Posted December 10, 200618 yr Here is the shortlist for this year: Equestrian star Zara Phillips, Golfer Darren Clarke, Tennis player Andy Murray, Boxers Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton, Cyclist Nicole Cooke, Cricketer Monty Panesar, Gymnast Beth Tweddle, Darts champion Phil Taylor Formula One's Jenson Button, Personally I think Darren Clarke has got the award sewn in the bag this year, plus the Ryder Cup is about the only major thing Britan has done any good in this year.
December 10, 200618 yr Author Why did Walcott win the young one?! :manson: Who else could have won it though?
December 10, 200618 yr These were the two he was up against Paul is already the number one player in England aged just 16, and practices six days a week. In 2006 he took the Olympic champion Ryu Seung Min to seven games and three match points, something no player was able to do in the Athens Olympics in 2004. Elizabeth is registered blind and won a silver medal at the IPC Athletics World Championships. She would have won a second silver had she not been disqualified because her guide runner (who has not been with her long) not crossed the finish line slightly before her. The table tennis guy definitely did more than Walcott based on that. He went to the World Cup and didn't play and has played about 5 hours of football for Arsneal. Really deserving :manson:
December 10, 200618 yr Why did Walcott win the young one?! :manson: Well he nearly won England the World Cup single-handedly  Oh no sorry, that's in 2014.

Really deserving :manson: Looking at the two he was up against your right. The table tennis guy should have won it. -_-
December 10, 200618 yr Phil Taylor ??? wtf ? Sport is physical competition  the only physical competition a darts player has is lifting his pint glass to his mouth and getting his fat ass off the seat, darts is NOT a sport its a game IMHO
December 10, 200618 yr Author Fabregas should have won, or is it england only? British nationalities only I think.
December 10, 200618 yr Oh I see, there's no British sportsman worthy of an award, England flopped in every sport. :manson:
December 10, 200618 yr http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42336000/jpg/_42336937_zarapa300.jpg Well Done to Zara Phillips (World & European 3-Day Event Champion) winning the Sports Personality Of The Year award. Golfer Darren Clarke was 2nd & Britain's first ever World Gymnastics Champion Beth Tweddle was 3rd.
December 10, 200618 yr Author Should the horse not have won the award ? Congrats to her though It takes a great deal of amount of skill to be able to do able to do what she does. You've gotta give credit were its due.
December 11, 200618 yr What a joke  What Zara Philips done then? If she wasnt in the royal family would she of won  There should be only ONE winner and that Joe Calzaghe After 42 fights, 42 wins and 31 knockouts, Joe has proved his is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world and the UK's top boxer. He is currently the longest reigning world champion and has held his WBO super middleweight title for 9 years whilst colledting the IBF and IBO world titles along the way. He has defeated other previously unbeaten world champions and as an amature won 3 consecutive ABA titles at 3 different weight classes and only lost one amature fight, the oppositions father was the referee. Therefore, as boxing is a sport where you can lose your title, unbeaten record and good health in a split second or a punch, in my eyes the real winner is Joe Calzaghe.
December 11, 200618 yr well Zara Phillips did bring something back from Germany unlike another team we know of ^_^
December 11, 200618 yr It takes a great deal of amount of skill to be able to do able to do what she does. You've gotta give credit were its due. Yeah but no matter what her skill she could not have done it without an able horse ;)if the horse was slow or not good at jumping she would have won nothing so given she relied a lot on the horse she should have got the team award with the horse as opposed to the individual award :)

December 11, 200618 yr I agree that Joe Calzaghe should have won, mind you I voted for 13 times World Champion Phil "The Power" Taylor. Unlike Equestrian sports, anyone can play Darts, and an awful lot of people play the sport at pub/club, county & international level, yet to manage to dominate and stay on top of the Sport like "The Power" has done over the last 15 years is a huge achievement that deserves to be recognised IMHO. (plus, it is a lot less boring to watch than Snooker....)
