  2. 13 I Believe in You UK chart peak: #2 From: Ultimate Kylie 14 In My Arms UK chart peak: #10 From: X I did think going into this that I'd have I Believe in You in my top 10, but alas it's landed just outside it at #13. For me, despite lyrically being one of the most simplistic songs ever, it's so beautiful. The lead single from Ultimate Kylie and another collaboration with Jake Shears, I Believe in You was considered a return to form by many after Body Language wasn't received the best universally, and also earned Kylie a Grammy nomination. I think looking back now, it's definitely one of the most iconic early 2000s Kylie singles, and the music video just as iconic. Live performances, such as on the Showgirl tour and Aphrodite: Les Folies prove that it translates just as well in that setting too, providing some of the most dramatic and endearing moments. I Believe in You, however, isn't the highest placing single from Ultimate Kylie here, with one more yet to come. In My Arms was the third single from X, and despite being one of the best songs from the album (and the highest-placing single from the album in this countdown!), it ended up actually being Kylie's lowest-charting single in Australia since Cowboy Style. Seeing In My Arms come to life live - particularly on the KylieX2008 tour in the Black versus White act, was great. It's one of those songs that really pops and has its moment; particularly with the rocked-up version of the song performed on the Aphrodite: Les Folies tour. Unlike, for example, Slow and Can't Get You Out of My Head where some of her singles are revamped for live performances and it leaves me a little cold, this was one that was interesting to see a different take on. Definitely, in my opinion, the best single choice from the X era, and a single that will always stand up against some of her very best.

Sinner to win. But feel like this year has been very uninteresting overall to follow. My king Draper better be back and in perfect health next year ready to bring them all down x
  4. The last thing we need is her essentially becoming the UK right’s version of Charlie Kirk
  5. I don’t mind them having a Love Island name on, but him and Dani?

Cobolli really needs to tighten up and try sweep the next 3 sets but I don’t see it happening sadly.

  10. 15 Please Stay UK chart peak: #10 From: Light Years 16 What Do I Have to Do? UK chart peak: #6 From: Rhythm of Love Originally intended to be the second single from Rhythm of Love - instead the third after Step Back in Time was opted for - What Do I Have to Do? is a proper Kylie classic for me, standing up so well in a perfect run of singles from this era too. It's interesting reading about the tension that some - what would now be considered - classic Kylie singles caused behind the scenes, with the likes of Mike Stock not being happy with this type of sound and direction taking over in place of more traditional pop songs. But thank god we got this because it's such a fun song and really leans into the club vibes brilliantly. Showgirl tour mention #3765, but that live performance of this song, as well as the blend with I'm Over Dreaming (Over You), was genius, and Kylie's vocals on this live just make it sound even better. I'm glad that even today she still has so much love for and likes to include singles from the Rhythm of Love era on tours. What Do I Have to Do? ends up the second highest placing single from Rhythm of Love, so I'm sure you can all guess which one is yet to come. Latin pop song Please Stay is honestly so underrated in my opinion. Such a brilliant song, serving as the fourth single from the Light Years era (with three (!) more yet to come in the countdown; proves just how strong the singles were from that album). The latin vibes of the song really come through when you see Kylie performing this on the Showgirl tour, adding a blood red dress over the top of her lacy jumpsuit and the whole performance feeling like you're in a matador's ring. Despite that, the music video, in my opinion, just oozes pure sex appeal. For me, it was probably one of many gay awakenings when I was younger. Being included on Ultimate Kylie too, watching the music video over and over and not knowing whether I was attracted to Kylie or whether it was the men at the party throwing her around the room in their unbuttoned shirts and tight jeans was quite the dilemma. This being a top 10 hit for Kylie too is something I love to see, because were it not for the sheer strength of the other singles ahead of it here in Kylie's discography I'd make a case for it being top 10.

