Biography

Becky Hill

With her highly resonant voice and R&B-influenced style, Becky Hill first came to the public's attention competing on series one of The Voice UK. Ultimately reaching the show's semifinal round, Hill emerged a fan favorite and became the first Voice UK contestant to score a number one single when "Gecko (Overdrive)," her collaboration with Dutch EDM star Oliver Heldens, topped the U.K. singles chart in June 2014.

Born on February 14, 1994 in Bewdley, Worcestershire, England, Hill was no stranger to music when she first auditioned for the then new The Voice UK in 2012. As a teenager, she had sung with the acoustic rock & soul group Shaking Trees, which created some local buzz and received several plays on BBC Radio. On The Voice UK she made it to the semifinal with her powerful renditions of R&B songs by the likes of John Legend and others, before being eliminated. By her own admission, she was a novice in the music industry game and it took her 18 months to finally get a record deal. In the meantime, however, her sultry, soulful, older-than-her-years voice was highly sought-after by dance artists looking for feature vocalists. Her first recorded appearance, on British drum'n'bass artist Wilkinson's single "Afterglow," went to number eight on the U.K. singles chart. She then appeared on Rudimental's single "Powerless," singing with them at several U.K. festivals in 2013, including Glastonbury.

Following her success with Heldens, Hill worked extensively with London-based dance producer MNEK and issued her debut solo single, "Caution to the Wind." It showcased a shift toward a more electronica-influenced sound, with twinkling melodies and production reminiscent of Four Tet. The Eko EP appeared in 2017, and included the single "Unpredictable." The single "Sunrise in the East" followed a year later. In 2019, Hill issued a pair of upbeat singles, "I Could Get Used to This," which featured Weiss, and "Wish You Well," which featured Sigala. - Apple Music

David Guetta

From his early days playing Chicago house in French discotheques to his long reign atop the pop charts, David Guetta has revolutionised dance music multiple times. Born in Paris in 1967, Guetta began DJing in the late ’80s, when the shimmery sound known as the “French touch” was taking shape. By the early 2000s, at his F*** Me I’m Famous parties in Ibiza, he had translated that melodic style into a clever merger of pop sass and club swagger. He parlayed that mix into pure platinum with hits like 2003’s “Just for One Day”, an energy-stoking rework of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, and 2002’s “Just a Little More Love”, a sultry bump-and-grind featuring R&B singer Chris Willis. That versatility—along with a knack for killer hooks—would become one of Guetta’s principal calling cards, and as EDM exploded across pop culture at the end of the 2000s, Guetta’s shapeshifting style led the way, yielding ecstatic affirmations (“When Love Takes Over”), feisty come-ons (“Sexy Bitch”) and unstoppable singalongs (The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”, which Guetta produced). Since then, his collaborations (Sia, Nicki Minaj) have kept listeners guessing even as his choruses—triumphant as a bottle of bubbly blowing its top—have proven one of pop’s most dependable pleasures. - Apple Music

"Watermelon Sugar" still sounds good, except it goes on for about 30 seconds too long.
I think "Remember" might end up being Becky's biggest hit as a lead artist! :o Happy for her, such a bop!
Becky and Mabel having albums hovering in top 40 on album chart for years and can't go top 20 with their leads.... Just shows how the album chart is a failure.

This isn't Becky's lead, it's the 5th single

Wow, Becky's outcharted her last single in just the first week. It's my first time hearing this and it is sounding ok but kinda basic. I preferred the new Mabel single tbh.

Biography

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin once joked that the two biggest challenges in his life were trying to follow Radiohead and trying to follow Brad Pitt. The Pitt reference was personal, of course—Martin had been married to Pitt’s former fiancée Gwyneth Paltrow—but his self-assessment still felt remarkably apt: Coldplay isn’t just one of the most popular bands in the world, but also torchbearers for a kind of mainstream art-rock whose roots reach back through Radiohead, U2, Pink Floyd and even The Beatles. Yes, the music is anthemic enough to fill arenas—“Clocks”, “Speed of Sound”, “Paradise”, “A Sky Full of Stars”—but detailed and atmospheric, too, stretching the conventions of modern rock without ever losing the emotional thread.

Formed in London in the mid-’90s, the band debuted with 2000’s Parachutes. Seasons have changed—the arty experiments of 2008’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, the electro-rush of 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, the eclecticism of 2019’s Everyday Life—but the core of their sound has been consistent: Propulsive, uplifting, grand but vulnerable. In crowded bars and lonely bedrooms, the effect is more or less the same: At the end of the day, Coldplay came for the heart. - Apple Music

Biography

Raised on Eminem and 50 Cent, Australian rapper Masked Wolf developed a rap style that paired astute, often personal lyricism with clean production values. He slowly built a listenership with a series of stand-alone tracks, hitting streaming numbers in the multimillions with his 2021 single "Astronaut in the Ocean." Masked Wolf was born Harry Michael and grew up in Sydney. By age 13, he was writing his own rap songs, inspired by favorites like Eminem and Kevin Gates. As he grew up, he discovered other rap influences, and worked some of Drake's cool-headed poise and the sinister atmospheres of American trap production into his songs. Early tracks like 2018's "Speed Racer" and 2019's "Vibin'" gave way to tracks that addressed topics such as mental health and peer pressure on songs like "Numb." Masked Wolf's fame grew exponentially with the release of "Astronaut in the Ocean" in January 2021. The song quickly accrued more than 75 million streams in under a month and set the scene for his music to reach a new level. - Apple Music

Biography

The way Lil Nas X tells it, it sounds simple, almost mystical. “I was just kinda bored,” he told Apple Music. “I wanted to put something up. So that’s what I did.” Not only did the “it” in question—“Old Town Road”—become a global phenomenon (and 2019 Apple Music Award winner for Song of the Year), it prompted surprisingly pertinent conversations about how we define and classify music. Was it country? Was it rap? Cowboy anthem or LGBTQ camp? TikTok novelty or legitimate pop song?

It was, of course, all those things, and pity those who couldn’t live with the contradictions. Born Montero Lamar Hill in 1999, Nas grew up outside Atlanta but came of age on the internet, turning to social media and meme-making out of boredom and teenage loneliness—feelings compounded by his struggle to resolve his sexuality. (He later became the first artist to come out while his record was at No. 1, though he’d figured that between the rhinestones and rainbows and the general vibe, it would’ve been obvious.) “I didn’t know it was gonna do what it did,” he said of “Old Town Road” and its companion EP, 7. “But it did what it did.” - Apple Music
