both Alcaraz-Zverev and Nadal-Djokovic were great games yesterday, both felt like finals rather than QF

by comparison the women's tournament is so underwhelming, even Swiatek today, she won but awful playing and so many errors

Croatia's Marin Cilic prevailed in a fifth-set tie-break against Russian seventh seed Andrey Rublev to reach his first French Open semi-final.

Cilic, the 20th seed, won 5-7 6-3 6-4 3-6 7-6 (10-2) in a captivating four-hour match on Court Philippe Chatrier.

He will face Casper Ruud in the last four after the Norwegian eighth seed ended Holger Rune's fairy tale run.

Unseeded Dane Rune, 19, had reached the last eight on his Roland Garros debut but bowed out 6-1 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-3.

oh poor Rune, the first set was painful to watch but he played so well in the second

personally bit of a shame Cilic-Ruud are one semifinal, it's just pure luck of an easy draw

Top seed Iga Swiatek says it was "disappointing and surprising" to hear French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo say women's games were not as appealing as men's matches.

Mauresmo, a former world number one, has faced criticism after only one of the 10 night sessions at this year's event was a women's match.

Poland's Swiatek, 21, has played all of her five matches in the day time.

"I think women's tennis has a lot of advantages," said the world number one.

had to agree with Mauresmo, the women's games have been terrible, it's a game of who makes less errors,

but there are hardy any winners, it's just error after error after error

at least a final Swiatek-Gauff is not half bad

poor Zverev, that was painful to watch

does anyone know his status? cannot find any info

Torn several ligaments in his right ankle. It was awful to see.

Swiatek played well enough to win the women's title

Coco started terribly as expected, she's always a mess of nerves, but at the end of the day Swiatek played much better

Nadal won but that was a meh final

very very disappointed with Ruud's performance, he was only there for a few games in set 2 then he disappeared

Can't blame him, first ever final going up against statistically the greatest to ever do it on his best surface. He had a very very lucky route to the final anyway, avoided playing anyone else in the top 10.

will never understand how the ranking works

after losing in first round in RG, Kontaveit jumps to a new peak at #2 and

same for Jabeur climbing to #4

at least Coco is closer to the t10 at #13

British pair Heather Watson and Harriet Dart both won in straight sets in the first round of the Nottingham Open.

British number two Watson, 30, set up a potential second-round tie with the country's number one Emma Raducanu by beating Katie Volynets 6-4 6-2.

US Open champion Raducanu, the world number 11, faces Viktorija Golubic in her first-round match on Tuesday.

Dart, 25, defeated Croatia's defending champion Donna Vekic 6-4 6-3 to end a four-match losing streak.

Wow never even heard of Kontaveit, never made it past a QF in a major (and not even past the 3rd round in 2 years) and now second in the world, have to laugh really.
especially since she lost in Round 1 in RG this year

Emma Raducanu's Wimbledon preparations have suffered a blow as she was forced to retire from her Nottingham Open opener against Viktorija Golubic.

The 19-year-old US Open champion took a medical timeout early in the first set because of a problem to her left side.

However, despite treatment and a dose of painkillers, she conceded the match shortly after Swiss Golubic moved 4-3 up with a break of serve.

It is Raducanu's third mid-match retirement since her 2021 US Open win.

The British world number 11 also bowed out of matches in Guadalajara in February and Rome in May with injuries.

Emma Raducanu says she has "no idea" whether she will be fit for Wimbledon after she retired from her Nottingham Open opener against Viktorija Golubic.

The 19-year-old US Open champion conceded the match while down 4-3 and a break of serve in the first set, having suffered an injury to her left side.

"I think I pulled something," she said, adding the injury was "an absolute freak".

"I cannot diagnose myself," Raducanu added. "I will get it checked out."

Andy Murray advanced to the Boss Open second round in Stuttgart with a straightforward 6-4 6-3 win over qualifier Christopher O'Connell.

Murray, 35, lost the first three games on the grass, but was soon into his stride to see off the Australian in 96 minutes.

The world number 68 could face Denis Kudla, who beat him in last week's Surbiton semi-finals, next.

To be fair to Kontaveit, she has won six titles on the tour in the past twelve months, they just happen to be at 500 and 250 level. That and a combination of half of the most recent slams being won by someone who's since retired, one by the current #1 (who's also won every Masters event this year bar one?), and the other by a fluke. It's all very close after Swiatek, I feel like these rises are more due to Sakkari not defending her SF points from last year?
