Baby Don’t Dance:

 

One of their more weaker songs for me. Part of me was happy when this was canceled as a single as I always thought and still do think Only In My Dreams was far superior and deserving of being a single. I don’t mind it now, it’s alright but I only ever really listen to it when it comes on shuffle. I don’t really go out of my way to listen to it.

 

But yes it has grown on me in the 20 years since it’s release. I actually think this is the closest sounding song from Gold to what we got from 2017 on.

Only In My Dreams:

 

I love this one, one of their best album tracks and I wish it got released as a single. In a way it sounds early Steps kind of like Steptacular era Steps. I’ll regularly seek this out on Spotify or iTunes to listen along with a few other non singles from them.

Chain Reaction:

 

The cover song I never knew I needed from Steps. Absolutely one of their top level cover versions for me. Loved it from the moment I heard it and the fact that the vocals are more evenly spread (minus Lee) was nice to see for a change. Their last single in Australia before the split. I remember buying it along with Whenever, Wherever by Shakira when I managed to find it in the shops.

Words Are Not Enough:

 

Hmm, I’m not really sure how I feel on this one. I don’t hate it but I do t love it. It’s not the worst thing they’ve released. Whilst I wouldn’t have chosen it as a single I guess it fits with the time of year it was released. Saying that there are some really nice parts to this song.

 

Oh and that video, 2001 me was so excited to see an animated version of Steps. It certainly looks dated now.

I Know Him So Well:

 

I like this, even if I occasionally forget it was a double a with Words Are Not Enough. The three ladies sounds fantastic on this too which is great.

One of their least memorable covers for me. Not much more I can say really, sorry.

Mars & Venus:

 

I’m not really sure how I feel about this song. I loved it when I first heard it back in 2001 but that was probably due to it being new and not on the UK or Australian version of Buzz. Was it recorded later or was it just not picked for the UK version. I guess it kind of has that US sound to it from around that time. I still enjoy the song now, though it’s not one I regularly go back to a lot.

I think so. I mean I liked Buzz but this just seems that little bit more poppy.

 

I seem to remember it got ‘Song of the Week’ on one or two of the music video channels here in Australia. I don’t ever recall hearing it on radio though.

I loved B*Witched’s at the time but I haven’t listened to it in ages. Awake and Breathe has really grown on me in the decades since it’s release though.
