Posted April 27, 20223 yr With near confirmation that we're getting a soundtrack single imminently, do you think the song will go on to be a hit based on the movie it is associated with? We have seen GIGANTIC soundtrack singles be released over the past few years but also soundtrack singles that do next to nothing chart wise. Which way will Hold My Hand swing, do you predict? Will it be a hit or will it be largely ignored commercially? What examples of hit / miss soundtrack songs have there been recently?
April 27, 20223 yr I'm thinking it will be kind of between "average" and "gigantic". Considering the Hot 100 is pretty weak right now, the song could debut in top ten (and most likely top 20) but what happens beyond the first week... I would think it'll be at least Perfect Illusion size of hit?
April 27, 20223 yr Author I think average too but was thinking more Million Reasons in that it could be a sleeper hit that stays around but probably doesn't have a huge debut? It all depends on the success of the movie though which could literally go any sort of way given the delays the film has had so far..
April 27, 20223 yr Yea agree, the movie plays a big part. If it's super bad, and don't find the audience, the song will not go anywhere beyond the hype.
April 27, 20223 yr I'm fairly confident it'll be huge. Top 3 at least on both sides of the Atlantic and a long-runner.
April 27, 20223 yr It really could go any way. It could very well just end up like another Till It Happens to You (I’m sure it’ll at least be a bit bigger than this but I mean just like a throwaway soundtrack single) or it could unexpectedly take off like Shallow Pretty sure it’ll fall somewhere in the middle of these two though with a strong debut but not too much longevity
April 27, 20223 yr Til It Happens to You would do a bit better if it was released now I think. It has 40 million streams on Spotify which is not a lot but it's more than some of the Joanne/most of the ARTPOP album tracks and would think it equals like 100M+ if released today.
April 27, 20223 yr Author A Tuesday release will impact the first week debut that her fans will fight for but hopefully it's universal enough to appeal outside the fan base too!
April 27, 20223 yr The movie will help it to stay afloat. I would think it won't peak in its first week?
April 27, 20223 yr Author I suppose times have changed drastically since the days of relying on a first week peak but it still wouldn't have hurt to have the downloads of week 1 really help its debut.
April 27, 20223 yr I’m gonna say yes! Don’t think it’ll be huge from the off it’ll get a good enough first week peak for what a midweek release gets (I’d have said at least a top 30 debut if it had a Friday release) think it’ll begin to climb once the movie comes out though and that’s when the track will reach its peak so I think it’ll peak early June perhaps? My overall initial prediction on this is that because it’s a soundtrack single it might have better appeal outside her usual stan fanbase who love the more pop star side of her? The general public really took to the more refined singer/songwriter side of her and seems to be more in that lane so I think it will have appeal. I also feel like seems invested though and I feel she’ll at least attempt to get a hit of sorts from this. I’m not too sure where I see it peaking though. Like Million Reasons was a hit but that peaked at #39 here in the UK so I think it’ll do better than that peak wise here in the UK.
April 28, 20223 yr The general hype seems pretty big right now - definitely bigger than with TIHTY and Joanne era. It might even start like Shallow did. That song really won people over soon after the release.
May 3, 20223 yr Author Unless it gets no radio or streaming support, I can't not see this being a hit now I've heard it. It's gigantic? I'd be shocked if it wasn't but stranger things have happened and it'll all be about the support it gets.
