was tried before, many years ago but I believe it was decided it didn't give enough fairness to the semis for the amount of effort put in and I also think could easily be construed as fixing if not done fairly. (mods see the LIII thread, I remembered that was the contest we tried but I don't think those semi draws were ever implemented in the end).

 

I always meant to do a trial run if I hosted (and compare it to a random draw and probably then implement the random draw for the actual contest and share thoughts with mods later) but when I did I... forgot and also I was in the semis myself so it was probably for the best that I didn't later admit to thinking about tinkering with the draw process.

 

I like the idea but I've never pushed too hard for it (despite being one of the nations who month-to-month most needs a favourable draw :ph34r: ) because of the difficulty of maintaining a pot list and applying it for... minor benefits and probable dissatisfaction with the system. At least there's no one to blame with a random draw.