  12. 17 Can't Get You Out of My Head UK chart peak: #1 From: Fever 18 Dancing UK chart peak: #38 From: Golden One thing I'll always respect Can't Get You Out of My Head for is the sheer cultural impact the song has had. It's become a defining song of Kylie's career, with the iconic music video, the white jumpsuit, pretty much all aspects of it embedded in queer culture and being a real turning point for Kylie heralding in a brand new generation of fans. The music video was very much a part of my childhood, referring back to Ultimate Kylie and watching it on repeat. The song's come and gone in my affections over the years but I'll always love it really. After initially being offered to S Club 7 and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, it's difficult to imagine this being a song by any other artist now. What really sticks with me about this song is how the likes of The Abbey Road Sessions and some live performances can turn it into a much more powerful, atmospheric song too. One of the things that always stands out to me about this - particularly with its live performances - is how it can end up incorporating themes and sounds of Doctor Who so well, with the backing dancers on the Showgirl (and Homecoming) tour alluding to Cybermen, and Kylie then ending up starring in the show. Kylie's first single with BMG and lead single from Golden, Dancing is such a wonderful country-pop-bop that introduced us to this brand new world that Kylie had cooked up for the era so perfectly. This was a delicious taste of what was to come on an album full of Kylie in storytelling mode and infusing country so wonderfully into her classic pop sound. What was brilliant to see is that critics raved about Dancing too, some being a tad hyperbolic saying it was the best/freshest thing she'd done since Impossible Princess (where were you for all the other eras?), so Kylie definitely hadn't lost her edge going into this era. I think we'll need to be eternally thankful for what those Nashville recording sessions did for Kylie as an artist and how she's brought it into every era since. Dancing was the perfect encore to the Golden tour too, so to see it performed live was great; the last time I saw her on tour.

Shelton out in the first round is a bit 👀 Need Cobolli to pull through and do as well as possible now ❤️
  14. 19 Wow UK chart peak: #5 From: X 20 The One UK chart peak: #36 From: X Kicking off the top 20 with a double helping of X singles, and it's Wow and The One dropping out, meaning only one single from X remains in the countdown. It's intriguing that there seems to have been so much topsy-turvy behind the scenes with the singles strategies for X, because while the campaign was largely okay in the UK, it seemed they really wanted to crack the US with Kylie's comeback era. Given it failed with All I See, they ended up going with Wow the second time. Wow was wanted as the first single to launch the campaign too, but ultimately 2 Hearts was chosen (who knows how different things might have been had that happened?). Wow for me is a slice of pop perfection, and picks you up and transports you right into the stratosphere; undoubtedly a Kylie classic at this point. The One, on the other hand, is one that for some time I've had a love/hate relationship with, but now it's pretty much all love given its high placing here. The fifth and final single from X, The One has always been one that the fans have gushed over. For me, around the time of X's release and for a while after it was overrated and I just couldn't love it the same way I loved most of the other songs on X (albeit an album full of experimentation among some perfect pop). It's wild knowing that it only just made the top 40 in the UK because you'd think it should have been a top 10 hit, but coming right at the end of the era... perhaps that was a misstep. Live performances of The One really elevate it for me too because you can see just how much Kylie loves the song and it's become a part of her timeless catalogue.

  16. 21 Breathe UK chart peak: #14 From: Impossible Princess 22 Come Into My World UK chart peak: #8 From: Fever 23 Stop Me From Falling UK chart peak: #52 From: Golden 24 Into the Blue UK chart peak: #12 From: Kiss Me Once 25 Hand on Your Heart UK chart peak: #1 From: Enjoy Yourself Number one single Hand on Your Heart becomes the highest-placing in the countdown from Kylie's sophomore album Enjoy Yourself. The lead single from the album, Hand on Your Heart has always been a favourite of mine. Despite the lyrical content of a woman wanting her man to literally put his hand on his heart and say he means it when he says it's over, it's such a fun, enjoyable pop bop that embraces pushing Kylie's sound forward after the success of her debut album. It's always a joy to hear it performed live too, particularly on the Showgirl tour in such a nostalgic act. One thing I will say about Hand on Your Heart though is that I'm not quite so keen on the re-recording of it from The Abbey Road Sessions compared to the elevations some other songs enjoy from it. That doesn't detract from how much I love it, though. In stark contrast to Hand on Your Heart, the lead single from Kiss Me Once - Into the Blue - has had far less live outings, despite receiving much attention from also being performed at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It always baffles me that the Kiss Me Once era gets such a hard time because, comparatively speaking, Into the Blue launched the campaign in quite a strong way; certainly not a massive flop compared to other eras. I Was Gonna Cancel really doesn't negate how brilliant this and the rest of the album is. Into the Blue certainly has that same