Longevity game with lower sales and less time in the top ten and in the low top ten, only buoyed by radio payola, but Katy Perry, with the biggest no.1 of the year, more time in the top ten, more time on rasio, morw time in the chart, and a huge worldwide hit, did not??? Roar was so big and long-lived they had to push Dark Horse back from Halloween to March!!!!

Roar was so big becsuse it was, um, GOOD. Great, in fact, and so was its video. Applause had a terrible video, ir was rush released, and no one connects to that song.

Played Gypsy this morning and it was GLORIOUS. I then played Applause ans, just like watching an episode of And Just Like That, my whole morning was RUINED.

Can't believe we are even having this discussion, thanks to Adelita's bonsensw trolling to be different!!

Oh, and because I remember the era. You are cleaely a Jihnny-comw-Lately fan. GaGa uploaded photos of her preparing a posterboard foe Gypsy. She said it was the first single :cheer: . It was ANNOUNCED as the first single :cheer: . Then we got ... the damp squid of Applause squealching onto radio instead because the record company execs were as deaf as you to hits :nocheer:

Guess that's why I said Roar sold more? Katy Perry had a bigger hit with Roar because it was a song tailored for radio but also because she was known for her label's excessive payola and also because this song (a copy of Sara Bareilles' Brave) was easy to digest and had a safe, childlike video.

And no, Roar wasn't the biggest hit of 2013 on the Hot 100, it was Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's Thrift Shop, check your facts.

Applause's video is good and it's very "Gaga", it just so happens that you don't really know how to appreciate art and prefer shallow things. I want you to bring some proof that she ever said Gypsy would be the first single. In real life, she wanted Sexxx Dreams for the first single but came to her senses after writing Applause, as she said in that Tweet I posted above. Everything beyond her words is just daydreaming and trolling and I don't take it seriously. Also, anyone who hears a hit on Gypsy needs to go to the otolaryngologist.

Here to chuck my two cents in :sunglasses:

1. Applause - I think this worked well as a lead, a good track, a proven hit and it keeps some even better songs for later.

2. Gypsy - this would've been the biggest album-seller I think, so releasing it in the run-up to the album with a big promo push could have done wonders!

Promo: Aura

Promo: Dope - as I think Haus mentioned before, showing two different sides to the album with the promos, the delicate and the barmy x

-- ALBUM RELEASE --

3. Do What U Want (feat. Miguel) - this would've been a hit at any time but a sexy video and a far better choice of collaborator in Miguel would've secured the album a third hit (seriously, can't stop thinking about how good Miguel would sound on the track).

4. Sexxx Dreams - obviously with a radio friendly edit but I think they could've made it work. It sounds just like a hit to my ears and the video could've been incredible! Either this or G.U.Y to close the era off.

Ok, where is your proof that you have an ear for hits? Where are the FACTS? Why do you keep trolling, Adelita?!!?! I, Cdelita, am a MUCH better Delita than you, as I stick to the brand far more and I have an ear for hits. The fact that you don't hear a hit in Gypsy or Roar shows you deaf to hits.

If FERGIE FERG could get a bigger hit than Applause with L.A Lover, a song which CHANTS COUNTRIES THROUGHOUT THE -----ENTIRE----- SONG!!!, then Lady GaGa could with an absolute anthem. The FINAL PART of the song, which erupts into her travels, sounds anthemic and huge, and just rounds out what sounds like a monster pop hit.

And even she did better than your beloved Applause!!!

I def hear a hit on Roar, show me when i said otherwise?! The song's construction, its memorable hook, plus motivational, easy-to-memorize chorus are the perfect ingredients to please radio listeners, unlike Gypsy, in which she just screams in the chorus, not to mention its silly and cringy lyrics.

I don't know what are you on, but this Fergie song didn't even come close to Applause success. Applause spent almost the same number of weeks in the Top 10 as this Fergie song spent in the Top 100. In fact, Fergie hasn't had a hit in her solo career since I was still in 4th grade of elementary school. :king:

Shift Applause from the lead and you're onto a winner there Seph! *.*

Omg THIS!!! Shift Applause to last single.

Roar was the biggest song WORLDWIDE in the WORLD. Thrift Shop was released MONTHS before Roar btw lewl. Check their sales and streams now ;) . It was so big that they had to purposefully release a misfire, Unconditionally, as it was still so so strong on radio, tv and the charts that it would clash with the next big hit, and wait till March for it to die down!!! Roar spawned Dark Horse, the biggest song of the NEXT year. Had they released Walking (On Air) and Legendary Lovers, Roar would have led into FOUR no.1s from the same album. Throw in Black Widow the Halloween after, FIVE, equalling Michael Jackson's record, but not her record of 6 no.1s from Teenage Dream.

You are such a Johnny Come Lately fan that you weren't here for the actual eras. How tf do you expect me to find the old image of her with Gypsy on a promo board, when it was replaced as lead single within a week by shitty Applause?? You also don't realise how bad her image was at the time, with people screaming that she was ovee the rop, pretentious, arrogant, and up herself. She then released bloody APPLAUSE, with that artpop pretentious video, and it all just served as a self-parody. I cannot think of a worse song for her at that time than Applause!! It was honestly like a parosy.

Art in THAT pretentious disgrace of a video?? What, in her being a swan, ooor what? GaGa herself said they rushed her to make a video in 2 days, and she wasn't happy with it. Accept it. It's not GaGa and it's not artistic. It's just shit.

Here is a parody of GaGa's parody, Johnny Come Lately. You weren't around for it x Honestly, it's like you just E.T-ed your way out of an alien egg or something after crash landing in 2017.

Listen to the lyrics: "Remember when my videos weren't PRETENTIOUS AND f***ED UP. Remember when I didn't TOTALLY SUCK?" "I am the definiton of EGOTISTIC" - "I am so conceited and smug..." I TOLD YOU no one identified with those pretentious lyrics about applause!!!

Applause was HATED. Sorry. Her reputation was shot to shit already, and then Applause ruined it EVEN MORE by serving as self parody. Sorry. These are all FACTS. Get to Specsavers. They'll give you a free ear test when you tell them you like Applause by Lady GaGa x It's in their terms and conditions, and that's another FACT.

Another:

LOOK AT THE CONTEMPORARY REACTION!! "I once was so full of shit, now shit is so full of me", "What if I dress up as a bug? I'm d-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-e". "It's clear that I'm running out of ideas!"

Another common criticism after Applause was that she was out of ideas. The whole thing was just AWFUL.

I'm delighted that us Little Managers have found Miguel to be perfect for DWUW. 9 years late but still!!

Who's "us"?! I don't know who came up with this idea, but it has to be shipped back! Nobody knows Miguel. Usher or The Weeknd would be the obvious choices to replace R. Kelly on the song.

She could have even released a Spanish language version of the sang with Miguel on it. Could she do that with Usher, who was overexposed in 2013? Yeah, no.

Omg just realised that you are EXACTLY like the parody of her fans in that video   "This song is better than Roar - yeah that's song's so dumb!" "You are better than Katy Perry - she had work done"

Also, this is one of my favourite songs. Very deep and meaningful, unlike Applause. Perhaps it's you who only likes shallow things? Isn't your favourite song ironically called Shallow???

That was the reaction to Applause at the time! It was BRUTALISED. Everyone hated it and it did IMMENSE damage to her reputation, and so much that she only managed to reverse when Bradley Cooper was the only one in a room of 100 people to believe in her. Everyone else had given up on GaGa!!

My friends at the time weren't massive fans of it. Sexxx Dreams, G.U.Y. and especially Do What U Want were the songs I remember people liking/playing at pre-drinks events etc.
