Well the first one looks and sounds like a right weirdo.

Someone showed me his myspace....

Yeah, they said that about Colin Stagg as well though (the bloke the pigs tried to fit up in the Rachel Nickell murder).... Last time I looked, 'being a weirdo' wasn't a criminal offence mate.... Let's see some HARD evidence please.....

Why do they release names in cases liek this? They get arrested and everyone thinks it's them... Then when they're proven innocent they're still known as the guy who was arrested over 5 murders... <_<

It's a bad idea I reckon, and it's only really recently that this started happening, in years gone by it would usually always be reported as 'a man/woman is helping police with their enquiries' or 'police have arrested a suspect', no names, no bloody life histories until AFTER a person was tried and found guilty... I really think that we should go back to that, I dont like this whole 'media frenzy' bullsh!t.... In the worse case scenario all this achieves is to seriously prejudice any upcoming trial, cos just how the hell are you supposed to find 12 totally subjective jurors who aren't gonna be in the least bit swayed by the totally sensationalist reporting....? They'd have to be drafted in from Outer Mongolia or summat....

Yes, someone has been charged with the murders  Thank god for that, normal life can (to some extent) now resume. And the families of the girls will see some justice hopefully...

I didn't say I was celebrating did I? It's just a relief that my mum and sister can finally walk out of the house without fear of being strangled.

Why would your mum or sister be scared to leave the house...? Are they prostitutes...? This guy was very specifically targetting prostitutes, so no one else has really any reason to feel fear... And again, you're assuming it's the right guy, if it's the wrong bloke and another prossie turns up dead at some point, then all hell's gonna break loose...

And by the way, the smiley you put up in your post implied a sense of celebration...

No they're not prostitutes, but everyone here felt a sense of danger - even men. I'm not sure you understand how finding 5 bodies in a week effects people in the immediate vacinity, this man they've caught lives a 5 minute walk from me ffs...

And yes I am assuming it's the right man, but like I said, life can now (to SOME EXTENT) return to normal.

When they find a serial killer in your local area, I will allow you to use what smilies you like to express your relief. If people feel like celebrating, I think it's their own right personally. Not that anyone is yet of course, we need to wait until January for that...

Dont talk to me like I dont know about how crime affects a neighbourhood, I lived in Hackney for two years ffs.... You want violent crime...? We had it all mate... Drive-by shootings, stabbings, drug crime, rape, the lot (and quite a lot of it happening about two minutes round the corner from where I lived..), you ever hear of the "Murder Mile End Road"? I lived pretty near that... The area I live in now, Camden, a woman's body was found cut up into little pieces in a suitcase in the Camden Lock canal not so long ago, a bloke was stabbed to death on the Camden High Street a few weeks back, etc, etc I could easily go on and describe even MORE fukked up sh!t that occurs around my manor on a semi-regular basis, but funnily enough none of that seems to make front page headlines or media hype does it....? Dont even assume that I dont know what I'm talking about mate.... I don't let it get to me, I dont feel fear or paranoia because if I went around with a victim mentality than I'd probably end up being one. The facts are, the majority of these crimes that I talked about are within a certain section of the community (drugs gangs, turf wars, organised crime, etc) and if you're not involved in that sort of lifestyle, chances are you wont be affected by it, same thing here, the bloke was targeting prossies, if you aint a prossie, nothing to be scared of, end of story... No need for paranoia...

Alls I'm saying is is that it's a bit premature to be celebrating until after the bloke is found guilty...

All of that stuff goes on in my neighbourhood too, but when was the last time they found five bodies in a week in your local area? That was what I said after all. It happens very rarely, hence the media "hype".

People in Ipswich have every right to be "paranoid". Tell me, if we all had no reason to be slightly afraid for our safety (which obviously a big strong non-prossie like yourself wouldn't be) then why were the police giving away safety alarms to women? And at one point, it was widely circulated here by POLICE that a non-prostiture could be next, so tbh in this case I do have more of a sense of what is happening than you. You won't accept that, but that's your problem.

I just object to the implication that some murders and crimes seem more report-worthy than others, it's bullsh!t, murder is murder and every life is precious, and the way that the media seems to fetishise serial killers in particular is something I find especially distasteful. Alls I'm saying is, the more sensationalist the reporting, the more unreasonable fear and panic is created when the risks of anything actually occurring to someone just going about their daily life are pretty fukkin' remote... There's a difference between being aware of potential dangers and just being totally paranoid... The Police have got to say stuff like that so people are aware, but it's only the high risk groups that really need to alter their lifestyles... Doing stupid sh!t like walking the streets alone in the middle of the night, getting into cars with punters is clearly something that people shouldn't be doing, other than that, I'd say you were pretty safe from this character...

I actually read a report in one of Suffolk's local rags that basically said "this sort of thing is not meant to happen here"... Like, there's actually supposed to be a place where the murder of young women is meant to occur....??? Susanne Moore (someone you may have heard of, a famous newspaper columnist who hails from Ipswich..) wrote a good piece basically rubbishing the idea some people have of Suffolk being this cosy little part of 'idyllic England'...

Now all of that ^^ I do agree with :D Especially the idea people have of Suffolk being sleepy and untouched and beautiful, it's nothing like it

Anyway, I have enough of talking about this in my real life without discussing it online as well. I'm sure you'll appreciate that ^_^ Iwas just making a point.

Yeah, sorry mate, I always get a bit teed off when people go on and say daft stuff like "I'm scared to leave the house" because of something that is very unlikely to happen to them (let's face it, you're more likely to be mugged and stabbed by a street robber than be the victim of a serial killer, but no one ever lets the far more vociferous problem of street crime stop them from doing stuff....), but I do understand what you were trying to say...

so if 'the bishop' is innocent what will happen to him now?? will he get his job back his page? any compensation from the press?
