Calum ranks 100 Kylie Minogue singles (1987-2026)
56 Je ne sais pas pourquoi UK chart peak: #2 From: Kylie 57 Golden UK chart peak: N/A From: Golden 58 Some Kind of Bliss UK chart peak: #22 From: Impossible Princess 59 Dance Floor Darling UK chart peak: N/A From: DISCO 60 Wouldn't Change a Thing UK chart peak: #2 From: Enjoy Yourself All the twos in this section with three singles dropping out that peaked at #2, #2 and #22. The first of those is one that will mark the beginning of my undying adoration for the Showgirl tour coming out in full force. Je ne sais pas pourquoi is a lovely song, and in a really emotive third act on the Showgirl tour alongside In Denial and Confide in Me, it was the first time I'd heard it, and with such a captivating performance and good storytelling throughout that whole act even listening to it now it's what I picture. Although you wouldn't particularly look back at Kylie's entire discography and immediately think 'yeah this is one of her greatest hits', the love for her first few eras was strong at that point. Similarly to Got to Be Certain, Wouldn't Change a Thing is an enjoyable bop and has the big nostalgia factor attached to it. Taken from her second album Enjoy Yourself - an album that always lends itself to heavy critiques - it's definitely one of the most palatable and memorable songs. Despite receiving acclaim for her collaboration with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, when Kylie released Some Kind of Bliss - marking the beginning of the Impossible Princess era - it was met with criticism. Albeit now retrospectively this and the era in general are remembered more fondly as people come around and realise she was just ahead of the curve, bold in her experimentation, and committed to doing what she wanted to do at the time. Some Kind of Bliss is a great song. Admittedly I myself don't really go back to Impossible Princess too much, but when I do I'm always surprised by just how much I enjoy it. Fast forward and we have two singles from Kylie's more recent eras. Dance Floor Darling, from DISCO, is one of the songs that is quintessentially on brand with the disco theme. A fun bop that really gets you in the disco mood much like the majority of the album. It's a shame it didn't manage to chart in the UK, because it's definitely a great representation of the highs this era had to offer (particularly looking back now realising Magic wasn't the wisest choice of single). Self-empowerment anthem Golden, the third single from her fourteenth album of the same name, is one of those songs that doesn't sound the most remarkable when listening to the studio version but did really come to life and was quite the moment seeing it performed live. Not only that, the storytelling is one of the strongest components of this album and Golden is one song where it really shows. It's no surprise when you consider this was one of the three songs from the album that was conceived when Kylie was in Nashville. And good on Kylie for sticking the finger up to all of the critiques that have come her way from the media regarding her age.

61 Where Is the Feeling? UK chart peak: #16 From: Kylie Minogue 62 Got to Be Certain UK chart peak: #2 From: Kylie 63 Real Groove UK chart peak: N/A (#95, Dua Lipa version) From: DISCO 64 Kids with Robbie Williams UK chart peak: #2 From: Light Years 65 At Christmas UK chart peak: N/A From: Kylie Christmas: Snow Queen Edition Two #2 hits drop out of the running now, one of them from Kylie's debut album and the other a collaboration with Robbie Williams. Got to Be Certain really solidifies itself as a 'classic Kylie song' from the early days even if it's not considered a massive fan favourite. It's always nice hearing her blend it in some way or another to medleys when performed live, always giving a nod to her beginnings. It's like most of the rest of the self-titled debut; a fun little bop you can always enjoy when you go back to it. Kids, on the other hand, is potentially a bit lower than some might expect. It's not a bad song, and as far as Kylie collaborations go it's certainly among the top-to-middle of the pack. My problem, or rather tiring, of Kids though comes from it always being included on a tour setlist from Showgirl onwards. And what's funny is that I find the version performed live with Dannii on the Showgirl Homecoming tour to be much more enjoyable than the original. You can tell they had so much fun performing that together, sharing the stage at such an important time for Kylie rebuilding her strength. Every tour after it has been performed on though always feels like a re-tread of the magic they managed to achieve with it on the Showgirl tour. At Christmas becomes my highest-ranked Christmas single by Kylie. It wouldn't be my top pick of the Christmas songs overall. As I've already said, there are other songs from her Christmas packages that are much more enjoyable and could have served as singles too, but alas. At Christmas is a really solid song. It's camp, but it's not quite as in your face as XMAS is and manages to sound really naturally festive and warm, encapsulating the festive period in a way that some original Christmas songs these days just chase for the sake of putting a Christmas song out rather than committing to the bit. Real Groove was a single I was not a fan of at all when the DISCO era first rolled up. It was probably one of my least favourites on the album. Since then, I've warmed to it a lot and it's grown in my affections for sure. The Studio 2054 remix with Dua Lipa certainly elevates it a little more too; a song that definitely feels like it was screaming for Dua Lipa to be featured on it from the beginning since it's not too far removed from something you could actually imagine Dua releasing herself. Admittedly KM94 is one album I don't find myself going back to often at all. A bit of an anomaly in her back catalogue considering I do go back to other earlier albums quite a bit. That said, Where Is the Feeling? is a great song (despite that 6:58 length). Released differently around the world, it ended up being the third single from KM94 in the UK. Quite a change in sound and style compared to the previous single Put Yourself in My Place. It's groovy though, and a nice departure from the vocal delivery on some of Let's Get to It. Considering the song originally wasn't meant for Kylie and was instead recorded by Within a Dream prior, thankfully the stars aligned and we have it.

