Looking forward to Ncuti's second season! The trailer looked good too.

I think I’m quite confident that Jodie will regenerate into Tennant first now.

Are we not getting a series before the anniversary? I can't quite see that regeneration happening. As we know with previous anniversary specials, even dating back to the 10th anniversary in 1973, the Doctors still exist within their own timelines so can crossover at some point in time.

She is Doctor Donna in these episodes. Remember, Timeless Child will be from an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, and will NOT be Canon for our Doc Who anymore.

I’m pretty sure that RTD’s first full series isn’t until 2024.

RTD has "Okay. That's enough. Stop now. Stop. No more announcements" with a winky face ;) at the bottom of his Insta post!

So definitely more to come.

Oh my god! Someone commented on it “Announcement Sundays are so good”

and RTD replied: “And Mondays ;)” - seems like something else is coming today!

The rumours were true. After weeks of not-quite-denials and protestations of ignorance from David Tennant and Catherine Tate, the BBC has officially confirmed their return to Doctor Who: “One of the most loved pairings in Doctor Who’s history have reunited and are filming scenes that are due to air in 2023 to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations”.

Hmm. The way the BBC have phrased that doesn't make it sound like a full time role for either here. Could be a mini episode of flashback, rather than a full focus on them two,

Personally that sounds much more preferable than some of the sillier ideas knocking around

I don't think anyone thinks it'll be a full-time role. But the leaks from a while ago with Tennant (as 14) & Donna returning for 3 specials have been correct so far...

But BBC press explicitly states Ncuti is the 14th Doctor and so a crossed timeline, flashback etc. is the least ridiculous idea and the above quote doesn't sound like anything more than a guest starring role for them both, rather than the suggestion I've seen of Jodie regenerating into David. Which would be an almighty shark jumping moment if you ask me.

Tennant's legacy on the show is becoming an anchor that is holding it back from truly moving on. His popularity in the role was close to that Tom Baker's but Tom was wise enough to steer well clear of the show for years and allow it move on without him despite the pleas of both audience and producers alike. Fine if Tennant wants one last episode in the role before he ages out of it but don't go messing up the whole thing by making it a 10th Doctor vanity project. with the character choosing to be him again as 14 or some other equally contrived idea.

If nothing else it feels little insulting to both Jodie and particularly Ncuti - Hey, welcome aboard, you're the 14th Doctor, (except you're not because we want to use that guy who was really popular 15 years ago and we don't trust you alone to boost ratings).

The original press release doesn’t actually refer to Ncuti as 14 actually. I’m not too fussed with that idea, but I still think it’s likely. But I suppose we’ll find out in October.

RTD’s quite grand plot description also suggests that it’ll be more than just a few “scenes”

“They’re back! And it looks impossible – first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna. What on earth is happening?

“Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”

In other news, major character returning spoiler:

Bernard Cribbins has been seen on the set in Camden

I feel like Tennant being 14 would be a very strange move and it doesn't feel in line with the show's ethos - and why would the Doctor only seek Donna out when they look like Tennant? Perhaps I'll be wrong but I suspect this is either a "lost" story from the 10/Donna era or something similar that runs parallel to the main show (I've seen suggestions that

Jodie regenerates outside and it could just be that we see Tennant and Donna nearby the scene where his future self regenerates, RTD would absolutely troll that hard

)

True, but subsequent BBC news pages have. It does make thing a bit vague I'll admit

It probably won’t be “lost” story from the Tennant era though as we’ve seen him on set today with Jodie’s TARDIS (and a new outfit).

Should definitely be interesting though!

OMG like a geek I just went through all of the replies on yesterday's post and Russell just posted a ROSE emoji!!!

My husband just saw an unofficial post that Yasmin Finney is playing Rose Temple-Noble - Donna's daughter??

Not anywhere else though, that I can see. And I'm not sure the dates add up AT ALL, so never mind!!

So definitely something to do with Rose then... what on earth could it be? I guess all will be revealed at 7pm!

(Quite a wild thought but maybe a spin-off with Yasmin starring alongside Billie Piper?)

Having said what I've said... this (contains spoilers) from 12 days ago really does ring true now

Rachel Talalay

has been spotted on set and

Yasmin Finney playing Donna's daughter

makes so much sense.
