February 16, 20223 yr Why are they not vetting artists more thoroughly after what happened with MARUV lmao
February 16, 20223 yr Author Why are they not vetting artists more thoroughly after what happened with MARUV lmao The new rules are actually a product of what happened with Maruv, from Vidbir 2020, no artist who'd performed in any part of Russia or entered Crimea through Russia since 2014 can take part. And this only came to light after her win so someone did some real digging to find it. It's a pretty ridiculous rule because any commercially successful Ukrainian artist would be fools to give up a huge related market if they have access to it. And Alina is pretty unambiguously pro-Ukrainian in her attitude and her song. What's worse is that she might be found guilty of forging documents now.
February 16, 20223 yr Author lol Ukraine coming to drop out again like during MARUV gate? I think it's quite different from Maruv, Maruv didn't really give a shit about the Ukrainian nationalism part of being a Eurovision entry, while it seems like Alina has broken the law to try and represent Ukraine. Also I doubt Kalush Orchestra would show solidarity with Alina in this case, there's been a bit of drama between the two and they'd surely take the chance if offered. If Ukraine withdraws I'd say it'd be because the EBU tells them to get their shit in order. Which I don't think will happen.
February 16, 20223 yr At the same time Kalush Orchestra has songs released via Sony Music Russia label if I'm not mistaken so I'm not sure if the broadcaster would take that into account as well. Either way, I don't think the drama would end here if Alina Pash doesn't get selected. EDIT: It also appears a member of Kalush Orchestra also travelled to Russia years ago so I'm not sure if the broadcaster would be happy to let them go. Edited February 16, 20223 yr by uhsting
February 16, 20223 yr Alina Pash has withdrawn. View this post on Instagram EDIT: Further confirmed by the broadcaster: https://corp.suspilne.media/newsdetails/4775 Edited February 16, 20223 yr by uhsting
February 16, 20223 yr Author f*** I was hoping she'd stick it out - recent developments had indicated that the fake documents may have been a mistake by her team and she was going to go to a hearing but it sounds from that message that it all got too much for her 3
February 16, 20223 yr Honestly best case scenario for Russia at this point - create a division within Ukraine and make them look like a mess which they executed quite well. It's a bit like watching children whose temper tantrums can and do ruin many a life fight each other.
February 16, 20223 yr Gutting, though I understand her reasoning behind it. I saw someone say on Twitter that the last entry to win Vidbir and go to Eurovision was 'Under The Ladder'...
February 16, 20223 yr this sh!t should reeeeaaaally come to an end now. it is not even funny anymore (as if it was at some point). art should be above politics and stuff in the field of art.
February 16, 20223 yr Unpopular opinion but I hope Ukraine are chucked out this year. Hate all the political stuff behind their artists
February 18, 20223 yr Yesterday Kalush Orchestra were asked to represent Ukraine at Eurovision, and they’re likely to be officially announced later on today.
February 23, 20223 yr Author Good for them! This is still very good, as ever from Ukraine. Best country for real. I hope they get a storming reception at the contest.
February 25, 20223 yr I hope Ukraine is still a free country in May but sadly I'm starting to think it will be only a Russian possession until there. :( So, no Ukraine and probably Russia will be banned on Eurovision this year.
February 25, 20223 yr If Russia does annex Ukraine, I don't think we will see Kalush Orchestra being sent and there's a good chance they won't have time to send a new act and will be forced to withdraw.
February 25, 20223 yr Do you think they will allow Russia to participate this year? :o They just banned them.