euphoric feel that the likes of All the Lovers do and definitely deserves to be considered a classic Kylie song, even if she herself may have moved on from it entirely. Fever loses its first single in the countdown with Come Into My World landing just outside the top 20. I do love this, but when you sit it alongside the rest of the singles from a near-perfect era it's the weakest in my opinion. That said, seeing this open the show on KylieFever2002 is a moment. Kylie standing at the centre of the stage, her armour being undone to reveal herself and inviting the crowd into her world for the next one to two hours, performing the best of Fever and classic hits. So much love for it. The music video for Come Into My World is great too, can always remember watching it on repeat as a child, and it being part of my Kylie education featuring on the Ultimate Kylie music videos DVD. The second-highest single from Golden, Stop Me From Falling, might seem a bit high but honestly I will make no apologies. It's such a brilliant country-infused pop bop that never fails to make me happy when listening to it. Another of the songs recorded while Kylie was in Nashville, and one of her favourites from the album, it's great to see Kylie letting loose and having so much fun and sounding so good vocally, despite this being one of the songs on Golden that isn't quite so deep in storytelling mode as some others. At #21, Breathe marks the highest-placing single from Kylie's sixth album Impossible Princess. No matter where it ended up in the countdown itself, it would always have been the highest from the album. It's such a gorgeous song, and despite being released at a time where things were very uncertain and ending up being the last song released under Deconstruction it's great that over the years it's still woven through so many other projects. Having this, in such contrast with what charted next for her with Spinning Around, just shows her versatility, and the calm, soothing nature of the track in both production and vocals is lovely. This is absolutely one song I'd put on a list of Kylie songs somebody should listen to if they'd never listened to anything by her before.
  17. Not an 11 year old thread being bumped when the album’s discussion thread is on page 1 of the AF
  18. 26 Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love) UK chart peak: #93 From: Aphrodite 27 Never Too Late UK chart peak: #4 From: Enjoy Yourself 28 Shocked UK chart peak: #6 From: Rhythm of Love 29 Timebomb UK chart peak: #31 30 Padam Padam UK chart peak: #8 From: Tension It's a testament to how strong an album Aphrodite is that only Better Than Today had dropped out at #76 before reaching the top 30. Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love) has always been a firm favourite of mine from the album. It's a miracle this even ended up being released as a single given how Better Than Today went down, but alas it at least got a moment to shine. But by that time, the campaign was dead in the water with this only just scraping the top 100 in the UK. The brackets couldn't be more on the nose here though because you can really feel the love with this song; an incredibly joyous pop bop. The final song before the encore on the Aphrodite: Les Folies tour, too, it was an iconic note to end on, feeling like a celebration on stage after a monumental performance by the goddess. Three top 10 hits drop out here, the first of those being Padam Padam; ultimately the highest-placing song from the Tension era in the countdown. It took me quite a while to warm to Padam Padam. Initially I wasn't really feeling it. It wasn't until it started going viral and it felt a little inescapable that it finally hit me, and it ended up being iconic seeing everybody dancing to a Kylie single in 2023. It's hard to imagine this song ending up in the hands of Rita Ora or a Eurovision contestant now given those were the thoughts before it was snapped up by Kylie, and with Slow being the inspiration for some of the sounds on Tension, it's easy to see that with on this song. Rewind to earlier Kylie albums and we lose another single from Rhythm of Love, Shocked, and Never Too Late doesn't quite manage to become the highest-placing single from Enjoy Yourself with one more still to come. Both are such brilliant songs. Shocked has probably warmed its way into my affections from tour performances and repeated listens afterwards (notably its inclusion in the Smiley Kylie medley on the Showgirl tour; when you look back at that medley and see just how many songs were included in that it's wild, but in the best way), and Never Too Late just has that classic, early Kylie feel and sound that is so comfortable and joyous you can't help but shuffling along. Vocally, it always stands out so much to me with such a perfect hook. Hearing it as part of a classics medley on the Kiss Me Once tour was something I'll never forget. Released in 2012 as part of KM25 celebrating Kylie's 25th anniversary in the music industry, Timebomb was surprise-released and is such an energetic dance bop that really switches things up in the best way. Although it didn't end up actually featuring on an album (of sorts) until Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection's release in 2019, it's always had its fans and was good to hear live on the Kiss Me Once tour (sadly I didn't make it to the Tension tour). It does seem strange looking back that they wouldn't include it on The Best of Kylie Minogue in 2012 as a new track, but alas. Lyrically it's quite similar to Dancing I'd say, even though it pre-dates that. It's always great to hear Kylie singing of living in the moment, seizing the day, and having the time of your life.
