Chart Track Commentary.....

One week before the Official Christmas Chart, Westlife make it four consecutive weeks at the top of the Album Chart with ‘The Love Album’. In terms of both chart performance and sales, this is their most successful album to date, selling almost twice as many in the first month as their previous fastest-seller ‘Coast To Coast’ six years ago.

U2 remain at No2 with ‘U218 Singles’, ahead of Mario Rosenstock’s resurgent ‘Gift Grub Vol 7’, up from 4 to 3. Il Divo’s ‘Siempre’ slips one place to 4, chased at 5 by George Michael’s ‘Twenty Five’, up from 9 last week. In the absence of any new entries, this week’s highest climber is Angelis’ self-titled debut album of choral classics which leaps from 32 to 16.

 

Akon and Eminem remain way ahead of the pack on the Singles Chart, taking a fourth week at No 1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Smack That’. Take That sit at 2 for a fourth week with the appropriately-named ‘Patience’, just ahead of Cascada who climbs from download-only 41 to 3 this week with the CD release of her second single ‘Truly Madly Deeply’. Her debut single ‘Everytime We Touch’ is a tough act to follow, having spent 7 weeks at No1 at the end of the summer. Cascada is one of four climbers this week following download-only debuts lower down the chart: Eminem & Friends jump from 28 to 5 with ‘You Don’t Know’, P Diddy (feat. Christina Aguilera) leaps from 38 to 8 with ‘Tell Me’ and Chris Cornell moves from 19 to 12 with ‘You Know My Name’.

 

Note: There was a slight error in last week's thread. On the album chart "Awake" by Josh Groban was listed as having climbed from 65 to 62. It had actually dropped out of the Top 100. The correct no 62 was "Ultimate Collection" by The Pogues which was a non mover
