The record-breaking fastest-selling debut Arctic Monkeys album 'Whatever Poeple Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' may have been slightly overlooked by much of the music press in the later stages of the year, especially when "Top Albums Of The Year' lists start appearing, but the one magazine you probably expect it from, do the unexpected...

NME named the WPSIATWIN the number 1 album of the year. Of course, everybody was expecting NME to go the full circle andtry to turn the nation against the Arctic Monkeys (which they will never succeed to do should they every try anyway) but they stayed loyal to the band and the album, which earlier in the year was given 5th 'Best Debut Album Ever' so the NME couldn't really NOT put them there, could they?

Don't worry though, come early next year the worst review ever will be waiting to be published when the second album is released.

The full list of NME's Top 50 Albums is as follows:

Hang on, I may be wrong here, but didn't the Monkey's album come out in 2005...?

Nope. ;) It came out midway through January this year, but there was a lot of hype around them from around the end of October until February so it was an easy mistake to make.

Okay, fair enough mate, I just thought it might've been the NME trying to pull their usual fast one.... I think it's pretty damn disgraceful that Morrissey's album wasn't placed higher.....

And you must've got that Flaming Lips album title wrong surely, "Yoshimi..." was their previous album, "At War With The Mystics" was the album they released this year..... Again, the Lips should've been a lot higher, Top 10 anyway....

My Chemical Romance a Top 10 album??? Are they joking.....? Biggest pile of sh!t I heard all year...

The list was copied from Mardy-Bum.com. :P So either someone of the site has made a typo error or the palce were they got their original source of info must have made a mistake.

I think they've made a few mistakes as well. -_-

The Strokes album being one of them. Its a decent enough album but it shouldn't be as Top 10. There have being far better albums this year IMO.

21. The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers

20. The Streets - The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living

I have all those ^_^ No suprises that the Arctics came on top and it deserves to probably considering out of what would be in NME they would be the best. However it's my second favourite album personally :P

Isn't the Yeah Yeah Yeahs album called Show Your Bones?

As well as been named NME's album of the year for 2006 it has also been named album of the year by Cross Beat (Japanese Magazine)

And as well as that Hot Press have also announced it their album of the year.

:cheer:

I own these from that list:

50. The Kooks - Inside In Inside Out

42. The Automatic - Not Accepted Anywhere

15. Thom Yorke - The Eraser

13. Panic! At The Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out

12. The Killers - Sam's Town

1. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

Excellent :cheer:

It would have been a bit weird had they not have given Arctic Monkeys best album award as they have backed Arctic Monkeys to very extreme extents during 2005/2006. :) Arctic Monkeys did deserve to be #1 imo anyway. :D

There are only a hadful of them that I would rate 'above-average' albums. Arctics onviously being one.

47. Wolfmother - Wolfmother

43. Beck - The Information

39. The Young Knives - Voices of Animals and Men

37. be your own PET - be your own PET

35. iForward, Russia! - Give Me a Wall

7. The Long Blondes - Someone to Drive You Home

2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever To Tell

1. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

^Being the only ones that I own/have heard that would get a decent rating from me.

Is The Long Blondes album any good.

I hated them when I first heard them but i've heard another couple of tracks from them and i've grown to like them. :o

It's not excellent but it's not bad. It's one of those were the singles shine above all the other album tracks. I'd probs give it 6 out of 10.

I hated the first single I heard by them, so if you say that the album is one were the singles are much better than the overall album then I think its best I give it a miss.

It does tend to mould into one big ball of fillers after a while. Considering I liked all the singles I guess they stand out more for me.
