. We have people like Bendtner who can be world class. Who have Chelsea got, that football icon reject.

Chelsea and Man U's reserves are not leagues above Arsenal's.

I was only using them as an example. :manson:

Go on then, name the Chelsea reserves that are so good. And don't copy and paste the list off the Chelsea website.
