It's here, after 2 years we've got the new season of the search to find drag's next Supermonster! 10 queens, including Drag Race's Jade Jolie, are in the cast. The first challenge is a horror icon design challenge, where the queens must re-interpret the look of a horror icon from film, TV, books, comics or video games.

Just watched episode 1, it definitely feels bigger in scale than it has been before, I think Shudder is investing a lot into it which is great for the show. I love that right off the bat there was the twist with the maze thing where they said if you didn't get through you'd be exterminated, imagine if they had actually done that episode 1!

 

As for the challenge, the judging for the tops was right I thought. Asturd winning I get but I'd have given it to HoSo as I think her inspiration was really unexpected, and she nailed it. Sigourney was great too and she is easily my fave so far along with HoSo, you can tell she is going to bring everything and attack this whole competition. I'm saddened that the others seem a bit muted and hostile to the fact she is there, Dragula has always been more inclusive than Drag Race, and so it should be, so I hope there isn't a gatekeeping storyline where they question her being there as a cis woman. She clearly puts so much thought into her art and is every bit as worthy as anybody else there!

 

Betty avoiding the bottom was a choice when the challenge was to INTERPRET a horror icon, she was just a costume shop version of Elvira I felt. "More horrific" and it was just like... some fangs? Also Merrie's look was just ugly, yes she did go a bit more campy and sold the look well enough, but I don't think that was enough to save what was an atrocious look. I'd have put those two in the bottom personally with Zav/Formalda in the low placement. Formalda I did get being bottom because she just didn't go as far as other looks and doesn't have the performance or presence, she would perhaps have been better off doing a later season as there's so much potential there, but I thought the look fit the brief more than Merrie or Betty's did. I got more cosplay from those two, which the Boulets specifically said they didn't want!

 

Zavaleta is just exhausting though, so I wish she had gone had she not killed the extermination. I really don't like her one bit at the moment, she is so self-aware and edited in terms of being the villain, I feel like she knows she will get airtime that way so everything is so calculated to achieve that. I know you need a bit of drama, but Dragula usually mostly deviates from that so I hope it's not an overarching story for the season. I know it's only been one episode but I don't see any likeability or humanity, she is just constantly trying to grab attention, being nasty and tearing everyone down.

 

Also the spoilers were wrong, I was trying to avoid but caved and it had Merrie going first, so I was SHOOK! I wonder if everything is totally wrong, because there's also meant to be

an 11th contestant (Dahli from S2 and Resurrection

so I wonder if that is even gonna happen :lol:

Jade and Merrie were by FAR the worst? Very odd judging.

They're leaning WAY too much into the drama this season I feel, I feel so bad for Sigourney! Her drag is so elevated and polished, she's so talented, and she's subject to a torrent of what I can only describe as jealous misogyny. And she really tried to pull the team together this week and they just used her to put her in a shit team for a mess that would be "good TV". It's almost like they've turned a talent female performer into a stunt casting storyline, which I'd expect from Drag Race not Dragula.

 

Thank god Merrie was exterminated this week, she brought absolutely nothing! Pretty much all of her looks were bad and she wasn't at all entertaining/funny either, she was just loud and frankly nasty.Jade is giving nothing at all too, she will be lucky to last another week at this rate. I have to wonder if she was less ready than she thought, and being on TV again brought back memories she didn't want to come back so she's in her head :(

 

HoSo or Sigourney have to win, Dahli and Saint are slaying too though.

I'm desperate to find the music that was used in the latest floor show (episode 6) but can't find it anywhere (and Shazam is bringing up nothing). Can anyone help???

Absolutely in love with this season, think the right person went home and correct top 4. I do love them but I would put Saint 4th for a top 3 of Dahli, Hoso and Sigourney !

This season is so so good! It's been a while since at this stage of a competition, I've genuinely not wanted any of them to go home. Zavaleta was probably right to go but I still felt like her journey was brilliant, the fact I hated her right at the start andwe saw such growth from her once the trouble petered out (ie once Merrie and to a lesser extent Betty went, really). Sigourney finally broke free of glamour, it's just a shame that it didn't quite go right, and Saint/HoSo killed the challenge imo plus HoSo had the best floorshow this week. Dahli definitely stumbled but for me but he has been killing it this whole time otherwise and is my winner at this point, so I'm glad he stayed. Any of the four could win and I'd be happy but I feel they will give it to Saint? The fact they said this week that perhaps they need to show someone who is lower energy and a different approach could win just made me think that idk, plus they're giving the same notes each week but don't seem to mind her not listening to that? I do get it tbh, I don't think it's Saint giving no energy, it's that she has such a different and refreshing outlook on her art, she just knows what works for her and has never bent to that, but it's not been boring to me, so it's working.

I'm tempted to get tickets to the tour based on how strong this cast is! I think if both Hoso & Sigourney make it then it'll justify the cost of the ticket and then some. They're two of my faves from any franchise this year even.

Dahli has been exposed for grooming a 15 year old on Reddit, the guy has posted messages and has pics with Dahli and shared the story, how awful for him it was horrible to read and hear about :(

 

I wonder if they've filmed different endings?! Dahli to me feels like the obvious winner, although it's close enough that the final floorshow could swing it to one of the others, idk :/

Finale thoughts - I'll spoiler:

 

 

Glad Dahli won! HoSo's horror was probably my favourite of the night along with Dahli's filth, both of those exemplified each tenet of Dragula in such a different way than you'd expect. I think HoSo edged it in the finale for me, as Dahli had the worst horror look then Dahli/HoSo were top 2 for glamour and filth for me. Dahli killed the whole season though and was my winner for most of the season so I'm thrilled.

 

Happy with the winner, kind of. Don't really know what the point is in inviting people back again and again until they win. But they were very strong throughout the season, and they seem to really love what they do which is quite infectious to watch. I'd be fuming if I was Saint though... after feeling not good enough the first time and then winning an All Stars to come back and compete on a regular season and lose to the person you beat in the All Stars, hahahhaha!!!

 

Hoso absolutely smashed the finale though. They had the best runway each time out of all three. To be so raw about cancer and racism against the East in her horror/filth was so interesting to watch (& important, ofc!).

 

Sigourney is my contestant of the season. Loved her attitude throughout and she was just so f***ing cool. I hope it's not the last we see of her even though I'm not sure how much more she can give either tbh, lol.

Dahli and Hoso KILLED that finale. Must be 6 of my favourite ever looks. I think Dahli was more consistent throughout the season but Hoso's highs were better for me (the Hairy Monster look and the Devil one in particular).

Sigourney was a real let down int he finale, she kinda went on a downward trajectory throughout the whole competition I really feel like we could have had a top 3. An incredible season overall though I just hope the next one is a little less hateful as much as we love the drama

I got so bored of Sigourney towards the end, every single week she just didn't listen that much and barely moved away from glamour. Yes she was treated horribly by the others and yes her looks were polished, but there was always too much glamour no matter what was asked of her. All 3 of her final floorshow looks could have been glamour, she just put the bare minimum of filth in her filth look.
