While I am not a fan of Leona's Ray for me was 2nd only to the McDonald Brothets this year in lack of singing ability

I was almost in tears when she won! :cry: So glad she won, can't wait to buy the single!

I am amazed so many people here are emotional and shocked at the result etc its like Man Utd beating Port Vale and Man Utd fans being emotional and stunned

In my view Leona is only the third worthy winner of a Music Talent Reality show with Will Young - Pop Idol 1 & Alex Parks - Fame Academy 2 being the others.

 

As for your comments about Ben should have won X-Factor:

 

On Radio 5 Live they had David Grant the vocal coach (along with his wife, Carrie) on the first series of Pop Idol & the two series of Fame Academy, he revealed that his wife Carrie tried to encourage Leona who was studying at the Brit Academy at the time to enter both series of Fame Academy, but Leona did not want to, because of her apparent shyness, etc.

 

David was pretty glowing in his compliments about her vocal & musical ability, pointing out that there are a few successful R'n'b pop/soul UK female singers who have not got the live vocal ability that Leona has (i.e. Jamelia???, Beverley Knight???). But from the interview he did seem to strongly imply that it was her (lack of) personality that has held her back from breaking through before now in the music industry.

 

X-Factor 3 was the first reality show that she has auditioned for after trying to breakthrough in the music industry for two & a half years.

 

He also strongly hinted that he is aware that Simon Cowell has a few major songwriters lined up to write songs with/for Leona to ensure that she is "the first credible winner of a Pop Reality Show since Will Young" and will last longer than one album as a force in the music industry.

 

When of course, Ben auditioned for both series of Fame Academy and Rock Stars:INXS, but failed to get on (presumably) because he is not good enough.

Alex Parks did not win Fame Academy :unsure: I thought David Snedden won that one :unsure:

 

Different judges are after different things though, I remember David Grant as a singer and he was a dance/disco artist so how can he credibly judge a rock singer for instance ? Fame Academy was not the right vehicle for a rock singer like Ben

 

Rock Star INXS wanted someone who could replace Michael Hutchence and the judges clearly thought Ben could not replace Michael not that he is a c**p singer

Fame Academy wanted pop / dance / soul type/ alternative singer and songwriter type artists, it was the complete wrong vehicle for Ben, it would have been like Leona entering Rock Star INXS or Rock Star Supernova or whatever the follow up was
