Kate Nash will be releasing her fifth studio album this year, already preceded by singles Misery and Horsie, and today the next single Imperfect was released. I think it's one of her best in recent years, it's so joyous and the description of "pop bop hairbrush banger" is perfect for it!

She's also planning to celebrate 15 years of Made of Bricks this year apparently, according to NME! :o

Kate is releasing her first album in six years (how has it been that long :o ) on 21st June :cheer: and it's her first on new label Kill Rock Stars, after previous albums Girl Talk and Yesterday Was Forever were self-funded. It includes the singles Misery, Horsie, Wasteman and brand new single Millions of Heartbeats (though confusingly, not Change from last month, whose artwork matches the album's theme!).

1 Millions of Heartbeats

2 Misery

3 Wasteman

4 Abandoned

5 Horsie

6 My Bile

7 These Feelings

8 Space Odyssey 2001

9 Ray

10 Vampyre

Really hyped for this, a new Kate album is always an exciting moment!!

I'm really fond of Change and I'm a bit confused at its omission here

It came out alongside her announcement of signing to the label so I assume it was only meant as a little celebration/milestone release in advance of the album

oh yes we love a new Kate album

agree the song choices are weird, I mean, including those songs from 2021-22 but not the one from last month :D

also love the fact it's called 9 Sad Symphonies but has 10 tracks :D

The album's been out a few weeks now and I'm really feeling it  it's the least chaotic album Kate's ever put out I think, but that allows for a real sense of cohesiveness throughout. For an album of mostly sad songs, it's got a really breezy, uplifting vibe to it, and Kate's songwriting is as astute and distinctive as ever. I heard her perform Ray on tour a couple of years ago and I'm so glad it finally got a release, what a gorgeous song  and final track Vampyre could easily have been towards the end of My Best Friend Is You, it's giving me I Hate Seagulls vibes in the best way.

I keep going back to this, it's an absolute beauty and I think it'll work its way up to being an essential Kate song for me. It's all the ingredients I love - she brings a touch of humour and realness to the lyrics but it's a song packed full of heart, in just the same way a song like Birds is. Very much hoping it's on the tour setlist

^oh will have to check this once I'm back from travelling. Birds is my #1 Kate Nash song <3