  19. 31 Flower UK chart peak: #96 32 Say Something UK chart peak: #56 From: DISCO 33 I Should Be So Lucky UK chart peak: #1 From: Kylie 34 Finer Feelings UK chart peak: #11 From: Let's Get to It 35 Step Back in Time UK chart peak: #4 From: Rhythm of Love Now we're really getting to the good stuff. From a near-flawless run of singles, it takes us until #35 before Rhythm of Love loses one of its singles. From Kylie's third album, Step Back in Time is a groovy, funky, feel-good bop that very much pays tribute to the sounds of the 70s and leans into disco so well. Always a highlight performed live too, Step Back in Time was that moment on the Showgirl tour like being in the club dancing with your friends, so care-free and in the moment. Everybody coming together to celebrate. Step Back in Time, of course, also went on to become the title of Kylie's most recent Greatest Hits collection. And speaking of disco, the highest-placing single from DISCO is in this section. Lead single Say Something immediately caught my attention and I knew we were in for a special era from Kylie. Not only did it come at a time where it felt like lyrically it spoke to us all so clearly - with all that was happening with COVID - but it also ended up being praised widely by a lot of critics which is good to see when often they're not always the kindest to Kylie. If there's one thing Kylie can cook up, it's a euphoric anthem that spreads love, joy, hope and positivity. Perhaps surprisingly, Finer Feelings ends up being the highest-placed single from Kylie's fourth album Let's Get to It in the countdown. I think what makes this stand out from the rest on Let's Get to It is that vocally it's a lot more restrained, and manages to find strong moments where she can show off her voice. It still has its moments, but it's moodier and a lot more atmospheric compared to other more typical Kylie-sounding songs. What's more, hearing this live in a beautiful section between Cowboy Style and Too Far is a chef's kiss moment. The storytelling really jumped out and gave me loads of newfound love and appreciation for the song. Having appeared on The Abbey Road Sessions, too, and re-recorded beautifully for that is another reason to fall in love with it. What to say about I Should Be So Lucky? There's so much. Knowing that the song was written in so little time while Kylie waited outside the studio to record it, and getting that little more insight into how it all came about (the recording and the music video) from her recent Netflix documentary, makes it all the more special. Early days Kylie captured the attention of the world with this song, and it's undoubtedly one of the biggest classic Kylie hits. I'll never forget the segment in the Showgirl tour, and can always visualise it so clearly, where The Loco-Motion comes to an end and we're just bopping with some generic backing music before those first notes hit and everybody instantly realises what's coming. This is one song that I don't mind always showing up on tours, because while it's another one that's always reinvented in different ways (either given space to be a ballad, or performed in the classic style) it's one that just doesn't get boring. Finally in this section, we have the beautiful Flower. Originally intended to be included on X, it didn't end up being included but was however performed on KylieX2008 and did have a music video released, as well as also appearing on The Abbey Road Sessions. No matter what people say about Kylie's ability to sing live (which has always seemed bizarre to me anyway?!), when you see her live performance of Flower, there's no denying that she is a wonderful vocalist when the moment calls for it. What's heartbreaking about Flower is knowing the meaning behind it, and it being a love letter to the child that Kylie may or may not ever have. And I'm sure there are many other ways it can be interpreted too, but when you consider how much Kylie has spoken about having a family, and that this was written while she was undergoing treatment for cancer, it makes it all the more poignant.

