It's a first week on top for ODESZA and Bettye LaVette, and the magnificently dramatic and passionate club track, The Last Goodbye. The EDM US duo sample Bettye LaVette's jaw-dropping vocals from her 1965 US hit Let Me Down Easy, and my word it tarts up beautifully. Bettye is still garnering Blues awards at the tender age of 78. Wonderful! Up 49 place Florence grabs her biggest single since Queen Of Peace topped my charts for 7 weeks, 7 years ago, as My Love extends her top 10's to 13 years, and close behind is the UK's best Eurovision entry since Molly, Sam Ryder's Space Man, the UK's best hope to do well since Andrew LLoyd-Webber volunteered his and Diane Warren's services.

Highest new entry at 7 is Purple Zone, as Pet Shop Boys join Soft Cell for the first time ever, giving Marc Almond his first top 10 in 15 years, and Soft Cell's Dave Ball a first in 38 years! That extends Soft Cell's run of top 10's to 41 years, and Pet Shop Boys to 37 years. The Undertones 1979 minor hit, You've Got My Number, was under-appreciated by both me and the UK public during a classic year for multiple pop genres all peaking and on fire, so many great records got forgotten. So this is getting a deserved second run, just because. New at 23. Seth Lakeman has never made my charts - that changes with Make Your Mark catching my folkie/prog tastebuds, sort of, at 70, and tate McRae is back with a ballad, and she's a bit chaotic after 2021's massive duet with Troye Sivan (in my charts at least, if not the real world) on Regard's fabulous You. Regard are at 17 with a leap featuring Years & Years.

Hey John!

Loft that climb for My Love  I'm glad it's finally hit you. Such a gorgeous song. The video is fantastic as well.

Oo that's a nice climb for run. Hopefully it'll keep heading in this direction. That would be good.

That's a nice new peak for beg for you. About time 😜

Chaotic is lovely so I'm glad to see it enter. It's quite reminiscent of You Broke Me First, I think? But I also find it more palatable to my ears.

Nice chart! ^_^

Hey james! :)

My Love is sheer fabness, yes indeed! Run i still climbing, as is Beg For You, hope you approve :D Chaotic is much more like You broke Me First, but for some reason I never charted that one though I quite liked it, but this was just nice on one listen enough to want to buy it.

Cheers!

Good to see the brilliant Purple Zone off to a flying start :D

Hi Simon! :D Hope all is good at the moment, have I mentioned I'm jealous of the Ed Sheeran gig yet?

Glad you like Purple Zone, though it's more PSB than Soft Cell, but it's such an obvious get together one wonders why it's not happened before! Now, if Chris n Neil could just get it together with Sparks and Giorgio Moroder. Just watched the Edgar Wright brilliant documentary on Sparks on Netflix, and they make the very pertinent point that the template for EDM duos of the 80's is....Sparks. Right down to the static morose keyboard players (and more flamboyant lead singers in some cases).

Fantastic chart as always

Hi AH! :) My LOve is Florence back on form after a quiet period, and Radio 2 airplay to boot :cheer:

Also fingers crossed for Space Man, I expect it will chart after the contest, regardless of how well it does on the night - if it does well, it'll get a boost, if it bombs it'll get a huge sympathy sales support!

Yes, I agree about Purple Zone, though it did well on world sales charts (ie oldies like me who still pay for music). Yes, Undertones and Betty bombing together :D I knew Undertones had no chance when I heard the semi and reflected on the likely voters in the semi, but I still hoped Betty would sneak through, but like from me I think the very strong pop opposition did it in - usually it would have been a smooth sail through with the pop voters, and she was SO close to qualifying. Def deserved more than paltry 3 points I gave it, I would have placed it more around 7 or 8 normally.

cheers!

Hi Toffo,

Soft Cell haven't been spectacular for a while, sadly, so my expectations were a bit dampened, but it's def got those Always On My Mind/Imperial Phase PSB riffs to it!

Petula is always welcom on my chart!

Cheers!

Yes sometimes I get big on a song suddenly, it's always a slow climb, I love not knowing how it's going to go in advance of my chart when I play the tracks and position them as I play them

Cheers!