The Official Labour Calmer Steering Thread (mk III)
I’ve never liked Starmer, and some of the things this government have pushed through so far have been f***ing awful. So in that sense I’ll be glad to see someone new take over and hopefully steer us in a different direction of sorts. But it’s not been an absolutely terrible, unsalvageable tenure so it does seem ridiculous that it’s come to this just 2 years in.

Calum ranks 100 Kylie Minogue singles (1987-2026)
66 Crystallize UK chart peak: #60 67 It's No Secret UK chart peak: N/A From: Kylie 68 A Second to Midnight with Years & Years UK chart peak: N/A From: DISCO: Guest List Edition 69 All I See UK chart peak: N/A From: X 70 Word Is Out UK chart peak: #16 From: Let's Get to It The collaborations get a bit of a breather now with the only one dropping out being Kylie's collaboration with Olly Alexander of Years & Years. A Second to Midnight, the lead single from DISCO: Guest List Edition (as well as also appearing on Olly's album Night Call), again follows the trend of all of the songs on the Guest List Edition being perfectly serviceable enough songs, and certainly sticking with the disco vibes, but really don't all come together to form a spectacular package worth raving about. It's surprising too that she and Olly have only really officially collaborated on this and Starstruck together because you'd think they'd be two artists that could come up with a real banger. Alas, we're still waiting. Word Is Out was the lead single from Kylie's fourth album Let's Get to It, and I have to go back to my comment on Give Me Just a Little More Time regarding it seeming like she's shouting at us just a tad. This is pretty similar to that, despite having warmer moments in its verses. It's a catchy enough song, and yes probably one of the most commercial sounding on the album to warrant leading it at the time, but I do think with the power of hindsight and being so familiar with the album now perhaps the singles should have been completely different to the ones that were released. All I See has always been a favourite of mine from X, and the only reason it places so low here is because there are still so many greats to come. This came at a time of renewed efforts to crack the US, with this song being performed on the likes of Dancing With the Stars and The Ellen DeGeneres Show but perhaps this wasn't the right song to try and catapult yourself back into the spotlight there. I think what also goes against All I See is that it came at a time where - and perhaps naively you'd think reviews would be a little kinder all things considered - some harsh reviews bashed it and several other songs on the album; so at this point it was game over in terms of reviving the campaign. It's No Secret harks us right back to the beginning again, coming from Kylie's eponymous debut album. It gets bonus points for just being a really light-hearted, enjoyable bop that I find myself bopping my head to whenever it's on. Is it the most groundbreaking song ever? No. Is it among the very best of the album? No. But it's cute. And it's nice that, while not a staple of any of her tours, it was given a moment to shine during some of the Anti Tour shows back in 2012. Finally here, Crystallize was originally to be included on Kiss Me Once (why, oh why not?!) but was left out and later released as a charity single for One Note to Cancer in May 2014. With hints of both Into the Blue and The One scattered throughout, you've got to wonder what the team were smoking when they decided this didn't have a place on the album (I'd have suggested leaving Million Miles and Les Sex out and replacing them both with this, thank you). A beautiful song, and obviously ended up supporting a great cause in the end.