  21. 36 What Kind of Fool (Heard All That Before) UK chart peak: #14 From: Greatest Hits (1992) 37 Did It Again UK chart peak: #14 From: Impossible Princess 38 Slow UK chart peak: #1 From: Body Language 39 Tension UK chart peak: #19 From: Tension 40 Especially For You with Jason Donovan UK chart peak: #1 A few top 20 hits depart now as we get down to the top 40, and among those are two number ones. After building a considerable following with audiences appearing as Charlene and Scott on Neighbours, it's no surprise that Especially For You ended up being a number one for Kylie and Jason. Initially conceived for Jason's debut album Ten Good Reasons, it ended up being included on the US edition of Enjoy Yourself. Since then, it's gone on to enjoy continued success, and I'll hark back to the Showgirl tour again where it became the opening song of the encore. In Jason's absence, the lyrics appeared above her for everyone to sing along as they swayed their arms and embraced the moment before ending the show on the punchy note of Love at First Sight. I do really love Especially For You, even if Jason's vocals are the weakest part, and he always comes across - as recently as on Kylie's Netflix documentary - as quite a bitter character. Slow is one song that I will just never connect with in the same way as the majority of other fans (or even casuals). I appreciate Slow for its boldness, and of course the music video and live performances always amp up the sex factor (more on that later though with a different song) but live performances are, again, probably where my problems lie and make me tire of the song. It's a bit like The Loco-Motion in that it's a song Kylie always tries to reinvent when performing live, switching the style up and freshening it up, but for me it's one moment of a Kylie concert I genuinely wouldn't mind missing, going for a toilet break or zoning out completely. And that's not say it's not a good song, because I have fond memories from when I was younger first discovering it among the Ultimate Kylie catalogue and more. As for the other singles in this section, I've already spoken at length about the Tension era so I'll keep my thoughts on Tension as brief as possible. Following Padam Padam, could Kylie make it two bangers in a row? I'd say she succeeded on that front. Initially my reaction to the song was a bit cold (and it was with Padam Padam, too, truth be told), but over time I've warmed to it. It's a very forward-thinking song and the production is great. A banger with quite relaxed and slick vocals. Despite me not having been in a club for a long time now, I can imagine this would go off. And with one experimental song comes another; Did It Again taken from Impossible Princess stays right on trend with the experimentation and more moody Kylie side that came with that era. Not only is the music video for Did It Again one of Kylie's best and most interesting visually, the song has a certain charm to it with Kylie's vocals here having an attitude to them (something we don't get to hear often at all). Originally titled Clever Girl (Did It Again), the song ended up taking on a new meaning when it was written as a form of self-reflection following tabloids referring to Kylie as 'Kylie Thinogue' claiming she had anorexia. This song is another great example of Impossible Princess' late-in-the-day appreciation continuing to emerge even now being thoroughly deserved. And then finally in this section we have What Kind of Fool (Heard All That Before). The lead single from Greatest Hits (1992) and the final original song to be released under PWL, this feels like much more of a celebration (pardon the pun)... than Celebration. A great addition to Kylie's discography, the vocals and the productions just exude a feeling of celebrating all that she'd achieved up to this point, while lyrically being quite distant from that. It's a shame that Kylie herself isn't a fan of the song though, despite it being ranked among some of the best PWL songs and even appearing in lists of top 40 Kylie singles (albeit I imagine there'd be quite a change now for some with the extensive list on offer). Care-free, bubbly, joyous Kylie makes for some of her most aurally pleasing music though, for sure.

If You Were With Me Now is one of those singles that I never really pay much attention to unless I'm going back to Let's Get to It for a full listen through. That's changed now even just from compiling this and I've found myself enjoying it a lot. It's a great collaboration, and one where Kylie and the other artist just sound like they were made to be on a song together. Kylie's first hit as a co-writer, it's a beautiful ballad and really stands out on her fourth album. I've always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Where the Wild Roses Grow. When I was younger, moody and edgy Kylie just wasn't for me compared to pop bangers like Spinning Around and co, but maturing is realising that this is actually one of her strongest collaborations. It was lovely to see that Nick Cave had nothing but lovely things to say about Kylie too while watching her Netflix documentary. Where the Wild Roses Grow tells a beautiful - yet tragic - story. So much so that it appears on several Greatest Hits collections by Kylie now, too. The euphoric sound of Higher and the similarities in style to some of the songs from the Aphrodite era (no surprise since it was initially conceived for the album) are just two of the reasons why I love it so much. It's always been one of my favourite Kylie collaborations, and probably always will be. Taio Cruz is a name very much of his time, but Kylie manages to make the song sound timeless and it can certainly hold up against some of her pop-bop solo singles. Right Here, Right Now is an absolute gem too. As I've already mentioned, when Kylie collaborates with the right people she really can come up with pure magic. And this is a fine example. Something that really wouldn't sound out of place on Kiss Me Once - and perhaps something that would improve some of the negative opinions of that album too - Kylie's vocal delivery is so dreamy. So despite some criticism for it being basic from review circles, I'd say it's the opposite. Finally in this section, Hold On to Now is definitely one of my favourites from Tension (besides the singles yet to come in the countdown). One of the first songs to be recorded for Tension as well as one of Kylie herself's favourites, I've not spent too much time with it because the Tension and Tension II eras have been neglected for a while (rectification incoming) but certainly hearing and seeing it performed on the Tension tour via Netflix has reignited my love for it. Hearing Kylie speak about what the song means to her, too, and how important the lyrics are about holding on to now and living in the moment make it all the more powerful.
