07. Impressive Instant ~ 8.80 (more 9.5s)

Galaxies are sliding into view

Originally intended to be the fourth single from Music, Impressive Instant wasn't given a release due to Madonna's disagreement with the record company. The benefit of this, is that it has managed to storm well into the top 10 here! The hugely warped, frenzied song takes the listener on a journey across the galaxies with Madonna's computerised and robotic vocals. Released as a promotional single the US and topping the Dance charts there, it's a fan favourite and stands apart as being one of her most zany and frantic moments - and it's all the better for this!

06. Devil Wouldn't Recognize You ~ 8.85

Your eyes are full of surprises

In 6th place, it's the final track from Hard Candy and also the most recent track to come in the countdown. The song has also been named as Madonna's favourite song on the album and it's clear to see why: it's a haunting song about outsmarting the devil and being so unique and clever that even the devil wouldn't recognise you. It's about someone who gets away with everything. It was one of the first songs written for the album long before the album was actually conceptualised. It's an enduring ballad, with a soft and slow piano, before quickly escalating into a more hip-hop, melancholic vibe.

Impressive Instant is not top 5 !!

How lol?

Devil is amazing !!

Devil Wouldn't Recognize You is in my top 3 Madonna album tracks. It's done amazingly here but in my opinion it should have done even better. A truly great song with so much power behind it - especially considering the album it's on :P

05. Forbidden Love ~ 9.00

Hearts that intertwine

With an average of 9, Confessions On A Dancefloor loses its final track. We kick-start the top 5 with Forbidden Love. Written and produced by Madonna and Stuart Price, it's about a futuristic love where Madonna doubts the compatibility of the pair. There are multiple interpretations that can be taken from the song: is it about people from different cultures or religions, is it about homosexuality, is it about taboo relations? The true meaning is unclear, but what is clear is the haunting and mesmerising vibe that the song takes you through - a song of the ages.

04. Where's The Party ~ 9.15

I'm not living in fear, I'm just living in chaos

At #4 it's Where's The Party from True Blue. The song came from Madonna being in the middle of the media spotlight - during these intense moments she realised she should be enjoying herself and asked the question that the title of this song originates from. It's a joyous dance track as Madonna dances following a hard day's work. Despite not being a single. it received some radio airplay and has gone on to become a staple from the album. Totally uplifting and offering pure escapism, it's no wonder it has mustered up a hugely impressive +9 average here.

Easily could have been a hit even as a 7th single from a 9 track album.

Where's The Party is GREAT. A perfect album track in that it continues the vibes of the album brilliantly and just totally uplifts the listener. The lyric I featured in the post about it is perhaps my favourite on the whole album too!

03. Promise To Try ~ 9.30

Keep your head held high, ride like the wind

Incredibly, the Like a Prayer album has TWO songs featuring in the top 3. One of them drops out now, can the second go all the way? Promise To Try is written from the perspective of a younger Madonna dealing with the death of her mother. Considered to be the companion song to 'Oh Father' on the album, it's a gut-wrenching, heart-breaking moment of self-reflection and coming to terms with grief at its most real and raw. The album as a whole is dedicated to her mother, but this song is a direct address at the pain her death brought to a very young Madonna. The powerful, melancholy song starts off a very special top 3 in this countdown.

This would have been my personal #1 in terms of album tracks.

Love how it can be interpreted in many different ways as you said. I tend to associate it with the view point of sexuality it’s a song what I played a lot when I first started realising that part of myself but it’s such a well produced track and the confessions tour performances of it are a treat
